I still can’t comprehend Docherty pulling out of a chance to hit Daicos.
Disgusting.
I’m not sure why it’s hard to believe. Docherty pulled out of about 2 or 3 other contests last night. He basically gifted Schultz a goal in the 3rd not willing to go back and contest and even had the gall to give Ollie a mouth full. He has become an embarrassment. As has McGovern and Williams. All three should be dropped but alas we have no one to replace them.

He makes a very good point.

It’s not Cripps fault but he is too focussed on carrying tge team on his back…

What we need from a captain (and our on field leaders) is to show on field leadership in terms of overall game plan - extension of tge coaches. Look at filth leadership group …it’s like chalk and cheese.

When things dont go well Cripps just tries harder and harder which is very honourable but we are currently lacking on field direction/plan/strategies ex etc.

Again it’s not his fault but we’ve created this situation as a club because he is so freakin good so he just keeps digging to turn our fate around

He’s a super tough human but we will break him…if tge club won’t intervene and spread tge on field duties

Weiters as captain would be a terrific move. I think Jsos is another good option.
We really lack a Hodge IMO, in terms of leadership

I'll just add there was a time when I thought Doc was this. But the Doc out there doesn't seem like the same Doc we remember. I wonder if the toll of everything has affected more than just his physical game.

I would have kept Kennedy in an ideal world and played him largely as a forward who got some rotations in the middle. But the reports were he wanted more midfield time at Carlton. We traded him for a 2nd round pick we used to fill an area of need in a developing KPD. We needed to balance up our midfield so I didn't mind the trade because I wouldn't have wanted him getting more midfield time.

Owies would be ahead of Evans because Evans was a SSP selection. He's literally the 45th man on the list. Should be no where near this team.
Kennedy was still contracted, with his character he would've played 2's, mid/forwardin the 1's when required. Right now this season he'd have probably played all 4 games and largely in the mid anyway.

Blues in front early. Effort there. Curnow looks ok. Just didn’t take chances. Pies start getting space and hitting targets. Daicoses running rampant. TDK a force of nature. Blues fans start worrying about umpires. Pendlebury shows poise immediately after Cripps/Acres/Walsh clanger. McGovern limps off. Mihocek or Elliott kicks four. Magpie army going nuts. Blues left to rue missed opportunities. Voss happy with the effort.

Let's review the Pies game summary I wrote a week ago to see just how predictible we are:
  • Blues in front early. ✅ Correct
  • Effort there. ✅ Early, correct. Team tried something with run from the back.
  • Curnow looks ok. ✅ Commentators thought he had a mismatch.
  • Just didn’t take chances. ✅ 5 behinds first quarter, set shot misses. Smothered kicks, etc.
  • Pies start getting space and hitting targets. ✅ Was always going to happen...
  • Daicoses running rampant.✅ 31 and 27 touches, yessir.
  • TDK a force of nature. 🪙 (Partial, coin toss) 19 touches, 6 clearance, 30+ hitouts. But was well blunted by Cameron.
  • Blues fans start worrying about umpires. ✅ Every week, just give it up, folks. It's our team, not the umps.
  • Pendlebury shows poise immediately after Cripps/Acres/Walsh clanger. ✅ I'm giving myself this one in the aggregate. Ancient Pendles and Sidey have season-best games, gaining more metres and higher DE than Acres and Cripps. Kudos to Walsh who was better.
  • McGovern limps off. :crossmark: I guessed wrong. Zilliams limping late, and McGovern lookalike Cowan was the one subbed early.
  • Mihocek or Elliott kicks four. :crossmark: Very low scoring. It was Schultz we made look like a superstar.
  • Magpie army going nuts. ✅ Would be fun going to the footy with near certainty you'll be singing the song.
  • Blues left to rue missed opportunities. 🪙 (Partial, coin toss) Yes, true, but those missed opportunities weren't obvious goals we missed, etc. It's every opportunity in every possession that we miss.
  • Voss happy with the effort. :crossmark: So I guess it was actually worse than forecast, because not even Voss could put lipstick on that pig and call it pretty.

Bit off topic but I'm glad someone else can see it.

Thought this guy was a spud myself but IMO he's become one of the better rucks in the league over the last five years.

Honestly didn't think he had it in him.

He's a more mature body than DK too so it's not a big surprise that he may have taken home the cake and it's hardly the reason Carlton lost.
Like a lot of Collingwood players, not a star but plays his role well and has been trained to that role consistently. He does the basics of a ruckman well. Funny why Collingwood have done so well with the aging list and sprinkling of A grade talent they have is just the consistency of doing the basics skill wise and tactic wise well.

Daicos was kept in check by Hewett mainly, team effort though.
Not an indicator of Doch’s game at all.
Josh Daicos - the wing. Doch and Acres switched up at times but our wings actually outplayed there's by any measure. Given both had been out of form that was important for us not getting whalloped
Again the stats don’t matter!!!
He was terrible, and has been terrible all season.

I love the guy, and everything he represents, but he’s not good enough and despite the fact he really cares and really tries he needs to be dropped and hope that he can play a meaningful role as a mentor for the younger players in the twos.

But stats do matter, at least in what they represent.

As much as almost anyone on the ground Docherty was in the right positions and moving the ball forward to our advantage.

He's not the tough physical player he was, and still doesn't look fully confident. But his impact on the game was third highest by AFL rankings, and describing that as 'terrible' is just wrong.

AFL rankings do overrated meters gained and effective disposal imo... But you know what, for Carlton right now those are our biggest problems and Docherty did that well in hard conditions (windy and raining).

He also suffered as all our runners did, from Collingwood's pressure. I thought they did an excellent job of hitting our outside runners quickly. They knew where we like to go to and targetted those spots. Docherty had a lot less time and space and was ok.

Look, I don't think we will watch a highlight reel in 30 years time and fondly remember this game from Docherty alongside Kouta's last quarter in the 99 prelim.

But to describe him as terrible is just feelings taking over

He had 27 touches playing off the wing @ 63% efficiency in tough conditions, gained 670+ meters (highest on the ground) and was the third highest ranked player on the ground overall, so yeah, he had a good game.

If we're judging players like this than that might explain our 0-4 predicament?

Doc’s disposal efficiency and meters gained are so high because he blind bombs the ball with the majority of his kicks.

If Cripps was a great captain, he wouldnt have played because he was so sore he couldnt move.

Cripps at 50% better than anything else. Who would’ve covered him Campo? Him showing grit under adversity is something players like Williams and Gov could learn from as well as fresh kids realising it’s a tough game and you’re rarely 100% fit and you have to do what you have to do at times.

Anyone who could run and not let Pendlebury do as he wanted?
A 50% Cripps is just letting the team down, making everyone else work harder because he cant impact the contest and cant put any pressure on his direct opponent.

Tigers gave the blue print against us at half time, and each team has followed suit.

Play a decoy on Weitering to take him out of the play.
This is the most concerning thing, just how easy we are to stop and we have no answer to counter.. Voss only response is to win more contests.. Vossy this aint the problem, wake up and find an answer.
