What the heck? Firearms at the MCG

Perhaps if these security guards engaged their racism.
I think you'll find some people have prejudices against certain groups and not others, ergo, they are racist. Just so you are aware, there are many different races. You don't have to practice discrimination against all groups to be racist.

That said, I don't think all security guards are racist or practicing some kind of bias, and I have had many good experiences at the G. But I have also had more than a couple of uncomfortable experiences there too, and faced very heavy handed security. FWIW I have also witnessed racist remarks made inside the MCC from supporters, but never in members areas I'd otherwise frequent.

Can see it going the way of the US sports where it's like airport security. Take shoes off, belt off, empty pockets, put it through metal detectors

Not many places are still like that. A few, but most let you walk through the scanners with your phone and keys in your pocket. It's actually virtually the same system as they have at the G over there these days.

Really the more you think about it the more you realise what absolute flogs these two are.

It's one thing to bring a gun to a kickboxing match where there are plenty of "colourful characters" but to bring guns to the footy which is a family friendly event is just sickening. Idiots.

More and more of these types of self entitled hoodlums going around Melbourne these days unfortunately. Victoria literally is a gangsters paradise these days 😔

The Jacinta quotes are a laugh. If they weren't out on bail it wouldn't have happened.

Also if they can't keep guns out how do the AFL think they can ban these blokes? 😂

Yeah that sounds a bit excessive for sure. My son did security there for a couple of years not long ago. Christ did he have some stories....the abuse and intimidation these guys and girls get is next level that no-one should have to go through. He would say regularly he was spat at, abused and goaded into some physical altercation.
The MCC has gotten a bit weird. My wife was shoved after a game by two very obviously substance affected girls and a bunch of absolute bellends tried picking a fight with some friends and me over a table in the Callinan Bar.

Meanwhile the Anzac Day ball a few years was a total coke fest and there was a fat guy clearly there by himself in the middle of the dance floor drenched in sweat.

A far cry from the old days.

On the security breach, the MCG now has big walk-through scanners instead of the guards using the wands. From experience these things seem to be overly sensitive and stuff like car keys or jewellry can set it off. This leads to enough false positives that the actual human security falls into a routine of just asking people if they have something in their pocket, looking at an irrelevant item, and waving them through to keep the line from getting backed up.

Doesn't help that a lot of the security guards are very much not physically imposing and surely that has to disincetivize them from confronting yobbos.

The names say it all really..

I’m not sure of the current security checks around the country but at Optus Stadium I doubt you’d have trouble getting in with a gun, if you were determined to do so.

Simply wait until someone else is being ‘randomly checked’ and walk straight in without a bag. Scary really.

I suggest though those days will be numbered and security around the country is about to get ramped up…for a bit anyway.

Perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise that these idiots brought their guns along to the footy and highlighted the ease in which it can be done.

If you had a gun and wanted to kill people at the footy you could do so before even entering the stadium really.
From the article link I posted

Sources suggest the group of four or five men created an orchestrated distraction at security to gain entry to the MCG.

Their purpose?

To retain guns that were used for personal protection rather than an attempt to create havoc or even a terrorist event.

The Herald Sun understands a group of four or five men who had bought tickets to the Carlton-Collingwood clash arrived well after the start of the 7.30pm clash at around 8pm.

Two of those men were allegedly carrying multiple weapons, with the Evolv Express security system flagging them for secondary screening.

Yeah I think the biggest changes will be to every other ground in Australia, rather than the mcg.

I don't really see the difference personally between being near them at footy, in the bourke street mall, on the train, in the queue at McDonalds. Those other places don't have security. Yet people lose their minds they were at the footy with guns. What a disgrace it is all the MCG's fault I tell ya. The only result is the average punter is going to need to bend over for a cavity search to enter the G from now on.
