Fancy being afraid of WC pressure. How far have we dropped. This will be interesting. If Eagles don't apply any pressure we will thrash them. Too much talent, experience and we love open space
If the Eagles come out like they did against Lions then it could be very different
If Moir requested a trade after the last 2 years I wouldn't bat an eyelid. And not because Voss is a clown. This line is why I've suggested a couple of times now that we shouldn't be surprised to see a few trade requests at the end of the year. It's the same thing Voss did back at the Lions resulting in purging kids every year, and ultimately the go home 5. We've been fortunate we're a big club in Melbourne so you don't normally get kids asking to leave, but I think we could be about to.
Watching vets time after time put up poor efforts get selected and backed to the hilt, while the kids and inexperienced guys get 1 game, maybe 1.5 qtrs as sub, and get immediately dropped. I hate the practice of picking kids for 1 game, let alone as the sub and then dropped. If you're only going to pick them for 1 game, don't pick them. At worst they need 2. But no, Voss will repeatedly give them 1 game, and drop them while senior heads get another go round.
Don't be surprised a few, Moir for example, request a trade if Voss is still around. It's what happened in Brisbane and he's doing the same here.

His fitness base is miles off VFL standard let alone AFL
And if they are selected, they're not given a run at it. Not enough trainings of late to know and tbh I never really pay a heap of attention to that stuff while I'm there anyway.Genuine question as you’ve been to training - I think.
Who has taken Moir under their wing to help him?
Who is guiding him on expectation?
Yep. His form and fitness towards the backend of last year is better than what it is atm, which is concerning after an injury free preseason. Not enough trainings of late to know and tbh I never really pay a heap of attention to that stuff while I'm there anyway.
Watched him every game in the VFL the last year and a bit and through his 17s and 18s years though. That's just part of the parcel with him atm. Huge natural talent but a horrendous tank and terrible application most games.
Had a good patch of games back end of last year before he came into the AFL side late where he really dug in and showed some fight but for the most part he's always gotten by on being freakishly talented rather than fighting tooth and claw for an opportunity.
I still have some faith he'll come good around year 3-4 (mentioned this before we drafted him) but for now he's just a work in progress and imo shouldn't be near the AFL side. Full games in the VFL would do him way more for his development.
Like I said I was cognisant of not trying to put him up as the solution to all, just that I liked his approach. If he's not up to it then that's fine, but he certainly tries to be more creative than others which is what I was more commenting on and that style I want more of.Binns was a poor selection at that range, his kicking was never strong from his junior years, still now they are to non dangerous areas, struggles to compete in 50/50 situations
I think Lucas will, if not already surpass him
Yeah he was miles better end of last year. Early last year we played him off a wing just to get his fitness base up and I wouldn't be opposed to doing the same again this season. Looks miles off it atm.Yep. His form and fitness towards the backend of last year is better than what it is atm, which is concerning after an injury free preseason.

This is a big issue with me. Our leaders don’t help our draftees and if they do, not nearly enough. Not enough trainings of late to know and tbh I never really pay a heap of attention to that stuff while I'm there anyway.

Based on what? This is a big issue with me. Our leaders don’t help our draftees and if they do, not nearly enough.

Great to hear actually. I took this to list management thread, as I didn’t want to derail this one.I am not sure that's an issue Surrey. Cripps Docherty Weitering etc spend a lot of time with younger players. They have dinners, catch ups, extra training all the time. IMO our senior group and how they integrate and support younger players is very good and I have seen that first hand
Moir, as an example, is getting lots of support. He has actually improved. Issue is he's such a long way off it
My family hasn’t spoken to me for a month. If we loose I've instructed the fam not to say a single word to me on the drive home from Adelaide
Not to mention Cripps not 100% and could do with the rest for long term benefitsLord dropped but blokes like Haynes McGovern Motlop keep their spots
I don’t get it
This is because Voss is useless. He can't play more mid types because he has no structure. He won't push them forward at times. In a proper structure Walsh Cripps Lord Cerra Hewett can all go forward
Look at Hawks. Play more mids and teach them how to go forward at times. Day Worpel Newcombe Nash McKenzie Ward etc all go forward at times and rotate. Structure and game style
The mantra of plenty past successful coaches, when you bring in a kid, try to give them a block of games, but if they struggle, send them back to develop their deficiencies
We have done it with Cowan, Ollie, Binns, Lord, Lucas, Moir, etc
Some hit the ground running, others need a few stints
Exactly right. Any coach with a half a (coaching) brain would develop them to rotate that way
This is why I never buy into the rubbish that player X can only play one position.
They are not coached, drilled, developed or given opportunities to be part of a multi-layered structure
A win tomorrow is akin to the Jayne Mansfield poster covering the hole in the wall at Shawshank Prison. The cracks were gone a long time ago
You never know, McQualter et al may be ready to throw some pebbles right through that "wall"
100%
Go look at the better sides and how many "mids" they play.
Lions - Neale, McLuggage, Berry, Ashcroft, Dunkley all spend time HF or Wing
GCS - Touk Miller and Flanders and now playing a lot forward
Swans - Warner is now playing a lot forward to help rotations
Hawks - Day Newcombe Nash Worpel Ward McKenzie
All good sides do it because a good player can play nearly anywhere if the structure is right and the role is clear. But apparently we can't fit in more than 4 mids?
We could easily play Walsh on a Wing, Docherty at HB and even Cripps forward.
