Vossy said that we should look back and check because he doesn't think Motlop and Durdin have played together many times. Out of 45 and 49 goals respectively, they have played together 25 times, so it's still a reasonable sample size. The difference is they are now 21 and about to turn 23.

No I think Lewis Young played his best football in attack this year and relieving in the ruck.

Definitely need Young’s flexibility and big body up forward to replace McKay and Kemp.
To be honest I'm struggling to be convinced of our need for Young at all. I liked him when we first got him but admit to being a lot more conscious of his stuffups than his versatility.

Genuinely hoping he makes an idiot of me if he is called upon to cover Kemp.

He is cheap cover for 3 positions. That is his value.

Gotta be honest...

Just finished watching the replay and I reckon that might be the worst team I've seen in a long time—outside of the Suns/Giants in their early seasons or the * supplements fallout. Probably the worst since the Melbourne rabble from 15 years ago or some of our horror early-2000s sides. This includes our pitiful spoon seasons in '15 and '18.

I haven’t sat through a full Eagles game this year, but I’ve caught big chunks of most of them—and aside from that one game up in Brisbane (where the Lions basically stayed in second gear all day which they've done all year, and still smashed them in the second half), they’ve looked completely non-competitive. Like, not even trying to win, just going through the motions.

Only real takeaway from today for me was how different some of our blokes were being used—Walsh especially. There were some subtle changes that’ll be worth watching going forward against real competition.

But as a game of footy? Nah. Not much to learn from belting a team that’s this far off it.

They honestly look like they’re in year one (not year 3 or 4?) of a rebuild under McQualter. Yeah, injuries have hit them hard, but there’s way too many blokes giving absolutely nothing. It's disappointing, especially after last year where—even when they got smashed—they at least showed a bit of heart. They’ve gone backwards big time.

No idea how they think they’ll hold onto Harley Reid. Even he looked like he was mentally out of there. The only ones who seemed remotely switched on most of the day were the ex-Tigers—Graham and Baker.

Yes I agree with you there will be a lot of idiots when Lewis Young makes idiots of us all.

No SOS should stay in the backline. If Kemp is done for the year then we should move Gov forward. I’m not nearly as down on Haynes as other are so I think he can comfortably hold down a backline spot next to Jsos and Weitering. Up forward it’s Young, Charlie and Gov until Harry is back and then it’s Harry, Charlie and Gov. I don’t want Young or Gov anywhere near the back line on a permanent basis.
Yeah wouldn’t be opposed to trying Gov forward again myself but I just reckon they will want his kicking skills from the back half.

MSD might see us looking at a 3rd tall forward option now depending on severity of injury.

That’s the way I would go next week, needs to soak up Charlie Comben.

Challenge with a game like this is working out what's real and what's not.

Durdin has confidence in his shoulders. Attack on the footy and opponent is back to 2022 levels. Very promising game from him.

Good to see Gov attacking the footy hard. Needs to back it up but good signs.

Carroll's first 5 steps and kicking are as good as anyone else in the team. Reckon he's a lock from here.

Carroll good for Saad's game. Having two genuine rebound options makes it harder for the opposition to negate both.

Hewett has taken his game to another level, and would be leading Weitering in our B&F.

JSOS not far behind, and I for one never picked him as a KPD. He's put on a few kgs and looks genuine KPD size. Reading of the ball elite.

Been saying for a couple years and will continue, Cotrell is probably the best inside 50 kick in the team. Give him space and he lowers his eyes every time. Can struggle under pressure but he was late to the game and he's been improving steadily year on year.

White will get another game on the back of that performance, but reckon the last 22 spot is between him and Fogarty. At worst good depth.

None are stars, but Williams, Eli, Durdin and Motlop might be a workable small/mid forward mix. More than the sum of their parts.

Doc still looks physically cooked. Coaches won't drop him after that game but would rather he's in the 2s sooner rather than later. Could use his experience and guidance with the young kids coming through.

This won't be a well-liked comment but oh well.

One of our big issues this year is composure under pressure. Today there was very little pressure, so players didn't feel rushed and could lower the eyes.

When we play a team that brings serious heat, don't be too surprised or disappointed when the dumb dump kicks return.

I'll take and enjoy the win but at this stage I don't think it tells us much. West Coast were awful.
Reminiscent of our pre season intra club match sim & GWS practice game where we looked great vs absolutely minimal to zero pressure!

Still need a lot of improvement, but in those hot conditions I’ll take winning 17.19 to 6.14 every day of the week thanks. We doubled the I50’s stat with 73 to 35 and should’ve kicked a bigger score.

Great to see George in great form, and others like Walsh, Durdin, JSOS, Cerra playing good games.

I was rough on him the last couple of weeks but Ollie played well today. Meaning he did not give away any points. Walsh stepped up and Cripps was our captain again. Good all around game, versus a poor opponent. :(

He’s been good this year, I think we need him as a tall target and as a minimum, to get the ball to the ground which I think he can do against north. For next week; H and Kemp for Young and Elijah should work for us.

Gov and Jsos should just be left in the backline to try an get that group zinging together

People are entitled to feel very upset about how the season has started. We are ten years into a rebuild that has delivered very little outside of a few months of good football. I think it’s reasonable everyone is questioning where we are heading. We lost to a Richmond team that could be every bit as bad as the West Coast team we beat today. Let’s see how we go against North, Geelong, Adelaide and St Kilda over the next four weeks before we start crowing about how good we are.
Who’s done that ?

Great to get a win, but appears to have come at quite a cost. Kemp obviously will miss the entire year, I'm not sure we will see Harry again for several weeks and unsure about Lord. Eagles provided next to no pressure and to be honest, I'm not convinced that if North turn up on Friday that we are anywhere near it yet. Happy to be proven wrong but the weight of evidence tells me we are bottom 4-6 team this year and i'm not getting excited about anything because they were a rabble and played like it was a practice match.

That’s my fear. No pressure and we can look good. Average players can look good

WCE game late last year is an example

Take the win but it’s next 3 weeks that will tell us where we really stand

Play that way against a Crows or Cats then I will be convinced we can still be a good side

Saad rebounds off HB with some speedy runs and quick handball one twos….👌👌

Carroll rebounds off HB with quick thinking and precision kicking. 👌👌

Carroll is also good defensively.

Only his first game but he’s shown plenty so far. Pity his debut was delayed due to injury last year.
