Brisbane don't use a tagger. They will back their midfield in, and rightly so. If Nick doesn't get a tag, we'll always be in the game. I'm fairly confident about this game.
He ripped them apart in round 23 last year

Brisbane's forward line is a slight weakness if you defend the field well and force them into long entries. Without Daniher they lack presence in marking contests, and feel our defence would quite easily cover them.

Very strong running team and midfield, so not exactly easy to do.

You should be confident anyway

We've had the wood on them since the Grand Final. That's despite them being in better form than they are currently and that's with Daniher dominating each time we've played them

I'm not saying it's a guaranteed win, but we definitely have genuine reason to be confident

The fact that they don't seem to normally tag Nick is just a bonus

So if it's an unchanged, team (which is a big if) then it would be something like ...

From the Round 4 Gabba game
Out:
Schultz, JDG, Mitchell, Cox, Macrae, Noble, McInnes
In: Sidebottom, McStay, Membrey, Perryman (if fit), Sullivan, Allan, Long

Crisp was the sub that game

From the Round 23 MCG game
Out:
Parker, Bytel, Noble, Schultz, Cox
In: Membrey, Perryman, Sullivan, Allan ... someone else

Sydney kept Brisbane to 86 points and Geelong kept them to 70 points. Both teams lead for a big chunk of the game before losing.
If our backs can continue their good form and keep them to a low score I am confident we can kick a big enough score against them to get a win up there.

That should hopefully limit his ability to intercept.

What's your reason for swapping Sulli and Ed?

I'm with you manicpie, we're a real chance. Starcevich, McCarthy and Daniher are big outs from the Lion's side that we played last year up there.

Will be interesting to see who they play on Bobby. Starcevich generally gets the job. Wilmott has got the speed, not sure he's got the smarts, Zorko has the smarts, not sure he's got the speed. I assume that Lester will play on one of the MMM. Fletcher has been in great form, if he goes to Bobby, do we play Bobby deep?

The loss of Daniher is a big one for me, he has such a good record against us and always seemed to give them a lift. Without him, we may have an advantage. Cox generally plays well against McInerney. Given the short turnaround and playing in the heat on Saturday, we may be able to take advantage of a weakened McInerney in the ruck. I like the idea of Cox v McInerney, Cameron v Day matchup. Frampton seems a natural fit to cover Day when he's playing forward, so I guess he holds his spot.

Looks like it'll be a fast track Thursday evening, are we too tall if Cox comes in for one of our runners?

I personally don't think cox is in the mix. We'll be wanting the extra runner

hipwood hasn't really troubled us much from my recollection over the years ..rayner ,Bailey and Cameron are the dangermen ..whoever gets Rayner has a tough night in front of them ..

Bruz I reckon.

MccLuggage is another one we need to watch. In ripping form for them.

I feel like we've been having the same conversation on this board for the past 3 weeks. Oh wait, we have.
I think people get caught up with his height and believe he's a good target up forward but in reality, he provides none and is just a tall bloke in the goal square. We are much better served with Membrey because he provides a down the line option and creates space. Cox is still a good ruckman and will get his chances when we require a ruckman

The moment this season when it was clear we need to persist with Membrey over Cox (aside from the 4 goals against Port) came in the Carlton game in my opinion.

Daicos kicked to open space, Membrey got space on his opponent, gathered the ball from his feet, wheeled around and kicked a goal. All while in the wet. Cox just can't do that.

Cox's advantage was being that link up player down the line though Membrey played that role so well against Sydney.

It’s primarily a crescendo of anxiety… I usually commence the week confident which dissipates by match day. I just tend to be posting that late tip this year which I haven’t previously. This week is entirely different because Brisbane are ****ing good and for some weird reason somewhat underrated at the same time.

You did this in our premiership year Sco

Resist the crescendo

Why do we play Brisbane away on easter thursday every freaking year?

Happy to play Brisbane away but not on easter thursday

What is easter thursday?

No more opening round away crap

No more easter thursday away crap

Play North Melbourne on Good Friday and help raise millions of dollars for The Royal Children's Hospital
I don't see what's wrong with playing Lions on a Thursday before Easter? It's during the school holidays & seems a logical time to play a match in Qld.

North & Blues have the Good Friday match. We don't need to be a part of every marquee match.
