The consequences of NIL and thinking this shit is the NFL where you can just holdout for more money.
Yep. Surprised it doesn't happen more often. It's why some schools are hiring a GM.

It's too late to cap NIL money because of all the loopholes with 2nd and 3rd party deals.

But it kinda is a semi pro NFL farm league now where some players treat every year like a 1 year deal with the unlimited portal and not having to sit out anymore. It shows the players who are there just for the money and that's a huge red flag

Defo suicide. Killed someone in a car accident earlier in the year and had charges filed against him yesterday. The timing is too much of a coincidence to be anything else.

Its been confirmed as suicide. Took the easy way out.

I find it disgusting that some reporters were saying "NFL Draft prospect passed away" like he didnt have so many red flags that he was untouchable. Im also unconfutable with it framed as a mental health issue by people saying you can get help and talk about it to friends/specialists.

I wonder whether whoever put the bond up gets their money back?
every cent should go to the victim's family since there wont be a court case anymore.

but it prob gets refunded.

Josh Pate reported over the weekend that multiple Playoff teams had players trying to get more NIL money or they might sit out.

It had been whispered at the time, and not surprising given most of the NIL agents wouldnt get a pro sports agent license on moral/character concerns.

They need to get accredited agents and allow only them to negotiate with schools. I highly doubt Nico would be in this situation with the right representation.
Its one of the many issues with how fast it was implemented and the lack of thinking about it.

Im not sure if they can get accredited agents without losing the amateur status. NIL is just a disaster that gets worse and worse. cant close pandoras box now.

Colorado retiring #1 [Sanders] and #2 [Hunter] is so on brand its not even funny.

So kids if you want to get a number retired go to Colorado, barely go .500 over 2 years, lose your only bowl game, make no championship games, never rank higher then 16 in the AP poll and you too can have a number retired.

It's becoming the micro transaction world, so why not an extra tier to your subscription...

College football is broken. Hard to believe it's a worse system then being paid under the table

The worst thing about this unaccredited representation in college is who really is the rep working for?

At least in professional sport agents fees are disclosed and negotiable.

What controls old Uncle Elroy negotiating a nice new car and condo for himself as he steers his nephew to the "right" school?

themselves but there are "groups" but still the same kind of thing. Its why its such a mess. There are some good ones, but far too many bad ones who dont care about the kid and just want their cut.

It also leads to the grey area where teams cant ask players to enter the portal so they can get them, but get in the ear of the "agent" to push the player into the portal. Its clear that is what happens with most if not all players who enter the portal with a "do not contact" tag.

As for the Uncle Elroy scenario that was more the pre NIL system where boosters got in the ear of the family and had them push the kid to that school. the NIL system is even more shameless. which is you remember the old days is f**king insane

if Iamaleava does end up at UCLA it will surprise me. I didnt think he would go to the Big10 given how cold he looked in the playoffs Vs Ohio St and couldnt do anything in that game. Only to play a mid November game @ Ohio St again. October @ Michigan St and Indiana might also be too cold for him

He can't go to an SEC school or he will have to sit a year. The only ACC schools worth a damn for a top player are Miami and Clemson and they don't need him (although if Clemson went for him he would be an upgrade on Klubik, IMO). I doubt any Big 12 schools can afford him or would be willing to pay him what he wants nor is it really any different from the ACC in that there isn't really a good school to go to. That basically leaves the Big 10 as his only option.

His real problem is that it is looking like he will have to take a pay cut wherever he goes.
