Autopsy North lose to Carlton.

Hard disagree.
When the game was still in the balance they had a big impact.
It’s not even a one eyed view. It’s like the umps are told to make sure Carlton don’t lose this game.
I said those exact words in the third quarter after some of those decisions, but by then we'd screwed up enough to ensure it didn't matter anyway.

Hello North Fans, I’m not here to troll and if this isn’t an appropriate question just tell me to F OFF.

Was just wondering to myself and couldn’t pin point when and why it happened but I just can’t seem to understand when and how North Melbourne lost their shinboner spirit.

I hope you guys get to see some success soon I understand how hard it is to follow a struggling club and I think no fan deserves to be put through the pain of what’s happening at your club atm.

to rub salt in the wounds, we are now 1-7 on good friday with an average loosing margin of 60 points. can’t see the afl giving us this time slot for much longer.
Yeah, but Collingwood and Essendon aren't judged on that criteria, so I'm not sure why we should be (then again, it's us). Marvel still fills up, and we raise a lot of cash for RCH. Both Coll and Ess have gone through bad patches on 'their' day.

Good observation. We really do seem to hesitate for that split second too long and by then the ball is lost or again in dispute.
Thats it, right? Hesitate and die in modern afl. Its Hard to coach it back. But, they have to.
Canning the whole team, dropping lots wont change it.
But, that said, there has to be accountability for the crew that stuff it up every week. We know who they are. So do their team mates. We have tolerated mediocrity from senior players for 10 years.

💯. Feel like it’s ours now.
Outside of actually playing well, we could not do it any better. And it probably tugs at the heart strings of more Australians, arguably, than Anzac does now.
Cancer impacts everyone. The Anzac stuff (seriously no disrespect here, just being real) is so far away from all those under 30 footy go-ers now.
Anyway, I think we do it well.
I may have written this poorly? Drunk. No disrespect.

We have so many brain-dead footballers and so many ineffective 6/10 wing/HBF players.
My pet hate, this one.

Tucker, Stephens, Daniel, Fisher, all brought in from other clubs and not a defender's bone between them.

Then throw in the desire to put the O'Sullivans and McKerchers of this world off half-back, too. Such talented kids that they've probably never had to defend while coming through the pathways, but instead of playing to their strengths, we think "oh well it worked for Daicos and Sheezel, it'll surely work for everyone". Instead of, you know, playing to their strengths.

Surely Jackson Archer isn't the only small defender on the list who can actually defend?

Anyone else say/do anything at the Race?
Bloke next to me gave them a spray the supporters were clearly unhappy but there were also kids there who wanted to high five the players, only one player did that and he looked surprised to see the old crew frowning at him. There were also two cops leaning against the fence above the race taking up a lot of room, I asked them to move so the kids who actually paid money to get a seat could get close to the players, the cops told me their orders weee to be stationed there and they couldn’t move 🙄

When we pushed Brent Harvey out of the club.

Well, dysfunctional BigFooty family — thanks for getting me through after today’s devastating result.

I’ve, sort of, enjoyed reading all the posts, albeit depressing! It’s honestly the only footy talk I’m up for right now — our own, raw & honest. Can’t quite handle the outside noise just yet, lol.

I’ll enjoy watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this week.

Still keeping the faith — why, I don’t know! I really don’t! Here’s hoping for a response next week lol! Couldn’t resist!

I've been in denial for so long. I knew we probably wouldn't crack the top 8 with this list but for the past while I've been thinking any game / season now are younger players would start turning it on and the older blokes would get a bit of belief and pull up their socks to avoid embarrassment.

It's not going to happen. Having 12 - 15 spuds out on the park each week means we are going to get the same result every time. Things aren't about to 'click', this is it. We are looking at our best.

Will JMac and Simpkin improve their DE? Will Stephens and Tucker get any faster? Will Logue, Corr and Comben form a defensive spine? Will Darling turn back the clock while Fisher and one of CCJ/Pink/Teakle become regular starters? Have we seen the best of Scott, Phillips and Ford?

Are we going to win 10 -12 games a year with Hardeman, Dawson, George, Bergman and Whitlock out on the park? Speculative I know but that feels an eternity away.

It's not just the defeat either. We've had a million of them and the shame will pass. It's the fact that we're going nowhere and the players that will stand up and fight against the tide can be counted on one hand. It's not enough, nowhere near enough and it is not physically possible for so few players to change the course we are on.

It's way past my bedtime but yes, agree, keeping the faith, by the thinnest of threads...

I would've taken an 'honourable' 3 goal loss or whatever. Like the Dogs game.

Can't even get that. What's the point of Parker, Daniel and Darling if the result is the same?
Luke Parker hasn’t spent enough time with the playing group yet to have any real influence on leadership and team direction etc but I still think he is a good pick up and will be a very good influence on the younger players. As for Caleb he needs time to gel with new team. As for Darling, I was not thrilled about him in the first instance.

Some would say it died whenever training standards dipped under Scott. An ex-champ of your club Dal Santo observed this disparity at North compared to the standards at St Kilda, so it's been happening for a while. Others would say it died in 2002. Undeniably, the end of 2016 set in motion a domino effect of events up to now, with a healthy dose of misfortune sprinkled in. For an itemised list:

2002: Carey does Carey things

2011-2015: Absolutely **** all draft hits, preventing us from establishing a good senior core in the 2020s

Circa 2013/14: Training standards lower than other clubs

2016: Karmic retribution invited with delistings of club champs rather than the traditional retirement campaigns

2017-2019: Fill holes with contracts for average players/shithouse players, causing us to sit in no-man's land, not rebuilding, not contending. Majak stuff happens in this timespan too

2019: Brad Scott sacked, Rhyce Shaw comes in, gets us playing reasonably good footy

2020: COVID, hub, Shaw mental health crisis

End of 2020: Panic after COVID fiasco and cut too deeply again

2021: Bring in a stack of absolute frauds to fill holes left by delistings

2021: Fail to do due diligence with hiring of Noble

2021/2022: Noble loses players, full staffing rebuild launched

2020/2021/2022: Club execs more or less impotent, CEO wasn't even living in Melb, club operations more or less run as a free-for-all

2022: JHF stirs up trouble within playing group (allegedly)

2022: Clarko hired and then promptly accused of racism; in the meantime, Tarryn Thomas keeps club handlers busy running after him cleaning up his messes

2023: Clarko suffers mini breakdown due to scandal. Dodgy contracts offered to oppo fringe players

2024: Clarko returns to the job and oversees a regression from 2023. Tarryn shows himself out of the club. Dodgy contracts offered to oppo fringe players

2025: And now here we are; for once with no off-field turmoil, but apparently a permanently crippled, demonically infected club soul. Easy to see how a club could lose its way in amongst all of that, but it would be a sad way to go out
