Im talking about individual performances of said 18-21 group at afl level, as a basis of quality. Jack Williams was taken at pick 57 yet had been one of the better KPF’s 21 or younger this year. Surely you would agree that is a better indicator of quality than where he was drafted. Tyrell Dewar went undrafted and had 20 disposals and 2 goals vs the reigning premiers. Seth Campbell another fantastic example with how well he’s doing this season. I place more value in young players proving they can perform to a very good level than where they were drafted.

You are cherry picking 1 - 2 examples of players that have or are being played this year and yes they have been fine but hardly dominating and could just be average players BUT there is a reason the quality of kids go higher in the draft and the talent level is higher.

Richmonds Dynasty had so many later picks and rookie picks but the players that were the cream that delivered the flags were Dusty #3 Cotchin #2 Rance #18 Jack #13 Edwards #16 Lynch #11 Prestia #6 Rioli #15 Vlastuin #12

Gawn always destroys us. He's almost 10 cm taller than Nank and as good as Nank has been this year, Gawn is the best ruck I have seen for many a year. He'll give your mids first chance at clearance and that will be very hard for our backs. I'm hoping for a good game though. Good luck to both teams on such an important evening.

So they should. We are 1 year into a rebuild and North in particular are in year 5 or even more while West Coast is in year 3 at least. Hardly a fair comparison.
Having said that guys like Lalor and Trainor have shown more in 5/6 games than any of North's and West coast's picks did at the same stage bar Reid (obviously) but he's no guarantee of staying.

Everyone always talks about west coast not trading out players to start our rebuild sooner. Who were we meant to trade out? Us contending overlaps with us collapsing and becoming absolutely god awful. There was only ever a few options I would think. Those being Gaff, Darling and Maybe McGovern. Everyone else retired due to injury or stayed because they had no trade value. Have Richmond passed us? It's far too early to tell. Rebuilds are up and down. We won 5 games last year and now it looks like we wont win one. We won't know the answer for a few years.

The eldest of those players is Lynch at 32, Broad, Vlastuin and MacIntosh at 31. We are not falling off a cliff age wise. Lynch is building after 2 years out but tenuous due to late injury history, MacIntosh is borderline best 23. All sides have this sort of profile. plenty older.

We have a developing core of young players who are getting games every week and working towards that 50+ game mark. This is the reason why we are having a better season than last year, apart from injury, because those players are impacting games.

The young players who will replace the older players in two years time are pretty much all highish draft pics, which give them a better chance of success. Lalor and Trainor have shown they will be around for a long time. Faull and Armstrong impressive as key forwards. A couple of others yet to get their chance.

Of course that is the difference, which is why writing us off preseason as never going to win a game was always nonsense. People forget how badly we were hit with injury last year, and if those injuries recur this year, we would likewise fall off a cliff, but so far so good,

But Miller, Ralphsmith, Campbell, Mansell, Ross, Rioli Jnr, Dow, Trezise, Green and a few others are all on the improve, which is what you need to maintain any sort of improvement. The new kids are just bonus's, but have added real quality as well, as they should at their draft picks.

I feel whilst Richmond have some great kids that are performing well, they are lucky to still have some solid experienced players to guide them in lynch, nank, short, Taranto, hopper, vlaustin, broad, mcintish and prestia when he comes back.
The same couldn’t be said last year when most their list was either injured or had players already checking out or playing for their trade value.

That’s something my club and to a lesser extent wc have really struggled with over the last few years

The poster says we need to focus our drafting on the backline, in the most non-aggressive fashion (imaginable) I literally say, we have spent X amount on drafting defenders already (they are all injured). I don't expect anyone to know who they are, but... thems the facts. You can arbitrarily attack the NMFC for any reason you like (there are countless) but using high draft picks (focusing) on defenders is not one of them.
