The St Kilda offer is a no brainer from a financial perspective. I am sure he can grow to love the place that is paying him 2X more than any other player there fairly quickly - until it all goes pear shaped - which it will. Even Carlton's offer is a stretch in my books.

All the best to the kid- he has won a lottery and it is all up to him - but having to perform to the level of his pay week in week out- will take its toll irrespective.

For St Kilda this is a marketing exercise and a get good playa exercise - for Carlton it is a suck eggs situation unless TDK does the smart thing and stays - which then makes St Kilda look stoopid because they got knocked back instead of stoopid for making the offer and player accepting. Either way they are stoopid - but SOS and Co are playing with AFL money anyway.

Seriously bizarro deluxo situation.

Yep - it's all well and good until he has a couple of quiet weeks and all of a sudden the media vultures start circling with their nasty buzzwords - "overpaid"..."underperforming"..."mercenary"...."ripped off"...."lazy"...."mistake"...."failure"...."just not good enough"....

He needs to have a serious think about whether he wants to be branded the highest paid player in the comp, and be held to the standard that comes with that.

We can match all that at least

We've set our price, we aren't changing it. It would make him the highest paid player at the club, but it is $600k a season less than St Kilda's offer. End of the day, loyalty can only stetch so far. His heart wants to stay, his head, his wallet, his management and just about anybody in the world is telling him he can't stay.

I would love for him to stay. It's hard for us normal folk to comprehend considering I'm pretty confident that most of us would be happy with the Carlton offer if one compares it to relative earnings outside of professional sport, which is fair, I can put my hand up and say I work a lot more hours for a lot less. But at the same time, I have (hopefully) more than 12 years in my career, and whilst sometimes I like to put a bit of mayo on how dangerous my mundane job is, I'm not really at a particular high risk of a career ending injury.

So there is a bit more to it than just eye boggling figures, not all AFL players, or should I say, not many AFL players have the.... world acumen... to put it nicely, to transition into another career post football.

Cheers for the update.

Having your ruck be your highest paid player is a problem though...

We might be better off letting him go tbh.

Can’t blame the guy for taking the deal with 600k extra a year. That’s life changing and at the end of the day it’s a job for him. If I was him I’d take it
How would you define life changing a extra 1-2 properties?

Earning $ 1.1 to $1.2 is still amazing $, not sure it changes a whole lot to be honest, very materialistic way of looking at it.

If TDK keeps improving he may be worth it as that point of difference. Already starting to make opposing rucks look silly with his clean possessions and superior agility.

He's also taking some fantastic marks, though I think he still has improvement for consistency.

No one is suggesting he isn't an important part of our list...

But paying him more than Cripps... I see that as problematic.

Depends how he uses said money. Not claiming to be a financial guru but it could end up being more than just 600k a year if he invested the money, which I’m sure his manager would be doing for him.

It is materialistic I agree, but I don’t think it is that deep to play for one club over the other

Fine, we'll just sign Luke Jackson if TDK leaves

Not sure how much my life would be different if I had $10M instead of $6M dollars?

The marginal benefit of each additional dollar actually decreases the higher things get.

How many ivory backscratchers can you buy until you are sick of it?
Keep in mind he'll be paying 45% tax on every extra $ he makes on the Saints offer. Once tax is factored in the difference will be more like 300k a year not 600k.

the extra 7k take home per week can easily be invested wisely. Every dollar counts when your capacity to earn such big coin is so finite.

Achieving the ultimate success is always a big consideration. As is how much you enjoy and love your current workplace. One or both of those factors have certainly swayed players in the past to stay at their then current club for less money.

But a couple considerations for TDK that could sway him to leave:
1. Current club form - starting the season 2-4 with your wins against the bottom two clubs doesn’t inspire you with confidence that the team is on the cusp of a premiership tilt. That said, if the club goes on to miraculously win a flag, that could also prompt him to be content with going and chasing the $$$ on the basis that he has achieved the ultimate success.
2. Uncertainty in management - if Voss’ job and/or the assistants are in jeopardy, then depending on his relationship with those individuals, that could sway him to leave

I cant tell you life would be 40% better which would he s-loads in my book. Thats setting you and your family up (and some) for life financially. Take into consideration tax to be paid, yeah I'd do it in a heartbeat.

He'll stay, his Mum has just been made Head Of Canteen on 600k per season.

Depends what life he wants after footy. If he is chasing a life of surfing and not much else, he needs to make hay will the sun shines. I dont know what qualifications Tom has but if he has none, he won't have much to fall back on. This is where back in the day, our "rich benefactors" used to ensure you were looked after post footy.

Nah, take a cheap ruck out of the MSD like Crossley, use the TDK compo and change to chase Butters.

2026:
JSOS, Weitering, Saad
Newman, Haynes, Carroll
Cerra, Cripps, Walsh
Crossley, Butters, Hewett
Hollands, Curnow, Motlop
Durdin, McKay, Williams
I/C: Cowan, Smith, Acres, Cottrell
Sub or form/injury cover from: Kemp, Lord, White, Moir, Hollands, Boyd etc.

There is ways to reduce that amount of income tax.
I'm no accountant, but self/partner's business employment angles and expense claims on property investments might even things out.

Crossley isn't playing ahead of Pitto. Seems to be the forgotten man in all these proposals

If any of us were in TDK's shoes we'd all take the money, even if we liked where we worked and the friends we worked with. its too big of a $ difference not to take it!
Anyone that says they wouldn't take the money and run is lying!

That kind of coin can set you up for life.
Yes, but we don’t work with the Almighty Carlton Football Club!!!

Excited He Is Risen GIF
