A top 6 compo pick + 2027 first would be a fair offer. Dont think Butters leaves this year though
He’s virtually their best player and still only 24yrs, I’ll say they’ll drive a high price for him, we’ll see…
The next 5 weeks will give us a strong indication to where we are possibly heading, I’m still pretty optimistic and positive that we can still contend for finals, still early days…

I said a while back I believe TDK will take the money and run and firmly believe he still will.

If the Saint have a war chest like has been mentioned, expect TDK to make approx 2.5 million in his first year. Then after that it will fluctuate but probably be around the 1.1 - 1.5 million a year range which is easy for clubs these days, especially with the increases coming.

It will be a very smart offer by the Saints and who wouldn’t like approx 2.5 million in the 1st year of a new job.

Hate the Club but if we had money to spare, I’d be expecting us to play our cards the same way.
I'm not so sure. His body language on the weekend didn't indicate a player that’s leaving or checked out.

I’m glad we’re sticking to our offer if he wants to go so be it but that’s poor list management by the aints, front or back ended.

Wilson/NWM/Owens/Phillpou/ are all going to put their hand out at some stage. One or two might be shaken loose.

I hope he stays. But that is not based on anything other than hope. I am also supportive of Carlton not caving in to pay an amount that will destabilise the team in the future. You would think, however, that the club will be working all angles to lessen the $ gap via other mechanisms - maybe extend the period of the proposed contract, utilise the business connections within the club to provide opportunities after football that would, in the long-term, be useful to TDK. We don't know but I'm sure that they would be working all angles. TDK is too good a footballer to let go without a struggle. We have to be careful. Whether he stays or goes only hindsight many years into the future will determine what was the correct way to go - he might have 10 years of elite football in him or injury or other issues may cruel him (never ever wish that). Hopefully it is many years of exceptional football at the CFC.

Ask Aaron Hammil how he feels - currently he's working as an Assistant Coach at Carlton - after having went for the money to Shit Kilda over 20 year ago - doesn't look like he was too looked after in life after football at Shit Kilda.
But he got to hang out with Shane Warne and Molly Meldrum.

Just can’t see TdK going to saints.

They are a complete joke and have nothing to offer except cash.

He stays for mine.

But if he were to venture further a field it would be on decent coin to Geelong or Sydney.

There is more to life than dollars and it’s not like he is not getting paid big bucks
wherever he goes!

I think the story was he left because of John Elliott more than the money

I don't believe we have a 1st round pick this year, it was apparently traded to Hawthorn last year. So I don't know how the AFL will work out any compo for losing TDK should he decide to leave.
Whether we own our pick or not is irrelevant. The pick still exists and a band 1 compo would still fall immediately after it

I don’t mind adding another year to the present contract offer, he’ll be turning 26yrs on 16th July so at the end of this current 7 year contract offer he’ll be 33yrs, maybe some standard triggers to be met for the extra year…

It’s directly aligned to your final ladder position, whether you hold a current pick for that draft year makes no difference…

It’s still our pick, it’s just that another club has it

Tom stays or goes.
Not much more the club can do and the supporters even less.
It’s his decision to make.
What’s becoming clearer though as time goes by is what a sick and twisted person Silvagni is these days.
It’s reaching the stage where his current stance should also be the preferred position of the club as well.
A sad state of affairs for Jack and his mother but totally of Stephen’s making.
That offer is extremely irresponsible list management (even more so for a ruckman) and definitely not in St.Kilda’s best long term interests.
It’s a unique situation at the Saints these days.
Ross and his mates have been handed the keys to the club and a case can be made for he and Silvagni abusing their positions in driving personal vendetta’s.
This whole scenario has the potential to turn very sour for the Saints long term and history will judge accordingly, the liniment sniffer who enabled it all …

Have Saints actually come out and confirmed the offer to be true? Just curious. So far as far as I know it's all media hype.

Yep and the difference between $1m before tax and $1.7m before tax is $371k a year or $7,134 a week. But as I said if you are already taking home over $10k a week (your $17k less the extra $7k) before any sponsorship which already is massive money, who much do you really want the extra $7k? What more do you really need?
In a world as expensive as this. You take all of it because it's still not huge numbers and it's only for limited years. It's security against injury, it's security for your children if something happens to you. It's future opportunity and freedom. It's providing the best for your family. It opens up opportunity to be far more philanthropic in retirement... I'm taking the extra every day of the week not for me but for my family. Why wouldn't you.

If TdK takes the an offer like StKilda’s we are only talking $300k more after tax. $6000 dollars a week. In the scheme of things, it’s not that great as he’ll be earning good money with us as well. What he gives up is the Carlton family, network and future business opportunities that I don’t believe he’ll get at the Saints. IMO, Short term gain for long term loss.
