This week we head back to the MCG as the away team once again to play Hawthorn who got back on the winners list in round 7 when they gave the Eagles a bit of a touch up at Marvel. Richmond meanwhile played some good footy in the ANZAC Eve clash against Melbourne bar for the 3rd quarter to fall to yet another defeat and now find ourselves entrenched in the bottom 3 on the ladder.

Now while everyone would love to see us winning more games, it should be pointed out that winning the game isn't the most important thing for us in 2025 when compared to the green shoots that we continue to see from our younger players as Yze continues to pump games into the kids who he believes are part of our future. We've had 6 debutants in 7 rounds and there is still more to come with the likes of Smillie Alger & Sims who will be looking for opportunity while the likes of Fawcett Gray Smith & McAuliffe are all waiting for their next chance to play senior footy.

One of the things that has made 2025 so enjoyable to watch this year has been not only those 1st & 2nd year players getting their chances, but also some players that have either had lines put through them or plenty of questions asked about them starting to show a bit of the talent that got them drafted in the first place. Guys like Dow Hugo Banks Green Trezise Brown & even Maurice have shown glimpses of the type of players they could become. Sure like the team itself there are peaks and valleys in their performances from game to game & quarter to quarter, but we are steadily seeing the gaps diminish as they get continuity in their roles & game time.

So as we head into the clash against Hawthorn, the main thing I'll looking for is those moments in games where these young players have a patch where they make you take notice or a quarter/half where they really impact the game. For it's these brief moments that are the true 'wins' this year and the more we get to see them the better the teams overall performances will become, which will in turn lead to more actual wins that are worth 4 points.

The Hawks are probably a pretty good team for us to play against after a chance to freshen up over a 9 day break between games. Some of the younger kids would certainly have benefited from the chance to rest up and recharge the batteries a bit, while some of the older guys who have also been carrying a lot of the load also get a chance to get over a few niggles and knocks, which hopefully means that when we do run out on Sunday we'll be ready and raring to go to put up a decent showing against the Hawks who it must be said haven't exactly been on their game the previous 2 weeks against Port & Geelong.

Predicted Line Up

In - Balta (day release)
Out - Gray

B: Balta Broad Miller
HB: Short Vlastuin Trainor
C: Ralphsmith McIntosh Trezise
HF: Green Mansell Campbell
F: Faull Lynch Lalor
R: Nankervis Taranto Hopper
INT: Brown Ross Banks Dow Rioli

For what it's worth, I think we'll be in the contest for the first half yet again and there will be a patch during the 2nd half where the Hawks will ramp up the pressure and their execution will be switched on and they'll put a 3-4 goal gap on us and will then keep us at arms length the remainder of the game, but we won't be blown out of the water be any means. They're a bit ahead of us in the development curve and it will show as the game wears on. Hawks by 3-4 goals in the end.

Oh and for those of you thinking of heading along on Sunday, to sit in the Ponsford Stand on levels 1 & 2 if you're not a away games member is going to cost you between $80-160 for an adult ticket and $50 for level 4, which is bloody ludicrous for a game in round 8.

If we get ZERO goal celebrations from Watson, Ginnivan, Macdonald…I don’t care if we lose by 60…And I’ll gladly watch the replay…

I think we are going to get a hiding this week ...
Still will watch it makes me enjoy the wins even more when they do come around.... Hopefully we are able to counter the overlap running which the Hawks do so well and prove me wrong

They've lost Amon and Scrimshaw to concussion.

I'd like to see Gray play forward/2nd ruck but it'll probably just be a straight swap Balta for Gray.

In - Balta
Out - Green

Samson Ryan: Foot, 1-2 weeks

“We got some scans on Samson Ryan. He is still dealing with a plantar fascia complaint,” Serpell said.

“So hopefully we have him down for one to two weeks from now."

Mykelti Lefau: ACL, 3-5 weeks

“Thankfully, Mykelti has got through a lot of training last week and he is in even better shape now so he will be down for three to five weeks at this point in time,” Serpell said.

Tylar Young: ACL, 4-6 weeks

"Similar to Mykelti, Tylar is progressing really well," Serpell said.

"He has started training this week without a non-contact hat on, so he will have full training the next few weeks, and hopefully he can get a body of work in, and we are confident that he can return to play."

Harry Armstrong: Hamstring, 9-11 weeks

“Harry is out there doing a bit of running now," Serpell said.

“He is enjoying it, and we are getting some good work into him.

“There is an opportunity here to also work on some other football skills, which is awesome. So, he is still 10 weeks away but progressing quite well.”

Dion Prestia: Achilles, TBC

“Dion is progressing similar to last week,” Serpell said.

“No real update on where he is at, but as I said last week, we will have some information out when we can on him.”

Taj Hotton and Josh Gibcus: ACLs, TBC

“Taj and Josh are going in leaps and bounds as well,” Serpell said.

“Taj is progressing well, and hopefully we will have a timeframe on him in the next week or two.

“Josh is progressing as well but again, hopefully in the next week or two, we will have some timeframes on him, so we will see them on the training track doing more footy drills as the weeks progress.”

Does anyone else feel that the hawks are vulnerable?

Like I wouldn’t put money on it, but three teams from history remind me of the hawks.

1997 bulldogs under terry wallace. They were never the best team but they gained a reputation for playing dirty (players from other teams were often scratched and other dirty sh1t behind play) it led to teams hating them and was a factor in them losing the 1997 prelim.

2000 2001 bombers played uncompromising football went through the 2000 season only losing 1 game and won the granny easy. But by 2001 their arrogance had started to see teams go extremely hard against them. Richmond beat them in the last round of the home and away. By the gf they were done. Never to come close since

2017 crows those guys especially under Taylah were a bit too smart arse with their power stance and over the top arrogance. Made for easy pickings.

I would also add 2021 Melbourne. That stunt after the gf of crashing the bulldog after party was an idiot move.

Hawks have attributes of all these teams. Especially the coach putting Barrass down forward.

The hawks may win the premiership this year. But they also may start to crumble as teams hunt them.

Yep. They're missing quite a few and flirting with form. If we play the full 4 quarters we will push them.

They know the umps will be on their side.
That's a certainty.
And we know how they change momentum in a game like the cheats last week.

CFL treating the faithful Tiger Army like pawns in chess.

Ump HQ smells of rotting fish.

Let's see what shenanigans they come up with this time.

A long history of cheating going back when Richmond started out as a club.

Our club walked off the ground after an infamous rort of the umpires.

Seems to be a long history with these campaigners.

We love you Richmond we do!

I sang that and stand up loud and proud in the fourth quarter watching our Tigers make a mini comeback after the rubbish served by the umps in the third.

Considering the performance against fellow cellar dwellers Melbourne, which was made to look better by some junk time goals, I'm a little worried here.
Hopefully with the longer break the lads can be at their best and take the game on a little more.

I wouldn’t be dropping Grey. He showed enough last week to warrant selection, even if we play him forward.
Throw him forward and annoy the absolute shit.out of Sicily
