Tom Boyd: "So players; give us your all tonight. Show us the courage, and conviction and character that Danny brought every single week when he played..."

St Kilda players: "Who farted? I'm hungry. Wish this bloke would stop talking, etc"
Spud would dead set be pissed off tonight

Stocker’s been good lately. Played well on Shai last week, kept Motlop to only a couple of touches throughout most of tonight. Can’t get the updated stats atm but his smother as well was Nioce.

Unfortunate result tho, definitely was lacking a couple of players standing up and winning the game off their boot.

Lastly, Carlton fans the most loser fan base… Genuinely think they are owed success, the carry on is just so over the top, cannot stand the entitlement mixed in with the aggression.

Just had a look at the game stats, they can be misleading sometimes. We had as much of the ball as them but the quality of their clearance work was by far superior to ours.

Our kids will learn but you can't carry midfielders having 10 & 11 possessions. TDK, McKay & Cripps grabbing the ball out of the ruck opened us up far too often.

Then our inability to stick tackles at times showed the difference in mature players vs kids. Put TDK, McKay & Cripps in our side and we win by 10 goals.

I will name one player who's poor games are starting to stack up and needs the acid putting on him - Brad Hill you were disgraceful.

Very disappointing. But we didn’t help ourselves that’s for sure. Higgins off color wasn’t ideal. And a target like King….or even someone impersonating him would have provided more of a contest. They have some very experienced back men.

Some of the kicking to space or leading targets was just deplorable. I criticized Hill during the game. Everyone saw it.

We did bits and pieces ok. Just not sustained. We hung in there and kept plugging away. But needed to be better. Pou had a good first up game.

Just hope we gained some experience of playing on the MCG in front of a big crowd. Maybe a few were a bit overawed. Onto next week.

I continue with Keeler - Caminiti hardly offers much more. What Keeler does is allow Owens to stay in the F50 and compete. If you look at Keeler v Caminiti I know who i would be putting games into and who has the higher potential
If we could combine Caminiti’s heart/aggression with Keeler’s skill/polish, we’d have the perfect specimen. I have doubts on both being successful AFL forwards because of their lacking what the other has. But I still think Cama makes it as a defender because he can spoil the ball as his main goal.

Literally every Saints game this year has followed this pattern:

  • win the clearances; win the game
  • lose the clearances; lose the game

Turns out games are won and lost in the midfield, who would have guessed?

We went -10 tonight so it would have been a steal if we'd managed to take the 4 points.
And how many mids did we draft?

This year it was fine tbh. Boxie will be decent, Trav will be decent, Said seems to be a mid but I haven't seen him play.

Last year was ok, Hugo and they reckon Wilson will be a mid.

Year before only one, but it was Pou.

I don't think we're making those same mistakes any more, but it just takes time for the guys we have to get to AFL quality in there. George Hewett is playing career best footy this year at 29. Probably not surprising Hugo can't really compete with him considering he's 10 years younger.

Surely you couldn't possibly think that a few were a bit overawed.

Wonder how much culture we built after tonight? Or was there no more to build upon after last year's Carlton win? On another note, Langford would've been handy tonight... oh wait... that's the same note....

But really, expected a loss but hoped for the best. We had a big win last week and Carlton were crap. We tend not to back it up or bury teams who are down.

I don't want to blame it on Spuds game, or Maddie's match, or whatever else. As a professional club, we should be able to turn it on regardless of the occasion.

Carlton was average Af tonight, we shouldn't have lost that one.
Langford would have done SFA tonight.

You know who would have been handy is Taru tho

Wilson will never be a mid. I've never seen a bloke as scared of contact in my entire life.
