Wardlaw was atrocious by foot (52% kicking efficiency and 6 horrible turnovers) but we can forgive that. His efforts are ridiculous

He goes between beautiful use and horrid. Half of the bad kicks are when he is just in animal mode, but his technique of kicking low opens up turnovers.

brooo don't know how to feel, feels more like a loss, but it isn't? ah well, i'll take those 2 points from the Lions

6) North must ensure this is not a false dawn

North Melbourne may have delivered less than expected so far this season, but an impressive performance against the reigning premier suggests Alastair Clarkson is doing plenty of things right. The most optimistic may even see Sunday's effort in getting a draw against Brisbane as the equivalent of Hawthorn's massive momentum change after a slow start last year. The Roos face Richmond next week, then Collingwood and West Coast after their bye. If they can win the two bottom-of-the-ladder clashes it might just provide the spark to set off the fire everyone has been waiting for. - Howard Kimber

Is there a more miserable excuse of a commentator than Gerard Healy, sweats on any chance to give a 2 minute monologue about a mistake from us, and goes into overdrive, fapping about Lachie Neale getting a rare touch, who was soundly beaten for 90% of the game, managed a paltry 6 kicks and 11 handballs

Post-game thoughts from a surreal and empty feeling with a tinge of optimism;
  • How much better did we look structurally after we dropped the extra tall up forward? I think we can put the red-pen through that experiment
  • Xerri, Sheezel, LDU, and Parker all immense in that 4th quarter. Great to see our 'leaders' step up.
  • On the flipside, Simpkin, Powell, McKercher, and Wardlaw all with some sloppy/unclean play in the latter stages of the game was immensely costly.
  • Loving what we're seeing from Hardeman and O'Sullivan. Especially Hardeman who was immense today. FOS didn't rack up a lot of touches but you can feel his presence.
  • Larkey... do I need to say it?
  • I like Finnbar and think he has a bright future... but probably needs more VFL time.
  • Bailey Scott did absolutely nothing as the sub essentially. Shouldn't have played.
  • Dylan Stephens isn't elite but he's developing into a reliable player which is nice to see.
  • Zurhaar... best game of 2025. Sleeves forever.
  • Worth calling out since I have highlighted it previously; only one player today who didn't record a single tackle (McKercher) - much better intensity across the board from basically everyone.

Agree with most, but LDU was sloppy with the ball all day. He is so close to elite but needs to bridge that to do it.

Colby didn't record a tackle but his pressure got him his goal.

I think it’s turning. Slowly, painfully, but not imperceptibly — Port are ordinary, but we could have beaten them at home. Essendon are ordinary, but we should have won. Brisbane are grouse, and were basically full strength: we were missing our best small defender and best forward.

It’s not happening like the it’s happening gif. But this team is starting to look like…well, a football team. Must beat Richmond next week. But a hell of an effort today. The Comben is a forward crew might have a little re-think. Also those writing off Daniel after a shit start at a bottom 2 side. Dyl Stephens one of the top wingers in the comp atm. It’s trending in the right direction.

Could have won it if konstanty worked with Stephens. Stephens better at using it when entering 50 or could have least brought one of them into scoring range.

But a good 4 quarter effort. Was it six set shots out on the full? Made the difference in the end
Stephens would have been kicking from inside 50 he could have had a shot, all we needed was a point.

As flat as a steamrolled pancake but also excited by some of the footy I saw this evening, we took it up to the defending premiers and if not for a lack of polish would have come away with the win.

Remember Clarkos analogy after the blues game where he was talking about golf. One week you can’t putt so you spend all week practicing, putt much better but you’re hitting out of bounds all day.

That’s what this game was like. Worked so hard defensively. Dominated around the ball and then can’t kick. You can’t really train for that. Most of these blokes would kick 75% of those missed shots but just didn’t today.
