Your inside mids don't need to be elite kicks, but you want your outside players and small forwards to possess elite attributes.
Yep, that pretty much sums up most of our issues, yet we haven't added much to the list to address this in the last couple of years.

We need someone innovative with high IQ and EQ. Unfortunately I think the best are already taken. McRae, Chris Scott types. We also need someone innovative elite assistants like Nigel Lappin.

huge clean out required

Coach very quickly shapes your list. Our list is slow and lacks good kicks who take the corridor on. List turnover has been too low. Direction to recruiters has not been good enough regarding pace and kicking. Focus has been on big bodies and accumulators. We have been very much stuck in pre 2022.

Now we are wearing it. We have badly misread the modern game.

Voss and co are years behind in terms of tge modern game

Even if they embraced the modern game it’ll only be catch up…

We need good minds that can innovate….and work out new and better game styles to suit tge list you have.

It’s not possible to turn over a list quickly so you need to work out a system that works effectively with the what you have….with a bit of list tinkering.

Voss is decades behind and will always be that way. He is not an innovator full stop.

Voss wanted Houston but Carlton said No.

I wonder how much Voss is to blame .. or is it a case that he just has to work with what he is given?
I'd love to hear what Voss really thinks about Carlton ... only that aint gonna happen until after he is gone ... if at all?

I believe the Coach should have more control ... which is what it appears to me that Sammy Mitchell gets at Hawthorn.
But then ... they know how to win Premierships over there ... Carlton doesn't, unfortunately.

I think we were right to say no though realistically.

Houston alone wasn't turning this season around. Then you're stuck with an aging player on a big contract. I think we accidentally lucked into making the right call (assuming they didn't expect this season to be the struggle it's become).

I want a putter that sinks 12 foot putts with magic buttons I can press and turn it into a 6 degree one wood so I can push less weight in my golf bag - which I want to turn into an SUV at the end of the round or better still a helicopter which doesn't need any fuel - Ive been waiting for decades for this and I am entitled ! Also big clean out required too.

They also gave up a future first and 2 players that were sought after. Would have cost us a first and a second minimum and probably more.

While Houston has fitted into the Pies structure, his form hasn't been amazing this season.

...and I want to look like Brad Pitt .......Oh wait - I do ;)

Look Andy, supporters just need to pay their memberships and keep quiet.
Everyone pulling a wage out of the place are doing their best aren’t they and what’s 30 years between friends anyway …
Honestly, some supporters just don’t know how lucky they are …

Which knee?

Voss outcoached Ross tonight.

The holding of Young forward.

Turning the game into a dour snooze fest when down 2 men.

Well done Vossy.
Yeah it was a well coached win.

I didn’t mind that we went in tall - use of young is getting better and better.

Our systems worked well.

Young as a stay at home forward is a hard match up.

Harry playing further out makes more use of his skills - marking, quick, can tackle. Good option if he’s getting doubled teamed on the forward line.

Lyon played into our hands. Voss admitted as much in the press conference.

By all reports it seems Voss will be our coach in to the future and supposedly we know his limitations and will give him support, so what have we been doing the past 4 years? Why has it taken until his fourth season to work out where he needs help and that the current assistants aren’t up to it?

It’s pretty disappointing stuff to hear in a coaches fourth season.

Realising the recruiting, drafting and talent ID isn’t up to scratch 5 years or more in to a list managements teams tenure is just as turd.

Would expect the answer is that you can't fix everything in one off season, and when there are mutliple issues it can be very hard to determine which fall where in the sequence.

We've gone through the "the head coach is the issue" a few times, we've done the "the fitness guy is the issue" a few times, we've done the "the assistants are the issue" a few times. I think the smartest thing we've done in the last 10 years was to finally realise that we needed to dramatically cut back on the injury prone players we were hoping would come good and become game changers.

Had we put together a more durable list sooner, we'd have had a better handle on where the gaps were elsewhere (ie. strategy, planning, oppo analysis, speed, disposal, etc.). But as long as we had an injury list 15+ names long, it was always going to be hard to judge the rest of the club. "How do we know if the gameplan works, or if we have the right player types, when we keep getting so unlucky with injuries?"

Now they're gone, we're seeing better football in patches, but it's becoming more evident that when our "best" 22 are out there (or close to it), we still need to address some deficiencies in player profiles and planning/strategy.

I think the list cull was the first domino that needed to fall. Without a healthy list to develop and choose from, no coaching group is going to have a good time of it. But now that it's fallen, the next few dominos need to demonstrate that they can do the job with a healthy(ish) list, otherwise they'll be falling soon too.
