Agreed. There's smoke and there's smoke machine smoke. This seems far more like the AFL journalistic staple: Re-hashing onr tenuous source, then a few weeks later quoting another journalist whose source was, well, your original story. It’s not that journos make stuff up (although some get as close as you can get to doing that). It’s more that once someone has “reported” something, it becomes available for endless reproduction via the “reportedly” adjective. Suddenly, there’s half a dozen journos reporting the same thing, and voila — “smoke”.
Yes, there’s the facebook thing, but what’s the justification for treating current reports as anything but re-reporting of old reports of the fact someone reported something? Max Gawn reminded everyone about the old reports.
Like I said, more Ellis on HBG then Gawn trolling with that one for mine. It’s not that journos make stuff up (although some get as close as you can get to doing that). Yeah, it's less about losing Jackson, more about what it says about this club where there is ANOTHER player we have traded in who's tried to leave within like 4 years, yet alone letting a WA talent go like Jackson who has 4 years on a contract. The optics and everything about it would be revoltingBut I do agree that 1) I hate dealing with Melbourne - they're the ultimate bad faith negotiators and 2) If Jackson goes this year then it's pretty much the last straw - we'd be guaranteed never to get anywhere as a club with everything on top of letting him go at this point.

Ellis is not a newsbreakerFor mine personally, Gawns trolling is meaningless but Ellis is also saying Melbourne people are confident and there is the whole Facebook thing which is pretty important info. I also don't think journos strictly make things up as many people like to think (especially someone like Cleary).
There is clearly smoke there and to think otherwise is just sticking your fingers in your ears and screaming.
Where i make the distinction is its obviously a very long way from a foregone conclusion he actually is pushing to leave and even if he did, I expect Freo to say no for a few years anyway. Finally, like wakojako said, there won't be anyone at Melbourne he even knows by the time he's actually out of contract.
I'd prefer a rolling ruck structure anyway. Develop Riddle and use him with Jackson and Voss kind of things.Unpopular take I know but I don’t think Jackson is big enough to be a full time first ruck. Not for me
It was on afl.com.au website I cant find it but basically it said clubs cant trae players but can move up in the draft. We'll find out soon enough.Source?
I don't think they brought that in
Riddle is a few years away.I'd prefer a rolling ruck structure anyway. Develop Riddle and use him with Jackson and Voss kind of things.
Keep things flexible and mobile.
Riddle's miles off afl level. He gets aroud 4 possessions a game. He's only on a 1 year deal and I theink he could be delisted at the end of the year.I'd prefer a rolling ruck structure anyway. Develop Riddle and use him with Jackson and Voss kind of things.

Think the idea was floated but never got off the groundIt was on afl.com.au website I cant find it but basically it said clubs cant trae players but can move up in the draft. We'll find out soon enough.
The main way you hold onto Jackson is by having him contracted until 2029I think we’ve got to trade Darcy to hang onto Jackson. The main way you hang onto Jackson is by backing him in as the number 1 guy, and extending that contract..
That means you have to get rid of Darcy… either way a call needs to be made.

Yes, I believe so. That would mean getting Darcy fit though and hope he gets to his best this season, trade him to Geelong or GWS.I think we’ve got to trade Darcy to hang onto Jackson. The main way you hang onto Jackson is by backing him in as the number 1 guy, and extending that contract..

I keep reading this stuff about a Facebook post but I’m not really sure what that’s about? Could someone please elaborate on what happened there?
I wouldn't want to deal with Geelong at the trade table.
