You're right. Still, he does offer a common direction for the group that hasn't been forthcoming under Rowy and Heens.
Agreed. Although I suppose one could argue our wins against GWS & Carlton were more four-quarter and effort-based than any we dished up in previous years. How much that has to do with on-field leadership though, I don't know.

Had a fantastic year

Just imo never thought he was the inspirational captain people think he is.
He never seemed like it to me either, but listening to Campbell today, he spoke glowingly of Mills as captain and what he brings

Don't know , he hasn't had much of a chance yet, I think he has shown he can be a match winner. I mean Danger has barely been captain during his career for example.

Some good captains can just be good strong leaders too around the club. I get the type you mean though.

Either way he is skipper and good to have him back.

JPK fit the mould of the inspirational skipper and he kind of didn't seem to want to actually do it in 17/18 alone.

Hopefully makes it through the game , seen some selfish displays with him over the years

I'm talking about the General...did you perhaps think I was speaking of the Claremont boy. No need to fix my Paton comment I don't think ?
It is all there in the history. You were talking about the Claremont boy. No hiding.

Avoiding the issue is usually a sign of defeat. I will accept your defeat. Admirably.

I like a good conversation.

Back in the day it was a done thing, but with the game being so professional it is today I wouldn't think too many players drink during the season. I could be wrong.
They do but designated days. The club normally has one or two days they can. But once they are back at training they arn't allowed I believe. This is how it was explained to me.

Are you saying this didn't happen next Sunday?

Has he played FULL games in the middle at all? We seem to like everyone else plonks them everywhere except where they should be. Give him 3 weeks in a row full time in the middle then we know. How hard is that to ask?

The last time we treated a Claremont boy the way we treat Gus, he left for more opportunity.

His name was Darcy Cameron.

I think you're confused and over excited
Your last part of the comment I replied to was
"We have played Paton over him…I repeat Paton! Have you seen how bad he has been"
And I replied I've never seen how good he is in reference to that part of your comment.
I like Sheldrick.

You could of course be jesting...But then who knows.

McLean didn't look the goods in the VFL, and Florent, whilst effective enough once he came on, didn't really look significantly improved as sub, so hopefully just being demoted alone is enough of a kick up the arse for these two.

Unless Florent is sub again, which I also wouldn't be against - Adams might bring more hardness than Florent, which we need.

Not expecting big midfield minutes for Mills this week but he'll surely ramp up in the following weeks if he recovers well. So Sheldrick is gonna need another big game or he might be squeezed out again.
If Ollie was effective then he must have improved. You basically shot yourself in the foot.

McLean should not play. He was atrocious in the Reserves. I watched the game and boy was he on the nose. Against a Reserves defender. Don't want him anywhere near the Seniors until he can kick 4 and give 5 off.

I would change things big time for this. Blakey Forward. Paton back. Adams sub. Mills starting forward. He leads up to the ball well and is a great shot for goal from anywhere under 60. I want Wil to play a different role, one out in the goal square on May. Take May to the ball. I would like to see us spread the players wide and centre it as we come forward or find the lead on the 45 degree angle. Blakey with a similar role to Cameron for Cats. Heeney & Chad resting in the pockets.

Paton got more games in a row! A bloke that looks like a headless chook on the field!
Why on earth are you comparing Paton to Sheldrick? Just because it suits your argument? They play two completely different positions.

Sheldrick played a full game in the middle last week for God's sake!!! He wasn't subbed, he didn't sit out the second half, he had reduced minutes FOR REASONS THAT NONE OF US ARE PRIVVY TO.

Mills should not be in the starting side ahead of Sheldrick.

That is a big mistake. A mistake of trust in Sheldrick. A repeat of when Mills was back early last time and stuffed the side. I like Mills but he is just a man and needs to earn his spot back not just on limited minutes. Not acceptable.
Sheldrick will play. He won't be sub and he will be on ball. What's your problem? Mills got 20 in just over a hald of ooty in the reserves. He had breaks in that too. He was good. He's ready. I think Paton or Adams will be sub.

Paton, Mitchell or Bowman aren't getting picked so McLean is coming back....unless we're going to try some nuts tagging role with Paton again.
Not sold on McLean walking back in after doing nothing in the twos. Yeah in form he's probably best 22 and even in current form I prefer him to Ladhams.....but he was the statement dropping and should've been made to perform and earn his spot back to add weight to the message sent when he was dropped. Also getting him in form and taking marks is just as badly needed as the message.

Detest 3 rucks in the side. Doesn't work, Hopefully we can get away with it this week then drop one again when Jmac and Melican come back next week.

Latest runs on the board should matter most.
Bringing back underdone players into a winning side and not rewarding form players breeds resentment and other not conducive mindsets into the playing team.

Form does not matter. Just hierarchy and seniority.

Goodbye Sheldrick and I say very good luck to him in a new side next year that would appreciate good performing players over seniority.
Seriously? He has had to battle because he too has had a series of injuries. Not only that, his disposal when he did come in was lamentable. One of the things we built our game on last year was really good disposal. Sure Sheldrick gets the ball but up until 2 weeks ago his disposal was laughable at this level. Even that kick that got Chad last week was a shank lol. He is going to get plenty of minutes, because he can extract and we are not the best team at that. If we get a tap to advantage we will take the ball away but the difference is Sheldrick can extract from the hard in and under, sticky situations and give off to runners. I like Gus. But I see the pos & negs in his game.

Agree with most of what you've said - except about the pistol, I'm loving him big time atm, but I think Big Cox hands were tied with McLean's selection.

I feel like Swans fans compared to other clubs' supporters are so fair and level-headed until it comes to Angus Sheldrick and then they just lose their minds for some reason. I really don't get it.
Oh I don't know. Lots of them losing their minds over Ollie, Lloydy, Dawson every time we play Crows. I seem to remember every person on her hating and going nuts about Towers. Before last year most were demanding, I mean demanding we delist Amartey. But it seems the most angst is reserved for Ollie and Lloydy. Even when Lloydy was in the first 5 in the Skilton people on here were ranting about how effing bad he was. The years he won the Skilton, people were saying he should be dropped and he was having an average of 30 and doing very well thank you. Most people on here don't like certain players. I love them all. They play for US. Remember that. There are some players who I will say things like; He needs to improve his disposal, like Gus. But that is bleeding obvious lol. That shank to Chad was a great laugh, even for Gus.
