As a gamer who liked TLOU2 story (lots of people hated the game), I thought that the Abby/Firefly story was just as great as Ellie’s story. I hope Season 3 does it justice.
Yep, as a gamer, I am very much looking forward to seeing this side of the story unfold tbh

while I did enjoy the game, the story for part 2 didn’t land with me.

That said, I didn’t mind that season, and am intrigued as to how the next one will pan out.

I really hope they make a third game to round out the series though. I’m starting to have my doubts if we’ll get on though

As a non gamer I’m not sure why people wouldn’t be interested in Abby/Firefly story. Her Dad’s story as they were on the verge of finding a cure. Also delving more into that religious cult.

Although overall second season not near quality of season one
I agree it should be really interesting.

My only concern is based on how S2 has gone and the development of characters is how it will actually land. As I alluded to in my earlier post, the handling of TV Abby is strange to me. It's almost like the showrunners are letting game Abby do the heavy lifting and viewers of the show are just expected to know and/or take other characters' word for it that she's 'all that', when the show itself has done nothing to demonstrate it. With the amount of people that didn't play the game, the approach IMO is a bit odd.

My non-game playing partner last night after the credits rolled, said, "That show really went off the deep end didn't it". lol, so I think if I do watch S3 I will probably be doing so alone.

Meh.

The usual rule is if you don't see a major character die then they are probably not dead. But I don't care about Eliie one way or the other. I cared about Joel, and the depiction of his death was very well done. But that was several episodes ago.

Will the show be about Abby now? Another character I don't care about.

It's an interesting story line from her POV. I think it will change a lot of minds on how this season went.

“Oh no my boat capsized* and now I’m being abducted by the scars, oh never mind, back to my boat”

Would have to be one of the most pointless random scenes I can remember in a TV show.

*Edit: from a wave that came from land

Pretty certain she also couldn't swim in the game.

Predicable

Overall good season 6.5/10 not as good as season 1

Just didn't hit the same high notes this season, a few strong episodes but wasn't anywhere near as gripping viewing.

That’s quite the drop off from season 1.

That was the overnight because it was a public holiday. They also say they expect it to jump and the overall season has been a big step up. But click bait..

There was a 55% drop because it was a public holiday? Seems like quite the stretch…

I'm not sure what you mean. The 55% was in comparison to the consolidated rating of the season 1 finale, while the season 2 finale was measured on the day of release. Of course 1 day of viewers will have less than a consolidated 7 day rating, and particularly when it was impacted by a PH.

Season 2 of The Last of Us concluded Sunday night with an audience of 3.7 million cross-platform viewers in the U.S., per HBO.

This is significantly lower than the Season 2 premiere episode’s 5.3M viewers, but the network says it expects there to be significant growth after the Memorial Day holiday weekend. That potential for growth is evidenced by the fact that Season 2 is already amassing more average viewers over time than Season 1.

I think the death of Joel early on dropped quite a few viewers. I think the possible focus on Abby in s3 might not go over too well.

Except S2 is averaging more viewers than S1 so not sure that stacks up.

It’s a challenge they’ve got, trying to appeal to both the gaming fans as well as those tuning in that haven’t played.

I’ll still tune in for season 3 but I feel like season 2 was a fair way off season 1.

What will be interesting is the viewership per episode in season 2. Did it decline?

Also, weird when numbers are up for the 2nd season from the first. Did people just skip straight to season 2 and not bother with season 1?

I presume it means in the week of release, you have to stop measuring at some point to get an accurate picture of viewership over time. It's like when you look at historical viewership of shows from like, I dunno, ten years ago, they aren't some massive numbers because people have gone back and watched them multiple times..

I finally watched the Finale, and as a non-gamer, I felt this season wasn't as good as season 1. The way it ended was unsatisfying. I really don't care about Abby or Seatle, but that's the direction they're going. Even though it didn't show if Abby killed Ellie, I just know she didn't. I suspect S3 (The Abby season) will just build back to that point again where Abby has a gun on Ellie in the theatre. So S4 will take the story from there. But without the presence of Pedro, the show really lacks something.

Kind of agree with the general consensus that they didn't quite stick the dismount this season, was always going to be challenging telling half a story (by design) and the obvious endpoint they landed on was never going to be particularly satisfying with a two-year wait for the next season.

If there is one thing that's piqued my interest for season 3, it's less the Abbey story the game's laid out (although Kaitlyn Dever is great) and more the potential for the expanded world building and exploration of other parts of the story TV allows (they've already foreshadowed and expanded role for Isaac, for instance.)

Don't think adaptations should ever fear from creating their own stories or reworking narratives when it makes sense. Because the more I think about it the more I feel like ending this season on Joel's death and showing the degradation of his and Ellie's relationship would have served the series, and especially Ellie better.

Yeah, you'd lose some of the shock value of seeing Joel go out so early, but the current pacing and non-linear structure is not landing for me in the way it did in the game. Maybe you don't want to cram 5 years into one season (though Andor did something similar to stunning effect) but I kinda wish the show aimed more towards Station Eleven than The Walking Dead with a bigger budget.

Enjoyed the season, but it's been hard to cram everything in the game into the show.

Agree with all the comments about pacing. Especially the last episode rushed way too much.

Mrs isn't a fan of Ellie either, and considering the next season isn't coming out for a couple of years, she's happy to watch a full play
through of both games beforehand.

Never heard about Station Eleven until now and looking it up, seems really on the other end of the spectrum of TWD. Station Eleven without reading spoilers seems to be an ultra slow burn character driven. Could be wrong but was on the fence after watching the trailer as I was intrigued but hoping you could give a bit more info.

Agree with everything in your post too btw.

Station Eleven is brilliant and one of the most underrated and under appreciated shows out there.

But yes, it is far more character driven, if not entirely character driven. It’s a different take on the post apocalyptic world where not everyone is bad, although very damaged. I highly recommend it.
