It was a Melbourne home game. Hence the slightly lower than hoped for crowd.

Did you go to the game?

I did. And I was bloody proud to wear the Big Freeze beanie and to be a part of such great cause.

It beggars belief to read that people think we should walk away from this day.

Agree - superb day.

The problem is the ticketing process. Lots of games are "sold out" yet we rarely hit even 90k.

I looked at general admin for my kids but it was basically sold out and that was a few weeks ago. So I ended up buying them guest passes in the MCC.

MCC had it as a tier 1 game and due to popularity made members get a reserved seats......yet it wasn't full.

With a better ticketing process we could easily have got 85k.

Plenty of people are missing out on games for no good reason.

It wasn't the most exciting game we've played, and credit to melb, I thought they played very well and if Fritsch wasn't the most selfish player in the comp, they could have had a chance to win it. But he is, what he is.

We were better in the bigger moments and made them count. The conditions didn't help, and neither did bombing it insode 50.
I don't think people realise how much of a loss Lippa is until he isn't playing. With his running capacity and delivery inside 50, connecting between the mids and forwards. It's something we missed.

Mcstay had a few nice moments coming into his first game post injury.
Josh, Howe, IQ were all fantastic. Along with Pendles and Sidey.

Long does what Long does, a beast that's hard to control.

Don't know about Ned being an animal but I wouldn't mind knowing what went on next when the gif stopped

I also think that playing Cox in the VFL is affecting the development of our young talls.
He's kicking goals etc., but it should be West, Mason, Howes.
Ditto the ruckwork: Steene and Smit.
Time for Mase to retire.
This idea won’t age well if we get to the finals and Cameron has picked up an injury. I haven’t seen any poster comment that Steene or Smit is ready for the AFL yet.

He's such an insufferable flog. Best culture ever at that shithole. No wonder they barely have a home base.
Watching and hearing Goodwin trying to be Fly is just hilarious. He tries to use the catch phrases "getting back to work, wrap our arms around him, and great culture" when all the world can see that he plays selfish players (Fritsch, May, Oliver) and that Max Gawn is the leader of that club rather than the coach. Trying to be Craig McCrae doesn't make you a great coach Simon...you've tolerated too much selfishness and poor behaviour in your time to start being a legend now!

We didn't play to our capacity (and for the first time in many years didn't make Max accountable by playing Coxy), we had our best player being lassoed at every contest (and unseen apparently until half time by the officials), we played without a few (well probably only 4 of our best 22 DeGoey, Maynard, Schultz and Lipinski) and yet we still survived and outlasted a side that kicked goals out of packs off the ground! I'm also pretty sure Bobby Hill's first goal went through as well before big Max got a hand on it....but who's counting!

Getting to the bye 11-2 is fantastic considering the early draw we had. Time to reset and go again after the break, hopefully a few of the lads get some sunshine on their skins over the break.

We actually saw what Max does against a single ruckman yesterday. For years we've had Coxy and Cameron double teaming the big bloke (like they do to Oscar McInnerney when we play Brisbane). Max nearly stole it for the Dees yesterday and we've really got to be careful about how we treat certain sides by only going in with one ruckman. It'll work against some sides but Not Melbourne, Brisbane, Freo for example. Coxy aint dead yet.

I’ve never really seen Gawn angry or animated with anyone on field before including the opposition. Quite impressive from Steve to be able to piss off a bloke like that with his superhero level of floggishness
Agree. If I recall Ginnivan disrespected Gawn once but never repeated it. Gawn gave him the stink-eye and that was the end of that.

We should beat Melbourne by at least 8 goals later in the season.

I thought they gave their absolute best, but it just wasn't good enough. We had a poor game, in very ordinary conditions, and still won the game when it needed to be won.

Maynard, Schultz, DeGoey, Lipinski all to come back into that lineup.
I wonder when Mitchell will come back in.

Mark it down Nick Daicos will destroy them.
