There's probably always a bit of room when any club is in negotiations. But I doubt it would come close to bridging the reported $5M difference. I'm just content it seems to be largely a money thing and not a club culture thing which would be more concerning.

That's free agency - it's not always fair. I'd personally rather let TDK go and take the pick and the salary space than offer him 1.4 million a year for 7-years. That would be far too high imo even for a ruck with the potential of TDK. And I say potential because he is not the complete ruck yet. Still has major issues against big-bodied ruckman which drive me up a wall. It's like someone has to go up to him during the game and yell "YOU ARE ATHLETIC" at him so he stops trying to wrestle with the likes of Nankervis, Briggs, O'Brien, etc.

Max Gawn is probably still a top-10 player in the competition and arguably the greatest ruck of all time. There is no comparison.

TDK is tracking better than Gawn at the same age and is already a top 3 Ruck in the league
He actually is the next Max gawn

We don't have to do anything. If TDK wants to stay he can stay on a million bucks a year.

We can't afford to pay him any more without destroying our cap and preventing us from addressing any of our other problems.

Gawn had significant injuries early in his career which hurt him. But Gawn is another level to all current rucks in the AFL even now at 33. What TDK will become who knows. But right now there is no comparison.

If he leaves and the spill over is using a R1 pick likely to be diluted by academy and NGA picks for RoMa then all good.

My only concern for 2025 is when to upgrade to a premiership membership to get a guaranteed ticket should we go that far.
