Who else has put money on North to win?
4 to 1 was too good to knock back.
Now watch us win.
Oooi i hope you do ok!
Obviously they selected best experienced team for a win..save face and sell some hope for top 8..
If Carlton VFL was doing well and they were a bit better then it was more likely.....otherwise will disrupt both of these struggling teams.....let them bang the door down with wins and stats first

Feel for Lemmey here—not only is he overlooked for selection, but he’s not even named in the emergencies.

Given the quality of the opposition and the strong block of games he’s put together, I really thought he’d earned at least an emergency spot, if not more.

This feels like the kind of game that could come back to bite us. Voss appears to have gone with a conservative selection, likely influenced by the pressure mounting around his coaching career. But with our patchy form and ongoing struggles to finish second halves strongly, this might be exactly the type of match the opposition sees as a real opportunity, a young, energetic side with nothing to lose.

Hope I’m wrong.

With one forward already out and Charlie likely being pushed to play through injury, clearly a risk, this feels like exactly the kind of game where you roll the dice and give Lemmey an opportunity. We've seen others in the VFL do less and still earn a debut.

A player’s individual form should stand on its own. He shouldn't be held back just because the VFL side as a whole isn’t firing. Lemmey can only control his own performance, and by all accounts, he’s doing that.

This whole outrage at the selection table because Lemmey wasn't picked and Pitto was is pretty lame. The narrative that Voss is being conservative and only protecting himself by choosing this player or whatever is so reactionary.

The fact is when McKay came out of the side the MC went with a debutant in HOK to cover him, not just as a forward but also as a relief ruck, they didn't choose Pitto they went with youth which is what some are crying over right now.

Lemmey is not really a ruck, and hasn't been taking any ruck duties in the 2's for a while, and has been improving as a forward as a result, ironically now that Pitto is in the seniors he may have to ruck a little in the twos.

So now that HOK is injured, I believe the plan is to replace him forward predominantly with TDK, and for Pitto to come in and do the ruck duties with TDK doing the chop out. It is a perfectly reasonable option given our list makeup.

To just bring Lemmey in for HOK is not like for like nor is it providing a back up ruckman to spell TDK.

As for other changes, I would have liked to see Wilson or Boyd come in for Doc, as I don't think Doc is the future for us even if he plays in the backline, but he does have a good tank and can fill in a few roles so I guess is game day insurance. I also wouldn't have been too upset to see Acres come out but with Walsh out and Binns already playing, I don't see any other young player with the tank to cover Acres output.

All in all the selections are understandable and certainly not just Vossy trying to save his career or whatever narrative people are trying to push.

Yep. Mature player in = conservative Bossy protecting his arse is lazy analysis in the extreme.

The anti Voss crowd expect him to write this year off and start playing kids to assist his inevitable successor by fast tracking development

I haven’t seen much outright “outrage” about Lemmey missing selection, it's more a sense of surprise that he hasn’t even been named as an emergency. Given the current state of our forward line, not having him as a backup option feels like a real risk.

Naming him as an emergency would’ve at least sent a positive message, that he’s on the right track and not far off a debut. And with the nature of the opposition, there was a case to be made for having a player like him in the mix.

All in all the selections are understandable and certainly not just Vossy trying to save his career or whatever narrative people are trying to push.

I think it’s fair to say that Voss is under pressure, and it wouldn’t be surprising if part of his approach right now is about trying to secure his future as coach. He’s had four years with the team, and while there have been positives, there are areas where it feels like we’ve gone backwards. That’s why there’s been some quiet discussion about whether he’s the right fit moving forward.

Personally, I’m still in the camp of waiting until the end of the season to make a fair call—especially to see how the second half plays out. But I do think there’s a level of caution in his coaching that reflects the pressure he’s under. It’s not about being critical, just acknowledging the reality of the situation.

A reasonably fit Charlie in recent times hasn't been too flash, so I hope he's not struggling with this calf and will be brought in with view to drag the best defender(s) away. My view is, rest him this week, take the gamble to freshen him up and anyone under a cloud and trust a few kids.

Maybe the campfire moment of 25 would be Voss collecting the group and saying to the kids we have faith show us what you've got.

Anyway, too late now... squad has been named.

Did Charlie train fully yesterday?

If so, can’t see why he wouldn’t play.

On Charlie Curnow’s availability:

“He’s going pretty good, all indications. He trained pretty much the whole session - I wasn’t sure how much he’d get through, but he got through the lot of it. We expect he’ll play.

“Coming in, we weren’t sure where we’d go - we let him lead us where to go next, and fortunately he was able to complete pretty much the entire session. He might’ve missed five minutes, that’s about all.
“The indication is as long as he pulls up well today, he’s playing, fit and available.”

Vossy's presser ...

There’s a bit of a contradiction here.

He says Pitto has been selected based on his form over the past 2–3 weeks, but then also mentions that Lemmy has shown consistent form over the last 5–6 weeks. Based on that, I'm still a little confused as to why Lemmy hasn't at least been named as an emergency.

Young makes more sense as an emergency because he provides coverage for multiple roles. If Charlie was a definite out maybe Lemmy would be a direct replacement.
I wasn't even considering Young in my thoughts. He is an understandable selection and has been a team first player all year.

I was thinking O'Farrell or White, and I actually like both, they’re definitely players for the future.

O'Farrell is already covered defensively through Young, and White doesn’t seem to be a necessity based on the current team selections. Using form as a reason for his selection would also contradict what was said about Lemmy’s consistent form.
