This is a crazy take, Jezza been one of the best forwards for a decade, what an education for Tauru

Thats exactly my point why would you put an 18yo kid on the player leading the Coleman Medal. Yes Tauru got an education but if you wanted to win the game wouldnt you play Wilkie on him.

Garcia was a sizeable loss today. Almost certainly would have had the job on Holmes I imagine and he got off the chain so much that we had to pull Windy back off the wing and into a run-with role on him.

It’s pretty awesome how important he’s become for us so quickly.

We’ve got a serious future midfield cooking now if we retain them all.

Nas
Pou
Garcia
Windy
Box
Trav (?)
That’s what we have to keep our eyes firmly on after frustrating days like today.

1 win out of the last 10. Obviously never expected to win today, but what a grim season.

Our older players have all dropped off significantly.

We really should win our next four, but I don't think we will. Happy to trade Steele and Marshall.

Lyon will keep going back to the Macrae/Steele combo. I think it is really hurting us. Neither can play other positions.

The moment we have NAS or Hall roll the middle, we immediately look better.

Next year midfield needs to be NAS, Pou, Garcia, Macrae, with Hall and Owens getting bursts through the centre also.
These uncontested turnovers only team to be beaten by 🚾 are certainly no certainty

“But if you wanted to win the game” might be the key part of that.

We probably don’t want to win too many games that ultimately won’t help our draft position.

If we keep playing as we have been, there could be as many as 4 in a row coming.

If we swarm and pressure the crap out of these coming bottom 6 teams they’re likely to find it extremely difficult to score.

Watching today was frustrating, cause it feels like we’ve played the same game for the past month or so. This year has been a disaster since February. Injuries exposed our paper thin depth and we never recovered from the round one belting to the Crows. The kids we have definitely have promise, but jeez we are paying for the horrible list management of yesteryear. Our senior players struggle consistently and we are getting less input as each season passes. Not having a core of handy 24-28 players is glaring. This off-season is so crucial, cause we need to plug the gaps in our list, maintain our current talent and make sure we are healthy going into next year. Another year of the same - which includes injury to key players - and the die hards will struggle to find time and money to care. Getting King, Pou etc back healthy is a bare minimum. while I’m not overly excited about TDK and Aleer, they do improve our list. The eyes are firmly on Steele and Marshall, would entertain offers if someone if silly enough to overpay. Finally, while others don’t want to see it, I really hope we can get a four-game streak going in the next month. Winning is important and might give NAS etc a reason to be optimistic.

Sh#t coaching this season, first quarters not switched on and basically losing tight games as a result, not to mention losing to rubbish like the WCE.

Senior players running out of steam late in the game, Sincs down in form and not damaging, Higgins a passenger for weeks. The list goes on.

I would play Box, Moose, Hastie, Wilson for the rest of the season.

Bring in Dow for Clark

I’m losing my mind with Nas

If we can’t get the signature of a player we drafted who’s turning into a top 5 in the game star we might as well fold

Hill isn't immune from criticism but it's all over social media, he even had to defend himself on the clubs own instagram post a few weeks ago. It's ugly and I don't think it does any good for the culture of the place when we are struggling with retention.

Also bulk kids puts added pressure on old guys. They carry more load to make up for the kid's shortfall. Hill has a had a couple of ordinary games this year but it's like people have all of a sudden realised that he's not an elite player and are raging about it. He seems much the same as he always has to me.

When you go to live games you see his massive workmate to run to create options for the kicker. I've begrudgingly decided he's alright just as everyone else has decided to hate him.

1St Q was putrid, but I thought we did ok for the other 3, apart from that 7m in the 3rd.

Our biggest issue is still no linking mids with run and burst

I really want to see Wilson given a block of game as a rotating mid, we need to find out what sort of player he can be

Fair enough, so we go back to the question: whats changed?
Hill has been around long enough to know whats what. So what has changed for this drop in form and more alarmingly; basic skill errors?
Is it change in position? possibly - I think his best is on the wing. If this has been taken away from him he may be less confident in teammates positioning and amount of time he has to make a decision which could absolutely result in these turnovers and skill errors.
Is it a change in role? Again possibly. NAS moving to midfield may have forced Hill more D50. Structurally this might make the team lopsided.
There needs to be accountability, especially when a player is on decent coin, has history of better output and has extended their contract.

I didn't see today's game but generally he gets done holding the ball too long because we refuse to present ahead of him. Often he's worked his arse off running a long way to present and then goes, kicking at pace with lactic acid building up doesn't lend itself to elite kicks.

It's a lot easier being a running seagull in a well drilled side full of mature players. Hill types don't have a game that lends itself to being a major senior driver. He doesn't have physicality or contests to fall back on and win it in the trenches. He's still a valuable piece of the side still.

Some weird takes on some kids playing lately.
'Play the kids' we hear when a team has stuffed their season.
What do people think that means? It means to get experience, to get games and development into them.
Then people complain when these kids do turnovers or miss tackles or are pantsed by an experienced forward.

They will make mistakes, they will allow goals like Gulden last week, they will cause easy goals like Tauru has. If you want kids played and developed, you live with these mistakes and losses.

Four teenagers playing today, all St.Kilda.

Forward line or lack of forward line. I think we had 4 of the first 5 clearances to just watch it come straight back out.
Yes our mids are a little on the slow side but they are not the problem atm, they are actually doing a reasonable job.
Max Heath needs to show more faith in his own ability. He had several opportunities today where he could have taken the kick himself but chose to handball. For rucks this is generally correct but not when you are free. He’s really the old school dinosaur style ruckman so he needs to use his weight and hold his marks.
Higgo has forgotten how to football. Yes he kicked a couple but his confidence looks way off earlier this season.
Mitch did well but he’s not a tall forward target.
Ro had some good moments and some howlers today. I still think we can work with both him and TDK in the same team just not as the ruck and resting forward. I think TDK looks good around the ground playing loose as another mid.

We preserved our high draft pick whilst fighting till the end, took it up to em for a short burst, didn't get blown away by a seriously genuine flag contender, and getting more games into more players.

We have to secure the highest pick we can and get the best midfielder available.
Won the 2nd and 4th quarters.
Lost by the margin of the first.

Was looking like a shellacking at one stage early ….
Just like the Nepos right now 🤣

Honestly, nobody “hates” him.
Just wish he’d make better decisions and realise he can’t outrun, out dodge oppo players anymore. Like Dougs had to.

Nah that excuse barely worked when he was occasionally damaging. Now it’s almost like he’s been directed to tank. Give him a good rest.

Can we discuss Mitch's goal kicking, or do we just have to accept it?

It will cost us in a massive game down the track. It's deplorable if we are being honest.

It really is a shame because he's such a warrior and all other aspects of his game are enormous.
His kicking style is really weird, Reminds me of an NFL punt the way his leg ends up so high.

Would love for him to get some help for it, Matty Lloyd would be a good one.

It was the same old story, we were competitive in patches but we never really looked like winning the game.

I get the feeling that winning isn't the priority right now though it's about getting the best draft pick possible.

If we can keep NWM, get TDK and get another good quality youngster with pick 4 we will be back in business.
