With about 3:40 on the clock in the 3rd quarter Bailey Humphrey bursts out of the clearance in the centre circle and runs almost to the edge of the square without ever bouncing. Anyone able to give me a distance on that? Have to be 20m easily.
This was booed heavily at the ground when it happened.

Gotta give you some credit re annoying us for years about ‘contested marking midfielders ‘

In Dawson and Curtin we’ve prob got 2 of the top 5 and it certainly helps

👍
Yes, I banged that drum pretty hard ....Curtin & Dawson demonstrating the value of contested marking between the arc's.

Allows players to reset their positions to for fwd entries ...but also takes pressure off our DEF when exiting D50

Are we now the tallest side in the AFL ? .....Maxy, Hinge, Worrell, Murray, Butts, Curtin, Tex, Thilthorpe, Fog ...and even Cook, Nank ect

I've seen people get very passionate about their hate for the stand rule, but I don't really understand their position. It is designed to create more fast paced football, which I'm all for. And even if doesn't, we're just back where we were before, so who cares.

Now, if people are complaining that it results in so many 50m penalties, well that's just because many football players are stupid and don't know how to stand ****ing still. So, you could argue that all rules that people choose not to follow are bad rules.
👍 ....
like every great rule, the Coaches try and water the ruling down, so it can be exploited ....and then complain about the grey the Coaches created

Stand rule is great ....Coaches are getting teammates to run thru the protected zone, in an attempt to draw a 50 mtr penalty .... FFS if coaches spent as much time on coaching to win, as they do on exploiting the rules ....we would have a better standard of footy

2 changes I'd make:
1. Players must stand the mark ...not 5 mtrs behind ...umpires job is hard enough

2. This is how the circle started initially ....both Ruckman have to have a foot on the circle perimeter, B4 the bounce, and can't be closer than 2 mtrs from each other

I will give props to Milera, he’s starting to gain confidence within himself
Yep, what a bonus he's been

I had my doubts that he'd be able to overcome yet another serious injury but he's moving really well

A couple of brainfade moments yesterday but overall has been very sure ball in hand. Starting to break some tackles too, just like old times

Agreed. If he can break through lines and add dash from hbf that’ll be huge come finals

Interesting thing about John Noble is a lot of Collingwood fans rub on him was that he'd get scored on the other way too often. Basically at least 1 brain fart a game that resulted in goal the other way

Suns fans fan seem to be starting to notice the same problem

The tweak I'd make is a player standing can play on if the kicking player moves off the line without the umpire saying so (who is usually too slow) BUT if the standing player gets it wrong and the kicker doesn't deviate off the line it's a 50

And they’re way too quick to call it at the best of times.

They should err on the plus side of 15 metres.
agree - this should be a call made when it is so flippin obvious, that every single person at the ground including the hot chip seller in the stand not facing the play notices it.

I'm the other way around - I don't understand how "it creates more fast-paced football" is an argument for anything. How about we ask the man on the mark to sit down and cross their legs as well? That will create even more fast football in the process of making a mockery out of the game.

As usual for the AFL, they have taken something that wasn't broken, and created a "solution" which causes more problems than the thing they were ostensibly trying to fix.

Very good reader of play, sees things early and creative with pinpoint disposal when at his best, seeing the benefits of a full uninterrupted season and will be important going forward.

No sorry you can’t boo MacAndrew, he is of Somalian decent and that automatically makes you racists.
Please refer to Adam Goodes.
Adam Goodes was a very different case. He wasn't just booed by the fans of one club for a previous incident. He was booed by a minority of fans of every club. It became a huge issue and even then, when it did get labelled as racist, some people still booed him. Because they couldn't give a **** about whether or not it might be seen as racist. It hounded him out of the game and was one of the most disgraceful things that's happened in the last twenty years. And you wonder why other countries think we're racist.

Was there but didnt have the vantage to see that play and was also definitely not surrounded by vocal fans.. apart from myself.

Very quiet crowd at AO overall I have to say but that might reflect a match that was (pleasantly) lacking in tension

Actually, Cook has played wing previously in his AFL stint. In one match, he pantsed Ed Langdon for half a game, but his possessions fell away later. He was good in running up and down the ground to both squares and made good position.
Yeah? I don't remember, but I have an excuse: oldness :shoutyoldman:.
When he was used, he got a few goals.
Yes, and I do remember he could take a grab, but not like Curtin (that kid's freaky-good!).
I just don't remember thinking of Cook "Oh wow, that was good; he can football".
Probably my fault again (oldness :sneaky:), not his.

I know a few others have mentioned Jones. Not sure you could see much of his work on TV. But live his job on Anderson was pretty good to watch. Anderson still got plenty of the ball, just never really got the opportunity to do much with it

Anderson was clearly not enjoying the attention either
He was not enjoying the umpires.

Why cant we boo Mac Andrew? Can fans not boo opposition players? As you have noted, he is a flog, people dont like him, and they were expressing that. If there was anything to do with race in it, fair enough, but there isnt.
Im not a fan of booing in general, but if I booed every player who I thought was a flog it would be constant.... particularly on weekend like this next one.

I find it pointless really, people made more noise for an oppo player than they did their own at times

Interesting. Don't think I've ever seen you post with such hyperbole before. Certainly seems to be a divisive rule.

And yes, perhaps if players can't follow simple rules like a primary school kid, maybe we should make them sit down and cross their legs like children.

I normally hate when the AFL make rules, because they're usually vague and rely on interpretation. The stand rule at least is as simple as it gets. Stand there. Right there. And don't move. And if you don't, you get penalised. Easy.
