Interesting. Don't think I've ever seen you post with such hyperbole before. Certainly seems to be a divisive rule.

And yes, perhaps if players can't follow simple rules like a primary school kid, maybe we should make them sit down and cross their legs like children.

I normally hate when the AFL make rules, because they're usually vague and rely on interpretation. The stand rule at least is as simple as it gets. Stand there. Right there. And don't move. And if you don't, you get penalised. Easy.
Its a ridiculous rule, the 50 that Read got yesterday is a perfect example of exactly why its stupid.

I know a few others have mentioned Jones. Not sure you could see much of his work on TV. But live his job on Anderson was pretty good to watch. Anderson still got plenty of the ball, just never really got the opportunity to do much with it

Anderson was clearly not enjoying the attention either
Cracking tackle on Witts too

I'm the other way around - I don't understand how "it creates more fast-paced football" is an argument for anything. How about we ask the man on the mark to sit down and cross their legs as well? That will create even more fast football in the process of making a mockery out of the game.

As usual for the AFL, they have taken something that wasn't broken, and created a "solution" which causes more problems than the thing they were ostensibly trying to fix.
It was slightly broken in that players would move along the east west line when far from goal or alternatively when the mark was close to goal plays would move along the perpendicular to the straight line from the mark to the centre of the goals. Umpires would randomly choose which one was in effect.

Adam Goodes was a very different case. He wasn't just booed by the fans of one club for a previous incident. He was booed by a minority of fans of every club. It became a huge issue and even then, when it did get labelled as racist, some people still booed him. Because they couldn't give a **** about whether or not it might be seen as racist. It hounded him out of the game and was one of the most disgraceful things that's happened in the last twenty years. And you wonder why other countries think we're racist.
All that may be true but Goodes was the main culprit that caused the sliding rule to be brought in for contact below the knees for the damage it caused. Goodes was famous for it much like Sam Mitchell was for kneeing his oppo in the thigh causing bad corkies that was what initialy caused a lot of the booing.

Yep, what a bonus he's been

I had my doubts that he'd be able to overcome yet another serious injury but he's moving really well

A couple of brainfade moments yesterday but overall has been very sure ball in hand. Starting to break some tackles too, just like old times
Feels like he's one of the few that will kick a low ball into 50 that'll hit a teammate on the lead too, rather than just bombing it in high. When he plays on first instincts he can be great, it's when he second guesses himself that he struggles, like that sideways handball in the corridor he did that resulted in a turnover for us.

Was there but didnt have the vantage to see that play and was also definitely not surrounded by vocal fans.. apart from myself.

Very quiet crowd at AO overall I have to say but that might reflect a match that was (pleasantly) lacking in tension
Maybe just my section. I was in the Western stand and few of my neighbours were getting riled up.

On the contrary, l think as a player and a coach he has shown to be as tough as nails. He never takes a backward step in support of his players, club and supporters.
'Tough as nails" + fair play is one thing.
Hardwick is something else again; a grub.

A nasty, deliberately rule-breaking grub, both as a player and afterwards as Coach.

Richmond still do all the grub Hardwick stuff that he taught them --- holding players down in heavy packs to stop them from marking, "incidental" punishment to an opponent after he's marked or disposed of the ball, disguised as momentum or with "I-didn't-mean-it" hands up (ooops!).
Who do you think taught Cotchin and others to look at the ball while meting out head-high bumps to players in vulnerable decisions. Also, how to flop.
Before you doubt that please watch this; ignore the shit Umpires' decisions, just look at what Richmond did:

Hardwick taught them that.
Hardwick has trained GCS to do the same shit.

I don't see that the stand rule had anything to do with that.
Its what the 50 was paid for, Murray moved to intercept the handball from Reid after he played on. But because the umpire hadnt called play on, it was 50

Agreed. Got no problems with people booing a player after a dog act... and then only a couple of times is all that's necessary. Booing them every single time they touch the ball is childish. Booing them the next game you play - whether it be in the same season or next, is ridiculous. Get over it FFS.

If it was that simple, we wouldn't see 50m penalties being paid practically every match.

We often see, for example, two players near the mark, and each thinks the other is being asked to stand. 50m penalty ensues. Neither was impeding the play, in fact both were attempting to leave it.

Or a player doesn't go back over the mark and appears to play on. The standing player is right there - are they allowed to tackle? Very inconsistently umpired. What's the player meant to do?

And that's before we get to this farce of players running away from the mark so they can be permitted to continue moving, leading to a never-ending refrain of "STAND! OUTSIDE FIVE! STAND! OUTSIDE FIVE" for the entire match.

And I'm still yet to see what problem it was we were trying to fix. Yes, players are allowed to now just run straight around the player on the mark unimpeded, but I'm far from convinced that's a good thing.

And all that may be true too, but once it escalates and you keep booing … you’re a racist

SO....

10 Alex Neal-Bullen ADEL: 5-5
6 Matt Rowell GCFC: 3-3 (4-2)
6 Daniel Curtin ADEL: 4-2 (3-3)
4 Josh Worrell ADEL: 0-4
3 Mark Keane ADEL: 2-1
1 Max Michalanney ADEL: 1-0
Whichever coach didn't give Worrell votes should re-watch the game

Back line was immense yesterday. Just gobbled up everything (with 1 horrific exception). Worrell has to be in the 40 man AA squad.

Midfield battled well against 2 of the best in it. Berry's tackling was great. We actually missed him when he went off, it's when they started to get the ascendency in the 3rd. Soli and JP love the fight. All of our mids hit the scoreboard too, with Daws, JP, Soli and Berry all kicking one.

Tall forwards were well down (only the 4 goals between them), but it was the smalls that did it yesterday. ANB 30 and 3, Rankine 2.2, Keays with some great defensive pressure.

Loved smashing the Nepo babies. May they crash and burn out of the 8.

Not doubting this but every country is racist, it isn't just Australia. I've lived a fair amount of my life overseas and we don't even get a seat in the top 25

I love scoring but early season we clearly needed to rebalance things a little, which to Nicks & the players credit they've done & we've become really hard to score against whilst still retaining a very strong attacking profile.
I gotta say, with full egg-on-face humility :sadv1:, that I never thought Nicks would address that imbalance.
I watched that game and whinged for weeks afterwards that I'd have preferred the scoreline to be 100-40 instead; a bit like 107-46, actually :sneaky:.
It's another big change/improvement for which Nicks et al deserve full credit.

Yeah I expected it in the first quarter and fair enough but it got boring pretty quick

Rode past Jordan Dawson on my scooter on the way home tonight. His dog scared the crappers out of me ! Left calf heavily strapped, maybe he was sore or slight injury from weekend ?
