Im convinced he has no idea what he’s doing .

He seems hell bent on making Warner a ff

Refused to make any changes in the 3rd then the first cba of the 4th is rowbottom, jj and jmac. 3 plodders

How can anyone blame dean we dont have any forwards or talls left lol

If the game restarted from beginning every tip would be against us

I wasn't( didn't mean it that way ) , i think he made odd moves but i also think he's been limited in what he can do

Problem in the third wasn't our centre bounce combination (we actually won the first 7 clearances from centr bounces), it was the giants rebounding from defensive 50 in a wave we could not keep up with.

He tried putting Heeney and Warner up forward to force accountability, it just... didn't work.

Can see what he was trying to do though

He’s been hampered by injuries at unfortunate times (along with dumb suspensions). However, he seems hesitant to make changes when a team has a run of goals against us. Other than flood the defence he seems bereft of ideas. Hopefully he gets a decent assistant who can help in season 26.

With McLean off and Hamling hurt the options are limited

but he picked Papley half fit, Sheldrick half a tank, made a tall sub

And leaves Blakey dragged deep every week, keeps picking Roberts etc

Doesn’t throw mills on the ball. Odd

Hard to throw Mills on the ball when we had no McCartin down back and lost Hamling just after the start of the third quarter. We didn't have anyone else we could replace him with down back as well, particularly as Blakey became required to play a key defensive post.

GWS have a very dynamic and large forward line, plus multiple tall rebounding defenders, as far as opposition teams go they are probably the one team you can use a tall as the sub against as it gives you flexibility.

Maybe it's just me but when the sides getting flogged anyway it's not that complicated. Nothing was working, can't go any worse so move the magnets

Think the Giants third quarter would have smashes any team in the league tonight, you do that in a grand final you're premiers. (Luckily it usually only happens in a blue moon).

I think he tried moving the magnets, just had limited options and nothing worked.

  • Heeney and Warner up forward to create spark
  • Rampe further up the field to try interception of ground balls
  • McInerney moved positions multiple times as well
  • Gulden in the centre more going for clearances (I didn't love this move personally)

Unfortunately we didn't have a tonne of flexibility due to the injuries we received.

  • Mills had to stay back due to Hamling injury and match up need (no one else could possibly go with Stringer except Rampe, who did a decent job on Greene)
  • Francis could have gone back as the sub, but was required to make a contest up forward
  • Papley too injured to move into the midfield similar to previous years

I dunno what the coach is supposed to do when your booting it long Francis and Buller. And our key defenders are Melican and no one.

It's a complete mess.

I’m not quite sure either.

But our midfield is at full strength and we couldn’t stop them carving us up. In fact, our FULL STRENGTH midfield was made to look absolutely incompetent.

Coach or players? I’m not quite sure.

But parking Sheldrick in the bloody forward pocket does my head in. Ditto using Campbell in some kind of weird negating role.

Look all fair points, except at 3/4 time **** it he could have actually moved Mills , literally wouldn't have mattered who was in defence and you never knowZ

Either way it's been a baptism by fire for the poor bastard . Literally lost a player 30 seconds into tonight.

But we haven't learnt picking half fit players

Out of the finals now, but the next month is still important.

If I see Papley and Hayward limping around on the ground or Roberts kicking his helicopter punts to 1 on 3s, while perfectly healthy young players are sitting in the reserves, I will do my nut.

Complains about not making changes then goes on to complain about the changes.

Go take a look at Warner's heatmap.

Someone has no idea but it's not the coach.

I think if we can get some new assistants in to fill out our coaching roster and get him some support, that would really help. I know guys like Isaac Smith and Luke Shuey have been mentioned and would be very welcome. But I would also like to see a more experienced assistant brought in if possible with the extra soft cap space.

From there, a full preseason for him, with a fully fit team and a full group of coaches to plan and implement the preseason, should provide a better platform for him and the team. We can then get a better idea of what he has as a coach. I like that he made changes this year. Some of them worked, and some of them didn't. There were always going to be changes that didn't work, you never get everything right, but I'm glad he tried new things. The ones that haven't worked he has mostly rolled back which I think is to his credit.

We have had an enormous amount of upheaval in the last 2 years.

Tom Harley August 2025
John Longmire November 2024 (Replaced by Dean Cox - Leaving an assistant spot vacant)
Rob Inness (High Performance) Septemeber 2024 (replaced by Shane Lethane)
Simon Dalrymple February 2024 (Was supposed to take over from Kinnear but now that needs to be reworked)
Charlie Gardiner November 2023 (Moved to Melbourne then joined Collingwood in 2024 - Replaced by Leon Cameron leaving an assistant spot vacant)

That's a significant back office refresh. A full spring and summer for everybody to settle and plan should be very beneficial.

Onwards to 2026!

Sums up a lot of the issues reasonably well

A lot of Swans players looked to be carrying niggling injuries and could use a rest and rehab.
Losing Mclean and after half time , Hamling were big blows

Year is over, give some of the senior players such as Papley and Gulden an a rest for a game or two and play some youth and see where they are at playing seniors

Cox inherited a horse shambles and horse knew that so got out . I will hold judgement till end of next year with cox and let him have a new FULL coaching panel and change the playing group to his needs and a complete new game plan and I think he will thrive.
