He's lost confidence in his hands, he's seeing them like Chris Dawes right now.

But the double fist is no good because our midfield is getting killed in transition, so we're always outnumbered at the fall of the ball.

I'd honestly tell him he's not allowed to go the fist, and just cop the goals we'll leak from the drops. Because we're leaking them from the fists anyway, but one of the few times we look like scoring is when Darce intercepts and rebounds quickly.

That being said - I'd be playing him forward, because he hasn't been a difference maker down back since '23. And our crop of 192cm "key" forwards isn't bringing the ball to ground at all.

(I know we're never moving him forward. I'm resigned to this.)
I’d still love to see him play ruck. 😊

I wanted that about 5 years ago, a mobile marking ruck option. now I'm just just watching a career not fulfilled with the clear talent he has. had a fantastic 18-24 month period, but no where near the player he should be.

how often is it his mistake or his opponent costing us the first goal.
its just not good enough for the clubs leader
beyond frustrating

It has to be a consideration.

It becomes difficult when your captain has been made to look so vulnerable at times over the past 2 years.

To be fair he has been alot better than last year. But it's not just him flapping like a seagull after someone once the system breaks down, it's also the bone headed, momentum sapping stuff ala the tap to Watson for the hawks first goal tonight.

Nick is not hard nosed enough yet for mine and can be passive and a bit insular in his body language at times (i also think the grimacing and flexing body parts when things aren't going his way is there a bit too often.)

Maynard worries me as I'm not convinced on his maturity, but he would be where I'd go if you had to.
Just give the captaincy back to Pendles. People still look to him and sometimes still mistake him as the captain.

The players voted for Moore as captain. They will make their choice again before the 2026 season.

Not sure if the coaches get involved at all?

In Moore’s time, he’s also been well supported by other on field leaders, in and outside the leadership group. But age, injury and form have caught up with some (Howe, Pendles, plus Maynard missing games) and undermined their effectiveness.

Add in the midfield getting smashed, and a defence which is constantly under attack and has changing personnel seemingly on a weekly basis - and this is what you get. It’s been a recent perfect storm for Darcy.

It’s also apparent that some on here have been lining up to attack him. Some posts are almost gleeful.

The players don’t believe in his on field leadership anymore. Easy to see how deflating it is for the playing group when their captain makes a massive error(s) week after week.

The best way to assess this is whether he’s voted captain next year

I watched him take a kick out and it was just so obvious, why isn’t he on the other end of it?

He should be a target, someone we look to as an outlet.

He doesn’t want the ball.
There’s a very simple answer for this. If the ball is turned over you want your KPD inside 50 defending it

Certainly time he relinquished the captaincy. Just us not good enough or consistent enough to lead and inspire the team.

He won't do that, and rightly so. That would be the act of a weak leader.

The leadership is shared, "captain" is a title. Howe was speaking to the team before the game. 1 minute into the game they had to see him get stretchered off.

Moore's form mirrors the side's (or vice versa); he is not playing well.

The length of the queue of posters lining up to fling their mud does not surprise me.

he is not leading by example
look back over the last few years, almost every week its his mistake or opponent costing us the first goal of the game, just sets the standard for the game
i thought i had seen it all until he gently palmed the ball to Watson for the opener last night

i can name on one hand where he has dominated a game with his marking over the past few years, not anywhere good enough

Both he and Howe have had a regular brain fade, even when the defence was flying. Yesterday's was diabolical.

The defence is unsettled and is badly missing the one player that got knocked out in the first minute.

Darcy hasn't been able to plug that gap, and the inverse has taken place; his own output has decreased.

We can all see this.

Calls for him to relinquish his captaincy are reactionary and punitive. He is what we have, the players will vote again in '26.

I don't care about the captaincy, I just want him to play better. He's our main defensive cog but atm he's almost in droppable form. Our benign midfield is the biggest problem though

I don’t think he’s in droppable form, chiefly because even when he’s playing badly he has looked miles better than the alternatives :/

Agree on both counts, mate.

It beggars belief that some see the best way to getting increased output from Moore (our only healthy elite KPD defender btw) is for him to relinquich his captaincy. Yeah, that will work.

It won't solve anything by relinquishing the captaincy. We have 2 weeks to fix the midfield. Time to drop long and Mitchell and try something faster. Hopefully Beau is back and we can play him and degoey in the middle more

I am crossing fingers and toes for:

1. Howe to be healthy. (* by far the most important thing)
2. To want to return to the field and get through unfinished business.

Along with Beau and Bobby, getting him back will be the biggest boost.

You make some good points, but it’s not reactionary. Issues have been coming and going for a couple of years now.

Why do players need to stay Captain until the very last years of their career?

He’s had a good go, is a premiership captain, might be time for someone else.

I liked Pendles’ approach in relinquishing at the right time. But if the players want him to remain captain…

I did not mean that he stays captain until the end of his career.

Darcy might decide at the end of the year to focus on his own form or the players might vote for Nick.

He has been atypical of a Collingwood tough nut in some ways and the calls of "he doesn't deserve the captaincy" are entirely predictable. (Yes he had a shocker by his standards).

This team when flying does so because there are riches of on-field leadership. Howe, Bruz, Pendles etc.

I don't see anyone bagging Pendles for his inability to turn the tide yesterday. It was a team-wide mallaise. Maybe IQ and Shoota can walk tall, but that's about it.

Giving someone else the "captain" title is not going to fix that, at least this year. If anything it would have the opposite effect.
