If we had half a key forward (Owens) we win that game by 5+ goals.

Richmond were absolute giants at both ends.
This is horseradish.

We could’ve had Tony Lockett out there today but if you kick it inside 50 to the lead of their uncontested defender, it’s not going to get any side 5+ goals.

However, not surprising, as you’ve been overplaying the personnel issue all year which is a secondary issue when there’s no connection going inside 50.

So Richmond had no say in it? Flooded all game. It was a poor game, Lyon said it was one of the top 5 worst he has been involved in, but we won, 3 in a row on Steele's 200th and people are crying.

It is the funniest thing I have read on here for a while.
There are some miserable bastards on here who are never happy🤣🤣🤣🤣
I agree. It was a very good result. We are playing people like Pou and Wilson who were terrible. If we turn it into a free range fest we would lose by 60. We did well, all things considered. Maybe we were lucky. Terrible watch, but result is good

The positive you can take from the game, aside from some of the kids, is that we know how to win games. It might be against crap opposition but we are getting it done.

Having said that wtf was Sharman thinking with the centring kick with two minutes to go? He really should have cost us the game with that decision.

Jeez we need King back. Also keep Marshall. But we really need TDK. He will make a massive difference.

Hammer is almost good. If he can improve his craft about 15% he could be a gun back.

A scrappy game but some signs from Box and Tauru. Nas just so elite now.

Wasn’t an issue hitting a target in the 1st or 4th when he had territory and time on ball.

But when losing the territory battle and rushed we struggled going forward in the 2nd and 3rd.

Guess what helps when clubs flood in that situation. A genuine 202cm 100kg Tall forward. Someone who can draw the defence in as they panic and lets other forward roam free or atleast crumb freely.

But by all means, believe we could thread the needle all day long on days like today.

Great point. No better way to practice our close game scenarios then when a game is on the line otherwise you become a team that just doesnt know how to win. Hopefully when we are in games where the result matters, this expereince helps the younger guys be prepared.

Hammer saved our arses multiple times today. Hopefully he can continue to improve in the role.

Winning is always nice but we've played about 3 good quarters in the last 3 games. Barely scraping over the line against bottom 4 teams doesn't feel great.
It’s still better than losing the close ones.
And we all know that we are capable of playing better.

Posture it however you like mate but kicking it to the lead of an uncontested opposition defender isn’t a height issue, it’s a decision making and disposal efficiency issue.

They flooded back.

Imagine it how you like. But that doesn’t mean there are just free players uncontested every time. We didn’t just decide to pull up and go slow once in good position forward of the centre to give Richmond a chance.

Did we miss some? Yes.

But we simply lacked a genuine tall forward. Hence wasting Pou as a pseudo tall today. (Which was utterly horrible)

Because we need a tall to connect it to.
To mark. Or to bring to ground for Higgo etc.
The lack of a true tall forward cannot be underestimated.

Felt like this was a carbon copy from the West Coast game earlier in the year.

Only difference was the Tigers bombed a couple of chances to kick goals in the last qtr, while WC took theirs.

There's some serious question to be asked about our front half this year, we lack the ability to consistently kick a winning score. Our defending has been pretty good, the mids have had their moments, but the forwards are a mess, and relying on King to be the saviour cannot be out gameplay for 2026.

We need a new forwards coach. Someone who can teach forwards to lead regardless of how many opposition backs are there. There's always a space, especially if 3/4 players are all leading in different directions. Our forward structure has been hopeless for years and is showing no signs of any improvement.

And, any player who breaks a chain of fast ball movement to hold up play while they search for an option that is no longer there shouldn't play again until they stop doing that. Looking at you Zac.

If you listen to Ross pre game (not that I'll be watching that again) RTB alluded to your point about height. To paraphrase he said we are not a tall side and we may have to adjust our style.

Then Sincs post game confirmed that we didn't play to instruction for much of the match.

It seems we were trying something different, which didn't come off aside from the win. This is the time to do this sort of stuff against this sort of opposition. It was noticeable from the first 5 minutes that they were attempting something different.

No excuse but possibly a reason for the way we played.

I have 0 issue with them trying something different. It worked in the first and in the last.

But once the decision was made to sub Heath. I would have played Tauru forward because we just needed someone to bring the ball to ground and give us a contest at the minimum.

Then I’m rolling Pou into that high ham forward role as I want him kicking inside 50 during the times we do go slow.

But ultimately our lack of height at both ends (particularly pre Tauru debut down back) have cost us this year.

Height has become a big factor in good sides. Hawthorn ran 4 talls Thursday. Adelaide play 3 genuine talls forward every week. Collingwood lacked talls at both ends and struggled the other night. Neale has been a revelation for Geelong and really helps Cameron.

Etc

If Pou is going to be stuck at full forward, I'd rather he stayed at Sandy getting midfield minutes.
It’s a tough decision, isn’t it. Give him on field time in the firsts when he might be a liability, or when we get a thrashing, vs let home test it up in the seconds

I dont expect Ross to drop him but I hope we can at least use him better next week. Having him outnumbered in the goal square most of the day was not a good decision.

Agree with Pou wasted. Disagree with moving Tauru. The kid is in his 5th game or something and for development would be giving him a 'job' to focus on. Flipping him forward and back (a-la Richo with Billings IMHO) does his development a disservice.

Win, lose or draw, at this stage the development of future key players like Tauru is paramount.

Agree with the height point. Looking forward to next year, it worries me and makes the signing of Aleer and TDK more important.

Yeah, I get that. He’s still got ‘star’ written on his name, so if he’s picked this week, he won’t be dropped next week. But I still expect - well, I don’t expect massive impact. So here is a question- once picked, do you play him as a mid? And hope he gets 15 touches ? For 65% TOG? Like Hunter? Or put him on a flank?

Tauru made a huge difference against the dees 2 weeks ago.

I’m not sure what he will be in 5 years time. He could be a star at either end.
