We're the premiers, the only undefeated side in AFLW or even AFL/VFL history and we have to play our first game against Geelong in Geelong.

Get ****ed.
How tonight isnt North unveiling the flag in a stand alone is incomprehensible. AFL looking after the W like the do the M. Pies and Blues have been irrelevant for years . Such a joke

👍 Yep. Why wouldn't you have the two teams that played off in the last two grand finals ( with a flag each ) and contenders again this year to open the season ?

Because the girls game will go the same way as the men's comp.

Carl v Coll 🙄

The fixture is ****ed.

That said, I'm looking forward to watching some actually competitive North Melbourne football this weekend when me and the family drive down to Geelong.

Side note; can anyone recommend where to park for the game?

Sounds like whinging purely for the sake of having a whinge. This isn't England.

I think having the first game of season away from the party atmosphere and flag raising could be a good thing for the team, having a big flag raising party didn't help the Lions last year, they looked lethargic all game.

Just me and based upon not a lot other than a feelpinion.....

It has taken us so long to get a look in at anything like fair here that there are a bunch of driven women within our club that will absolutely relish the idea of being the yard stick.

I highly doubt that it is something that is going to be easily taken from us.

It is of zero surprise that the team that we get first up is the team that came closest to beating us last year. So it is a nice little reminder of what the league think of us.

I hope we f***ing stomp them to dust.

Round 1 Saturday afternoon in Geelong, wearing the white vee. Just like how we did it in 1925.

They have a paid parking area, but you can easily park for free in the nearby streets.
Went there a couple of years ago for the final, and parked in the street where the pool is (Park Cres).

Great that the AFL has decided Coll & Carlton women should inherit their parent clubs' traditional VFL status, the same way they cemented C'wood & Carlton's VFL BIG CLUB status into the AFL.

R1 PREVIEW: AFLW's spiciest match-up, how Roos can beat old foe - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1388112

SATURDAY AUGUST 16

Geelong v North Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium, 3:35pm AEST

Last time they met:
Geelong 5.6 (36) drew with North Melbourne 5.6 (36), week two, 2024

Both Geelong and North Melbourne joined the AFLW in the same year, and while the latter has been a constant contender and is fresh off its maiden premiership, the former has always offered a reach challenge. While the Cats are yet to beat the Roos, each of the last five matches between the two have come down to a margin of 12 points or fewer, including last year's draw, and Geelong has historically been quite good at limiting North Melbourne's aggressive attacking game.

The Roos' stars will be on display, through the midfield and at each end of the ground, but so will many of the Cats. Georgie Prespakis is back to full fitness after a frustrating 2024 campaign, and Aishling Moloney has returned from Ireland raring to go. There is a sense, however, that the North Melbourne side bats just that little bit deeper, so even with some injuries to key players, it is better placed to cover them at this point of the season.

Tip: It will be hard-fought, but the Roos will win out. North Melbourne by 10 points.

There’s parking at the ground, try to grab one close to the exit though.

We need respect.

It was an unbelievable performance and I've seen promos for the AFLW this year that don't even show North players.

Its complete lack of respect but **** it. We're going to pork barrel stadium. Lets flog 'em by ten goals and do that to everyone else for the rest of the season.

Time to make a statement to the AFL and all the other clubs that "WE ARE NORTH MELBOURNE"

Another question about Geelong (I haven't been down to Kardinia Park for a game in over a decade); are they likely to let people on the ground after the game for kick-to-kick? Does anyone know?
