If TDK is re-setting the market at 1.7m, I'm happy to spend 1.8-2.0m on Harley if I'm the Eagles, who else deserves that amount of cash in this team. A contender bringing in Harley as the highest paid player at a club, possibly the competition, doesnt make sense after we've seen Cal Wilkie's reaction to the money thrown around from the Saints hierarchy, and they arent even contending.
I dont think he is worth the money, but WC arnt spending that type of coin on any of its other players, and I cant seen them doing that anything soon. By the time another player comes up who's in that pay range, the cap would have well and truly caught up with his pay.
At this point WC could front load him and it wouldn't hurt them.

It’s a fairly common opinion. That Reid will give up 11 million dollars to join Hawthorn instead of St Kilda.
St Kilda and West Coast could very well become our new talent nursery, especially now basically drained l Port Adelaid of all their talent.

Guerra, Gilham, Dew, Burgoyne, Wingard, Amon, and Impey. Taking talent from shit clubs is what Hawthorn does best. Well that and winning heaps of flags…

I don’t think any of these players turned down 11 million dollars to join Hawthorn instead of St Kilda.

2025 isn’t like 2005 I’m afraid. It’s easy to turn down 900k to take 800k. Not quite as easy when it’s 2.5 mill and taking 1.4

Let’s be real though.

Harley could and probably will stay at the Eagles and who would begrudge him, West Coast is a huge club and will come good…eventually. But he’s not going to St Kilda.

Do I think players accept less money to go to bigger clubs? Absolutely. Josh Battle did so last year.

There's giving up $100k per year, then there's giving up $1m.

No player is giving up $1m for the 'privilege' of playing for a club that's won flags in the past.

He accepted like 100k less. How much of a needle mover is that to someones life really? Is he buying a house in Victoria for 600k? I mean no

With 11 mill Reids giving up what. A Ferrari, a Porsche, a 4 million dollar home for his parents and a 4 investment properties that will pay enough rent for him to never work again by itself.

Im of the belief that if he isnt staying at West Coast, he is going to St Kilda. No chance he turns down that money for 1.4 at Hawthorn

Yeah. I don’t think Hawthorn’s offer is that far short of St Kilda or West Coast (if any of these offers are correct)

But I do think the bigger clubs have a major advantage over the smaller clubs in attracting players. I’m talking Hawthorn v St Kilda here, but Hawthorn play 10-12 games at the MCG, they play the Dons round 1, have Easter Monday against the Cats and they’ve got those brand new facilities in Dingley. Then you’ve got all of the off field opportunities through the coteries etc. They just tick a lot more boxes.

It’s not worth a huge amount but it could move the needle if the contracts are $100k to $200k apart. It’s a bit like the Eagles vs the Dockers or the Crows vs the Power. That’s why Collingwood continue to land these free agents when their list profile is rubbish. Players will take the financial hit to play for Coll, Ess, WCE, Adel, Geel etc over a St K, WB, NM, GWS or the GC. It’s not an honour thing or a prestige thing, players at those clubs typically have better careers and achieve more than at the smaller clubs.

I don’t want Reid because it’s a huge investment in one player — and like Clayton Oliver, Petracca and Viney at the Dees - when it does bad it goes really bad.

That’s why I think it’s good business for the Eagles to sit on that contract and exercise their options before agreeing to the contract. Accepting (that rumoured) deal is desperation.

2 mill is the discount

The Victorian offer is 2.5 mill a year from Saints
Saints have to offer that much to get anyone to look at them.

Marvel tenant.
No marquee games.
Zero success.
