If he plays again it will be a huge bonus for us. I think he'll be back to training this week with a view to playing finals. Some say he's played his last game for us, I'm not so sure
This whole "fit to play" question over Bobby..... are we talking more about mental fitness than physical fitness?

I find it hard to believe that an elite athlete can lose so much physical fitness over 4-5 weeks, especially if that athlete has at least done a base level of running/fitness training over that period. Its not like Bobby would have stacked on tons of weight and is now struggling to haul it around the park. Surely he has enough residual fitness to at least fulfil a sub role, if not a full match? But then I would also have expected him to have played VFL, which obviously didn't happen.

So, I'm left with the conclusion that either his head is a debilitating mess at the moment, or perhaps (but hopefully not) the club is effectively sanctioning him for not maintaining team standards in terms of missing training sessions despite being declared fit to train?

Hopefully Bobby puts this all to rest by completing all sessions this week and being named for Friday night.

It could be a mixture of physical and mental issues. We'll find out more this week

Genuine question - Unless he has been smashing the beers and burgers, can a professional footballer really lose so much physical fitness over 4-5 weeks, especially having already banked six months' worth of high level training and matches?

Probably not but they lose the ability for repeat efforts over and over. Their opponents would pick up on it and run you into the ground. The overall fitness wouldn't lose much.

as a non professional that used to regularly go to the gym - you lose fitness very fast if you stop doing it. So yes, I would think a professional and the work they have to put in to keep their body at that elite level, would probably even moreso feel the effects of missed sessions (and mainly for Bobby - missed games).

That's my unprofessional opinion. Why I am one of leading physicians at Manicpie's Medical Centers! Right manicpie?

See folks, this is why at Manics Medical Centres we have the very best doctors in Australia. Kes goes above and beyond Google doctor but not too much because we pride ourselves on that. Expect a little extra in your pay this week Kes.

Hill won’t play this week, or the final(s), and likely not for Collingwood again. Sad state of affairs, but he’s not in the club’s good books. Disappointing because he’s the EXACT player we need to kick a score and do any damage in September.

Us members are being sold lies and deflections. All will come out in the wash eventually I would think. Just a shame. A Norm Smith medallist in a glorious premiership year, and two years later, this.

feels like this is the case now to me - that Bobby has played his last game for us. Hope that's not the case - he's not easy to replace! Just feels like something has gone wrong now. He was tracking for a return - did the VFL game. Sub for Brisbane. Then strange gastro story, and now this week, didn't play VFL even. Something gone wrong since he was sub against Brisbane.

Also strange that the club took him to Adelaide as a non-emergency when he could’ve played VFL

apparently he didn't go - that was just the report from Tom Morris or someone, that he would travel. But then reports say he didn't. Who knows. A lot of smoke and mirrors going on. I'm expecting an announcement whenever our season ends, that he's requested a trade.

He doesn’t look anything like Willy Rioli around the middle.
Physically, I think Bobby is fine.

I don't understand why he and the club wouldn't have sat down and agreed that he gives 100% this season and then they would look at a trade end of year. Is it a case that he feels by not turning up he will force teh club into a trade?

I really have no idea what strange things are going on. Very disappointing.

Sorry but I can’t link any loss this year to any single player. Too simplistic. Ironically it’s Freo draw last year that cost us a spot in the finals
With any loss of less than a goal, every single player would recognise a situation in that game where they could have made up that difference. Thrashings? Different story - not attributable to one instance.

You need to think a little more clearly about this.
If the club wants to keep whatever is going on with Bobby out of the media (and you will recall it was said to be personal), then we the members are not going to know either as a consequence of that.

Well, he signed a contract extension, so I hope we hold him to it if we don’t get a great trade deal - just as Geelong did with Tim Kelly. A year later they got a better deal and let him go. It’s professional sport and these players know what they signed up for.

I’m sick of us losing great/good players at firesale prices - Witts, Stephenson, Treloar, Grundy, Henry,… Enough!

There’s smart people working at Collingwood. Any scenario you contemplate will already have been considered.

I'm setting up a chtgpt clinic to rival you:

📉 What happens after a month off?

  • Detraining starts quickly: VO₂ max, muscle strength, tendon stiffness, and neuromuscular coordination all begin to decline after ~2 weeks of inactivity.
  • After 3–4 weeks off, athletes often lose a noticeable amount of conditioning, which means muscles and connective tissues are less prepared for high loads.

📈 Injury Risk on Return

  • Studies in team sports (e.g. soccer, rugby, AFL) show that returning too quickly after a break can increase soft-tissue injury risk (hamstrings, calves, groin).
  • One sports science review found that players who had ≥28 days without structured training were up to 2–3x more likely to sustain a muscle injury in the first 2–4 weeks back, compared to players who maintained baseline conditioning.
  • The risk is particularly high if training intensity is resumed at pre-break levels without gradual build-up (“spike in workload”).
