Last one for the regualr season.

4 wins.

4 more wins will do it.

Do we turn up and bury them or is really just a "get thru and take the 4 points and hope for no injuries." type arrangement

But we must get the 4 points.

Tigers gave up 53 touches to Cheezels last week. Have they checked out or will they have a dip. Lets face it, Richmond since about 1987 havent had a dip with the exception of 3 years around 2017 so its unlikely - we just dont want a banana peel game.

The crowd wont be an issue as all their fans have pretty much crawled back under their rocks and the only ones left are the 16 that post on the Main board and the KFC red head bloke. Might be more seagulls that Tiger fans actually.

Maybe give Henry, Blitz or Stanley an extra week to get right - or perhaps Close or Holmes a longer break to cherry ripe themselves.

Tigers will have a dip and try a meow. They'll have some drums too. Maybe mroe drums than supporters.

Anyway... does Clohesy, Duncan, Bews, Stevens get a rip?

Go Catters

Vlastuin is a big loss for Richmond down back. They're very light on for experience as it is.

Can't see any players being rested given that we roll into the finals off a pre finals bye anyway. I think C Scott showed his hand the last few weeks and basically what we've seen is our best side we can put on the park. Bowes to get a full game and someone else will get a turn in the sub vest - maybe Martin or Humphries

Difficult balancing act managing players when there's already a bye before finals coming up.

Blicavs is probably the one that might need a rest although he's a machine that just keeps going.

We should probably decide who our 24th player is and get them one more game before finals. Knevitt and Kolo are the 2 obvious choices I'd say.

Watched the reserves on the weekend, with the only player you could consider giving a game to in saying good bye was Bews.

Duncan maybe a close second, who competed well, but got a shoulder stinger and I’m unsure we can trust him to last the full game if required.

Kolo and Guth are solid no’s at this point.

With Henry having hamstring tightness last week and subbed out early this week i would consider giving Bews a game

Especially as he didn't play at any level this week and it would be prudent to have him match fit just in case.
Jack Henry is fine. Just subbed out early as a safety precaution once the game was iced.

Bews is a handy back up but that's all he is. Same for Duncan and Guthrie. Duncan wouldn't be the worst sub, albeit he doesn't really give us much extra run if needed.

Farewell game for bews i hope him or Duncan might get wheeled out one last time this week.
I do wonder if we consider managing stanley-now that Conway is stuffed Rhys has to get through another month-but nankervis is a good opponent so we might just play him and sub him at 3/4.

Can't see them resting Stanley. He'll continue to work in tandem with Blicavs and they'll carefully manage his time on ground.

I don't get the whole fascination with these so called farewell games.

We're up to our necks in it this year with a chance to win another flag. Romance goes out the window unless you're a club not in finals contention. Personally I think guys like Bews / Duncan / Guthrie etc have been great servants of our club, but you're either best 22 or you're not.

All we need is the 4 points and a comment from a cats player that he puts the current form down to the farms we have and the easier draw.

Just so that 'groupie' dude has a conniption.

Not the worst idea to give next in line a game with no more VFL
Especially if someone has a niggle

Id be happy to do that ..although I'm not keen on messing Sdek around …so who gets the ruck role. Blitz ? Couldn’t spring a surprise could we?

Whats Kolo’s form been like ..any chance of a just in case game?

Kolo has looked good but rusty but he has played 2 games on managed minutes he is only coming in if we have injuries imo

The First Look: A Chance to Secure a Home Qualifying Final

Geelong heads to the MCG in the final round of the home away season to take on Richmond, with plenty on the line heading into September

The Cats officially booked their spot in September on Sunday with a dominant victory over Sydney, but there is still plenty to play for as attention turns to a clash with Richmond in the final round of the home and away season.

It is as simple as win and secure a home final for Geelong, a victory over the Tigers would lock in a top two spot and would see the Cats host a Qualifying Final at the MCG in the first week of September.

There are still a number of scenarios that can play out in the final round of the regular season, with second down to seventh on the ladder separated by one game and percentage at the end of Round 23.

Check out all the major details ahead of Geelong's clash with Richmond at the MCG on Saturday afternoon, proudly presented by Villawood Properties.

KEY DETAILS

2025 AFL Season - Round 24

Richmond v Geelong Cats
MCG, Melbourne
Saturday August 23rd, 4.15pm (AEST)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Geelong: Jack Martin

Looking likely to be a real X-Factor for the Cats heading into September, Martin is continuing to build a strong second half of the season and has had a big impact since making the move into Geelong's forward 50.

With Jeremy Cameron well held on Sunday, Jack Martin stepped up and performed strongly finishing with two goals, two goal assists and an equal game-high nine score involvements, looking a class above every time he got the footy.

Martin has now kicked eight goals and dished off five goal assists across his last four games, forming a very strong trio alongside Cameron and Shannon Neale which will test any of the competition's best defensive units.

Richmond: Jacob Hopper

Hopper has been ultra consistent for Richmond in 2025, continuing to find plenty of the footy each week and providing leadership amongst a young Tigers team.

Out of his 22 games for the season, Hopper has only been held under 20 disposals on one occasion and currently sits 19th in the AFL for total disposals this year, while also sitting 16th in the competition for total clearances.

Hopper finished with 27 disposals and six clearances on the weekend despite the loss to North Melbourne, showing that his standards have not diminished despite the season nearing its conclusion.

RECENT HISTORY - Geelong v Richmond

Geelong have started to gain the ascendancy in this matchup, chalking up their fifth win in the last six contests when they defeated the Tigers in Round 17 this year.

The five victories have come by an average winning margin of 41 points for the Cats, with the only tight contest coming in a famous 2022 clash, when Jack Henry kicked a match-winner late in the game.

Richmond did claim victory in the most recent clash between the two sides at the MCG, but with a spot in the top two on the line for Geelong this weekend, expect them to come out firing on Saturday afternoon.

VENUE HISTORY - MCG

Geelong have not stepped onto the hallowed turf at the MCG for a while, but their record paints a nice picture in 2025 with three wins from four games at the venue, including victories over Finals contenders in Collingwood and Hawthorn.

Historically, the Cats season record at the MCG has always been a good indicator of their premiership hopes, winning a combined 28 of 30 games at the venue between 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2022.

If Neale gets a pre-finals rest, is it Ollie that gets a reprieve or do we give a late late season debut to Polk or Molier?

Geelong’s breakout star Shannon Neale could be handed a one-week ban for a hit on Sydney’s Jake Lloyd ahead of the Cats’ must-win clash with Richmond.

The MRO will assess a high bump in Sunday’s Geelong victory where Neale took his eyes off the ball and elected to hit Lloyd high.

The AFL will review the incident across Monday before coming to a decision but a medium-impact hit would see him rubbed out for a week.
