Swans have a history of chasing gun forwards. It is their biggest current hole. Their candidates are ā€œalmostā€ types and haven’t consistently performed. Plugger, Big bad Barry, Buddy, they have a history.

Not sure how they get a deal done though, role players don’t get it done.
It'll be up to the Swans to find 2 top 10 picks for Charlie.
I don't want a fringe player deal. But he's the one asset that we could most afford to lose if it could be converted into a fast, young X- Factor forward and also a similar wingman with elite delivery.
Are Mitch Marsh or The Big Gruwzewski a viable long term plan?

No we don’t have to.

Charlie played like a guy who didn’t have a pre-season and you could tell all season he wasn’t right. Making him the scapegoat of our problems is wrong and lazy.

For us to move forward we need to address our needs by making smart decisions, we need to bring in fresh assistants who will update the game plan to a modern style and we need to build around our elite players while also keeping them fit. The answer is not trading Charlie, Walshy, Harry, Crippa or Weiters.

Good clubs don’t do that.

Keep making excuses for them... reality is, they've got us nowhere and they're almost out of their prime...

Like we’ve said in the past it starts with Errol.

Carlton does not need to top up its list with more mediocrity. We have more than enough of that already.
Yep, I cringe when media and posters throw up handfuls of fring players from other teams. There is the odd hidden gem to be found languishing behind a coach’s bias, but there is usually a reason blokes don’t get games.

It might be a ā€œpoorā€ draft, but it is still the most likely place to find quality players. Clubs and fans just have to give them a year or two to develop.

who makes us bettter IF Charlie goes to Sydney.
Keeping in mind we still havent replaced Owies and some of the supporters lost it when he left.

There should be a new focus at Carlton on developing young Players to be the best they can be ... a bit like how some teams have average lists with few Stars where the Coaches get the most out of them. (eg Richmond, Geelong)

Could start with improving their skills, especially if they have a weakness .. ie good Player but poor kicking .. or poor awareness, endurance etc. I can't see why Coaches can't turn a B Grader into B+
From what I hear ... Carlton have been very poor at developing Players .. time to finally tick that box

No ā€œstarā€ is walking in through the doors at PP for 2026. We will be limited to bringing in role players/solid citizens/draftees. That’s regardless of who walks out.

I'm not sure about many others. But I'm a little excited about TDK, SOS and possibly Charlie leaving, face it, this year, TDK and Charlie haven't really set the world on fire (this year), and SOS has been good this year, but a bit underwhelming overall.

Lets see what we get back and what we do with it. There are so many possibilities.

I feel that we've been missing some pieces over the last few years and hopefully we can address that over the next 4 months (NGAs and Harry), then the inclusion of a jet mid/fwd next year in Cody. It's exciting. New coaching group, new HoF. The future is (hopefully) bright.

It'll be a bloody interesting next 4 months. But I'm chips in on this new regime and will ride all the bumps.. because lets face it... I love this club.

Well we are certainly not trading him for role players/solid citizens/draftees.

If the return is sufficient, I believe we are in the position to absorb the loss of Charlie.

Absolutely he remains our most talented player. His best is phenomenal. We don’t see it often enough. Until finals, his back end if ā€˜23 was arguably the best run of form shown at the club since Kouta. Injury and attitude have impacted considerably. Only those on the inside can speak to his commitment going forward.

If Harry remains fit, he is as good as any spearhead in the competition. We have Hudson O’Keeffe developing quickly, but is still only 20 years old a baby as a ruck or key forward. Skull has a significant ceiling and will be ready for a full season of AFL footy as a forward/ruck in 2026. Brodie Kemp has a five goal haul playing as a target after initially being deployed in a negating role during his five game cameo up forward, his speed and athleticism somewhat rivals Charlie, so can absolutely offer a legitimate alternative structurally. Then we have Ashton Moir who has given us some great cameos to date and has given us genuine hope he will reach the heights he promised in his ā€œunderageā€ year.

Admittedly we have not had all fit together, but the list dynamic being moved to McKay at 28yo, Kemp 24/25 and a pair of 21yo’s in Moir and O’Keeffe gives us a spectacular progression. 29yo Charlie with his injury history in tandem with Harry as a key forward combo means we will hit a point that we lose both player simultaneously down the track.

Our team needs upskilling in a couple of areas, a hypothetical haul of three or even four high first round picks and an end of first or second rounder for JSOS gives us the opportunity to add high class types rather than speculative, fringe or journeyman types.

There are arguments supporting cashing in a key forward for picks or a pick and players when there are sufficient tall options to ā€œreplaceā€ him with a couple likely to benefit from opportunity they may not get if he stays around. It is absolutely dependent on Charlie’s commitment. If, as strongly rumoured he is desirous of a move, it makes some sense to consider accommodating.

This feels true but suspect Luke Power's influence is starting to shine through (these things don't happen overnight)

Matt Carroll, Hudson O'Keeffe, Lachie Cowan, Ollie Hollands, Ashton Moir, Harry O'Farrell, Cooper Lord all gradually developing in the right trajectory.

Your're right though, an accelerated player development program should be an area we heavily resource. Next mission is to maximise the talents of the Campo twins.

Therein lies the problem. I don’t see how we’re going to be satisfied in any trade deal for Charlie.

28 year old key forward that’s contract should net you a huge return. But my prediction is we won’t be satisfied in any deal because a Gulden, Larkey or Warner won’t be coming back the other way.

Think people are overstating what we could possibly get for Charlie.
No chance we're getting 2 first rounders + a player.

I posted previously, I've heard from a good source that Sydney is coming hard for him and that their first rounder + Logan McDonald was being floated.

McDonald doesn't do it for me, but i'd suggest there would be a nice B+ grader we could get along with their first rounder.

Clubs know Charlie's knee is cooked. 3 knee operations in 1 season.

I'm with you it is exciting, if i look at it another way, us supporters will always try to find the light through the tunnel, the hope that things will change. It is frustrating that we are here again looking for that and hoping once again.

But having said that, yeah I am pretty excited myself

100% with you - this is where we should be investing every single dollar we can as it’s where our next premiership team will come from.

In 3 years time you want HOF, HOK, Smith, Carroll, Cowan, Moir, Dean, Walker at a minimum pushing on to become stars/very good players.
