I know the opposition wasn’t the best tonight, but they have been having a red hot go.
I thought our game today was more run and carry through the middle and our best ā€˜uncontested no’s.’ for the year. šŸ‘
Some of the handball exchanges where great, but the one that stands out, was the 1st quarter handball out the front of the pack to Cripps from Williams. Ignored all players in close proximity but hit the most dangerous offensive one outside the pack and in doing so, released our slowest midfielder and made him look like Judd. :thumbsu: As I keep saying, you don’t need pace to play the game the right way.

Just going to highlight these guys, as they just showed their value - Cowan, Olllie, Motlop Carroll and (Evan’s.šŸ˜‚)
McMahon is a huge loss, 2 possessions and subbed at 3qrt time. As I said, doesn’t like body and contest.:p:rolleyes:

Thank goodness this season is over.

Last quarter, Durdin to Motts, back to Durdin, back to Motts who peeled back into the centre and dropped it on the chest of one of our smalls in front of goal, he could have hit up White just as easily.it’s been a long while since we’ve seen run through the middle of the ground like that. And it was the d50 clearance from Evans who sent them on their way.

What happened to all the tossers who were bagging out our own players over in the game day thread? Came in, spewed their vile bullshit and then ****ed off after we won. While it was a lackadaisical sort of game, some of the players they were maligning never stopped running and trying.

I must be coming at this from a different angle because i thought there were a lot of positives that came
Out of this game.

Regardless of the opposition’s quality it’s giving our younger guys exposure to senior footy and being at the
Start of a change in game style to a faster paced transition style.

Moir, oh boy.
HoK, can’t wait until he gets another two pre-seasons in him. Has speed, can take a grab and can kick.
Billy; seemed lost until about half way through the night and then it clicked. Shame this is the last game, he would
Of benefited from a few more home and aways.
Carroll: Getting better and more confident by the game. Fights with passion and effort and is really starting to use that left
To attack the game.
F Young: Coming along really well. Very neat skills, has speed and can finish either on the run or on set shot. Doesn’t mind laying a tackle too.
Jesse: Needs to be kept up around the ball going forward, that’s his best spot. Looks to have got more lean muscle vs the mass he had earlier in the season and has really good speed now.
White: Needs to be kept and developed, used as a wing and forward. Has serious speed and can deliver by foot at speed. Can lay a great tackle too.
Cow: A foundation of the next gen players coming through.
Forgot Ollie. Would like to see him as a high half forward, think we can find someone better at his current role than him.

Edit: How could I not add Francis, man that kick is the real deal.

Older heads:

Williams is a very good footballer, we just need to keep him healthy.
Mr dependable N Haynes.
George, Walshy and Crippa.
Yes Harry, keep it simple just get involved.

The above stood out to me tonight, promising signs i hoping.

Good win, good spirit, good signs.

A training drill type match with a lot of space.

When the pressure and heat arrive early next season, we're cooked again with what we have.

Satisfied with winning though...frustratingly, we have a list that was better 4 years ago and has been deconstructed to mean rebuild soon.

A pleasing thing is that we're becoming bit of a bogey team for *.

They've only beaten us once this decade in 2023, and we went on that run culminating with a prelim final appearance afterwards.

Long may this continue when the Bombers are down keep them down!

Averaging 15.5 touches, over 4 tackles and almost 3 goals a game over the last month!
Frankie is showing the type of small forward that can bring pressure and importantly can kick goals, something we’ve lacked for a while.

I must admit I was initially unimpressed with the recruitment and performances of Evans and Haynes earlier this year. But they’ve won me over and become very good players for the club.

Is Frankie a flash in the pan or something to look forward to?
A little birdie aka Wickzki told me he had some very good mentoring late in the season from a couple of blokes named Hogg and Rice. Seems the bloke who impressed so much in pre season to obtain an SSP spot ahead of Wil White and the talls, which had most of us scratching our heads, just needed some tips to transform track form to game day performance. Like others, I took some convincing, but absolutely looks the real deal.

Frankie Evan's last month has been outstanding. Goal kicking, decision making, skills and positioning have all be elite.

Tonight, each time the heat came from essendon in the second half, he stood up and made things happen. His goal kicking has also been excellent.

I am super impressed. We definetly found a permanent forward half, wing player.

The guy is a sponge who has earned every opportunity that he's gotten. I'm sure most of the boys had a chat with the premiership players from their time at and around the club recently. Pertinent questions perhaps or just some choice wisdom. Frank not the only one who came away from that experience for the better.

Must admit I was wrong about Frank...thought it was a terrible decision to draft him and a worse one to play him. He's surprised me with his form.

The good thing about him is his game seems sustainable. Built on hard running, good pressure and he seems like an excellent kick. Things we've been missing.

Also happy that Motlop has improved in the midfield. Still don't think he's an on-baller, but he's good value to rotate through the midfield. Still needs some work on his disposal but some promising signs.

And hopefully someone gets in Walshie's ear that he's not Crippa...he can't rip through tackles the same way so he needs to take the first or second option...not the 4th or 5th.

And some of our young blokes need a really solid pre-season in the gym.

Couple of pet dislikes.

Why are so many people spelling Frank's surname as Evan's?

It's not William's, Holland's, Hayne's, Cripp's or Acre's, so where did this apostrophe come from?

The stupid "woooo" in the song has died right off since certain players got injured (one sheepish offender last night). If next year we hear, "Good old Collingwood forever, wooooo", it will confirm my suspicions.

That might just be why I never read the game day thread, a bizarre mix of over the top adulation and toxic criticism.
