Hotton could be an absolute gun. I'm going very early and from way out but I think he could end up one of the best players from that draft. High frames per second like vision.
Yeah I had Hotton as the best player in the draft, so certainly wouldn’t have been disappointed but I guarantee saints or dees would have tried a bid to force the trade. The risk just wasn’t worth it which is why Ablett was such an idiot.

There was also a ridiculous school of thought to keep the pick and trade it at the draft despite the significant risk that no one bites and you essentially get nothing for it or absolutely cents on the dollar.

I would have thought trading picks on draft night can increase their value - some clubs have given up a ridiculous amount to get a player. Stocker, Whitlock etc.

I think it would depend on the context. If we were desperately ringing around trying to trade a pick after an early bid on Kako there's a good chance we'd get lowballed

Looking at what happened I think Norths f1 and f2 might have been doable. Probably got better value.

In normal circumstances where the alternative is you just keep the pick and pick someone, then sure.

But there was real jeopardy in us not taking full toll of the ability to get the academy player in AND retain a first round pick.

In the Whitlock scenario if North don’t full send it, Richmond just keep the pick and pick a player.

100%.

We have done pretty well. It will look even better if we nail the pick.

The Bombers have exchanged this year’s pick No.9 and a future third-round selection, receiving picks No.28, 40, 46, 54, 65 and a future first-round selection from Melbourne in return.

Let’s be honest…we made out like bandits in this trade.
✅got the dynamic small forward we needed
✅we went into trade period with hardly any mid range picks but ended up being able to pay for Kako and get Gus Clarke and a few other promising players in a stacked draft
✅allowed us to trade with Brissy which then meant we could do some win-win trades with the Saints including getting their 2nd this year

Our best trading since the 1990s by a mile

Sorry, I thought you were talking about sending one of this year's picks out.

Steven May has been told to find another club.

Can we trade for their 2026 first round pick and go again?

Would double down and death ride the Dees again to revel in both of our poo-nesses
Until we can rise out of this era of mediocrity I think it’s a good idea to death ride every year until we win a final. It gives us supporters something else to focus on. I didn’t know what I was missing until this year. This thread turned out way better than I was expecting.

Yep 100%.

The thought of death-riding Hawthorn next year is likely a lot more disappointing (due to their likely success) but overall the potential for the pleasure to be more immense.

I don't mind Melbourne, so whilst their sucking was still enjoyable for our benefit this year, the enjoyment ended there. But the potential benefits of embracing any Hawthorn loss even further? It's certainly something to cling to.
