Based on the Crippa go home for family reasons factor, and Charlie wants 'outa town' to surf, and throwing everything at the Butters/Reid Premiership reset

Based on the premise that we don't need the two big forwards, that HOK/Pitto/Reidy take the ruck, Kemp returns to Def to sort JSOS' position, that Butters and Reid combined with Walsh, Jagga, George, Cera, Lord et al is bona fide A Grade Midfield with serious Premiership credentials.

For a team like Sydney, they will play finals next year with a Curnow and he will catapult them to top 4, so I expect a second and a player such as McDonald as well.

Saints have to get an AA ruckman out if TDK with about 22+ high quality games a year for 4-5 years for this money to be worth it. They will also require multiple top 4 finishes and a premiership for this to be deemed successful. Within the next 2-3 years if nothing improves, particularly their bottom 3rd of the list (they still rely heavily on a defensive cheat in Wilkie and an aging MaCrae). TDK won’t be playing well into his thirties.

I truly expect him to blow his body up early with the pressure he will under from the club and the supporters. Or he could go the other way and take it easy like he has for us the past 3 months. The competitive best we saw for 4-5 rounds last (and that’s all it was) may actually be gone. He will want the longevity of his body to ensure he keeps getting paid. There is zero movement in this price tag for saint kilda either. Being that’s it’s a free agent. We’ve seen how SOSs contracts for McGovern, Williams and Saad snd probably more hamstrung the club and they sold in comparison.

Yeah that's a good point Coona. My issue with Tom is & has always been his disposals after he wins the ruck/clearance. Absolute ruckman by hand & foot.

Tend to agree, but if comes up as a salary dump for a couple of years while HOF rehabs and Dean develops it probably becomes an attractive proposition. Reckon we have enough strength to cope on a sunset deal. His IP in an abbreviated block couldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.

One option which could be explored. Short term gain, no long term pain. We don’t need depth with the two high quality (maybe generational) youngsters ready to step up from 2027. Maybe better options present.

Like I said earlier... the AFL aren't going to invent some mythical band 1+ tier compo pick...

As much as we wish that to be the case, it isn't gonna happen...

Best we could possibly hope for, is given JSOS is probably leaving too and compensation is calculated by net loss, the combination of TDK + JSOS's new contracts gets us two band 1 picks so we end up with pick 10+11 (assuming Draper leaves * as well, they'll get band 1 compo for him, pushing our pick back another spot).

But even that is more wishful thinking...

What it does mean if we bring a free agent in we may still end up with van 1 because the TDK deal is so maasive

Even if he does, it’s still negligent to pay that much to a ruck. Even the best ruck in the comp.
