Shanahan projecting very good.
Reid a rare case. There is no reid in this draft
Ginbey in his third year as a defender, not a mid. That may well change.
Maric !! Really

Warners better than all of those 4 and anyone else on our list for that matter
This Duursma does look by far and away the best of the lot.

I couldn't understand the love for the others but he looks to have elite traits

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we can use all spots on the main list as we have the minimum amount of rookies (4) ?

Tmac
Newton
Dewar
Brock

So I think that’s 5 spots .

Petch, Rawlinson, hunt, jamo, allen

Then maybe Liam Ryan makes 6.
I also wonder if someone will offer Tom Cole’s more than 1 year given he is a fa. Which makes 7.
I think Carlton could be Coles best bet as a replacement for Docherty ..

Now correct me if I’m wrong here but part of the reason we find our selves in the shitty position we currently are is because we kept drafting flankers and KPP at the expense of midfielders ?

So the way to rectify that is by drafting:

A flanker - Duursma
A KPP - CDT

🤦‍♂️🤦🏼🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷🤦‍♀️🤦🤦‍♂️🤦

Now when we did draft all those flankers and KPP, the apologists defender our recruiters and made excuses and allowances saying that they didn’t have any high end draft capital to spend on building a quality midfield.

So it’s that’s true, FFS, why would we draft a flanker and a KPP when we hold picks 1 & 2.

I thought when you held such high end valuable picks you stocked up on quality midfielders …….. because that where the best midfields come from - the pointy end of the draft - right ???????

Therefore wouldn’t you think we would have learnt from past mistakes and take a couple of quality midfielders when we hold such good pick and have to chance to do so . 🤷‍♂️

Post half in jest as surely we wouldn’t be so fu(king stupid as to make the same mistakes again…… would we …..??????????????????????????????
I 100% agree with your POV.

I just think it's the stupid shit this club would do.

What would you do if you had the wheel mate?

Assuming we can’t get a satisfactory trade back with Essendon or Richmond.

I would take Sharp and Duursma.

I actually don’t have a problem if we punt on Duursmas upside as he will be a very damaging outside weapon.

If we trade backs and still hold one of pick 1 or 2 then I would like Sharp and Cumming.

The thing is, Barnett was a great draft pick. If my memory serves me right it was quite a steal at the pick we took him, mid-late 20s.

He just... didn't develop. It happens.
Seems to be a mental thing with him. If he's kept on for the final year of his contract, I hope the club invests in a sports psychologist to help him get in the right frame of mind.

With regards to CDT, I can understand why we'd be into him.

We've drafted a few mids recently in Harley, Hewett, Gross, Davis, Hall, Allan, Hutchinson and to some extent Hough, Chesser, Brockman & McCarthy. We've also got a NGA mid to come in. Bringing in two more makes it hard to develop them all without a 2025-esq midfield of kids.

The only other tall being talked about is Shubert, and we don't need any more forwards.

Meanwhile we have no ruck hope on the horizon.
CDT makes a lot of sense (not that I agree with it. I want Duursma & Sharp).
It would be intriguing if we were into him as a potential defender

People really just watched us win 1 game all season, getting monstered in clearance work and stoppage play and don't even want to entertain the idea of trading for Warner? (Not that I think he is actually available after just signing an extension)
All because there's a possibility we can get him much cheaper in two years time?

Ridiculous
I would want to rebuild smartly and effectively rather than short term gains .

As nice as warner would be next year our squad as a whole would be far better if we got warner as a free agent and loaded up on high end talent the next 2 years before Tasmania come in

Rubbish.

I’m going to trust our recruitment team after last years draft. If they view CDT as the top prospect so be it. Having a team of giants with A.Reid and CDT could really terrorise opponents…. If A.Reid learns how to kick straight
If we are being linked to CDT this early it's all misdirection

Those stats were under the old arrangement of playing for a traditional WAFL team ..

And?

Jobe Shanahan had 20 disposals 8 marks in his last WAFL game. He is (was, now 19) a skinny 18 year old and the team lost by 52 points.

People make too many excuses for the Beagles. Yes the list profile sucks with a mix of AFL listed players and essentially ring-ins but we've been fielding up to 15 AFL listed players in some games this year. It's not 2022 any more. Players should be able to go back and outperform their AFL stats easily.

We need to light a fire under Brockman's asse in 2026. Give him the same speach we presumably gave Chesser this year, the gist of which will be "This is it Bro, start performing, start contributing now this year or your career is over, this is your last chance". Next year is his 6th year on an AFL list. Currently he is nothing more than a passenger showing occasional glimpses of talent. Not good enough at this point in his career.

You need a sugar hit do you ?

How would our squad not be better if we got warner for free ?

We would either have an extra top 2 pick or 2 top 10 picks running around on our list
How is a 24yo elite midfielder a sugar hit for us.

reid Hewett Warner ain't a sugar hit. That's Judd cousins kerr territory.

CDT

2025 AFL U18 National Championships (4 games)
14.5 disposals, 4.0 marks, 2.8 tackles, 14.0 hitouts, 0.8 goals

2025 Coates Talent League (3 games)
22.7 disposals, 4.3 marks, 1.3 tackles, 19.7 hitouts, 0.7 goals

Luke Jackson's 2019 U-18 carnival for WA (4 games)

Averages 16 possessions (11 contested), 37 hitouts, four clearances, three tackles, and two inside 50s
So Luke Jackson was a ruck. CDT is not. 37 hitouts a game to 14 at state champs.

PASS.

Priority 1 this offseason is to fix our worst area - Ruck.

If we start the season with no change and the Flynn, Williams, Barnett, A Reid (part-time) combo we will be starting with a similar centre square disadvantage as 2025.

Reidy - I believe he is out of contract, make him a "too good to refuse" offer and walk him to the Pre-Season draft (yes, it still exists despite us not using it in our darkest days).

Reeves - contracted for 2026, will require a trade, our 3rd should get it done.

Both would be instant significant upgrades on our current set-up. We shouldn't be aiming for A-Grade types just a lift in our competitiveness. These two would pay it off straight away.
Ruck is not our worst area!!!

Apart from us needing quality now, the trouble with your argument is that we're no guarantee to get him in 2 years.

It's all pie in the sky stuff anyway.
He isn't leaving Sydney.

They aren't being played the same way though, one of these is a forward who rotates ruck. Jackson was the reverse.

The CDT talk seems more like Cal just assuming since we'll have pick 1&2, we'll take the 2 guys ranked 1&2 on his draft board.

It's kinda lazy but also it's way too early to tell, Duursma you can lock in at 1 though, 2 on the other hand could be anything from Sharp/Cumming/Lindsay to even a trade down.

There's also a decent opportunity to do what Richmond did and have like 4 first round picks this year.

Ruck is not our worst area!!!
I cannot disagree with this any more. It really really really is.
The issue is we have deficiencies in every other area except key forward that it looks even worse.

Because your not willing to wait to get warner for free !

What about Reid Hewett sharpe cumming warner ?
