NO TROLLS Rankine handed a 4 match suspension by the AFL integrity unit for a homophobic slur against opponent

If he gave a public apology straight after the event before it had even sunk in, surely that means less?

**** me some people are almost impossible to.pleae on this, which is why I think no public apology should have been made.
Hey mate - how does it taste?!

Youve been gobbing off in here about how you wanted us. Police escorts for our players.

How does it taste?!

Adelaide did make Rankine the victim to begin with. After they received a result in their favour, only then did their language change.
My bad dude. I thought you were the victim. My apologies for all the stress you've been through and the damage it has done to you.

You can't call someone a bundle of sticks on a footy ground in the heat of the moment ( one word against the other ) , but Daicos can drop the F bomb on live TV in his post game interview but that's all good according the the AFL

Collingwood are my second team but I'm extremely disappointed in whoever dobbed the Adelaide guy in. Totally goes against Australian values...

What's "Australian" values? This will be good

its one game difference, one, The AFL accepted the compelling medical evidence submitted by a medical professional, Rankine has still been sanctioned 4 games, he has apologised and has said he'll seek help to rectify his behaviour. His medical issue may be a joke to you but they are clearly not to him or the AFL

Jack Graham also got 4, his suspension was also reduced due to self reporting 4 days afterwards.

The AFL has reduced the penalty twice now for specific reasons. They make up rules on the spot all the time, which is not necessarily a good thing.

Unfortunately the integrity unit continually leaked information which made the entire situation worse so instead of everything being announced today it's been drip fed through journalists the whole week.

Not having a go, but I would say that a not insignificant part of why the booing was so bad tonight was the complete BS that was the AFL and Crows response that week.

Should never have been up for debate re 4 vs 5, and this is the result you get when you try to litigate different people’s rights rather than just sticking to a precedent that was already well established.

It really wasn’t well established though, it was all over the shop. Collingwood directly benefited by reporting, not sure that sits well with me for the future unless the AFL put everything in writing which they are terrible at.

It's too simplistic to look at it as the number of games of missed. None of the players sanctioned for this 'misdemeanour' have missed finals and potentially the granny so in that sense Rankine's punishment has been much more severe and disproportionate to what's come before.

Why raise it now, though?

I assume if you feel so strongly about finals, you would’ve wanted the AFL to adjust its MRO policy and suspension tables to factor in finals.

If you haven’t posted it until now, then I don’t know that you actually care about it, or just want to downplay Rankine’s actions.

A four-week suspension in the context of the timing in the season is one of the most extreme penalties I have ever seen for any offence. You can clearly see who has actually played the game vs the self-righteous sheep coming out saying 5, 6, 7, 8 games etc.

The lad is missing finals on his first opportunity having spent his career thus far at struggling clubs, surely it is understood how precious that is. If you do not recognise that he has been punished severely enough, you are just sinking in the boots to signal your virtuosity.

Huh?

Are you asking why Rankine didn’t realise how precious it is? Why he might have kept his thoughts to himself 2 weeks before finals?

Baffling.

It is a word. Said to one person.

Rankines life is turned upside down and possibly missing out on a once in a lifetime opportunity when an apology and a 1 week penalty for a first offence would have been plenty. Being offended is a choice.

Thanks for reminding us that not all the dickheads tonight were cheering the Crows.

Finlayson got 3

A few weeks later, Powell got 5.

This year, Graham got 5->4 with self disclosure.

The penalty is 5, 4 with a self-report.

Rankine got 4…. Why?

Sorry dude uncontested findings of the AFL integrity unit do not constitute case law.
I can't help you if you don't understand that.

I don't think anyone could make an argument that the AFL tribunal is consistent...

And I think Graham "self reported" after a period of 9 days or something?

So not sure he got much of a discount for that ..

I'd argue that Moore (was said tonight that he was the one who reported it) was merely standing up for a mate - which last I checked is pretty much as high of an Australian value there is. Each time someone gets suspended for this nonsense the more scrutiny and pressure there is on people to change imo. Keep the suspensions and the discourse coming.
