A day or two after the original incident the ABC had a PR guy on to talk about the Crows' handling of it so far and he said Adelaide have a reputation for being one of the least progressive teams in the competition which was proved last night.

The only time I've ever heard a racial slur thrown out at the footy was at an Adelaide home game.
Was directed at Alwyn Davey, I was only about 16 at the time so didn't cross my mind to report the guy.

A four-week suspension in the context of the timing in the season is one of the most extreme penalties I have ever seen for any offence. You can clearly see who has actually played the game vs the self-righteous sheep coming out saying 5, 6, 7, 8 games etc.

The lad is missing finals on his first opportunity having spent his career thus far at struggling clubs, surely it is understood how precious that is. If you do not recognise that he has been punished severely enough, you are just sinking in the boots to signal your virtuosity.

Arguing the severity of the penalty for all incidents, I could understand (if not accept) the argument.

Arguing the severity for Rankine specifically, as a special case, is where the majority of complaints (including mine) stem from.
Towards the Crows for arguing it, towards the AFL for falling for it, towards the Crows supporters last night for booing a player for calling it out.

Not towards Rankine himself; who has his penalty and now needs to demonstrate that he’s learnt.

Have been assured by Crows fans it had nothing to do with the Rankine incident.
So I’m similarly waiting for a logical reason why they booed him from the first bounce. Given they didn’t do that just 2-3 weeks ago.

It's probably given cause to self reflection in the community. Like in society, every club has people from all walks of life. If focus is just on collingwood for now as their player received the slur.....there'd be supporters who were disgusted by the abuse (X), likewise there'd be supporters and members who feel the slur wasnt a big deal, and suspension was over the top (Y).

Last night and this morning, X's beliefs maintain. Y's may alter slightly in that they are okay with the sledge but are displeased with the booing/treatment of quaynor who was the target of said sledge. Internal conflict.
