When we played them in the Prelim last year we had momentum and belief and Daniher - Hipwood - Payne and Answerth. Tonight we had replacing them Day - Gallop - Gardiner ( who was solid). Add to last year we had a very inform Ah Chee who is currently not half the player he was 12 months ago.

Just too many players out or banged up. I would suggest Lachie is done for the year. Watching him live last night you could tell he wasn't even close to being 100% - more like 60%. Started on bench and played forward at one stage before getting injured. Went to ground a lot more than normal - which is often an indication of a player struggling with injury and strength.

Credit to Cats who were up for it and out worked us all over the ground. Really tore us apart on the spread from turnovers. Poor Froggy had his worst game in a long time. Cameron just dominated first qtr. But we kept him quiet after that.

Rayner goal was crazy. Everyone at the ground had no idea what happened and seeing replay after the game it was soft. The second free kick however has been paid all year and was stupid by Cats player.

You knew after HT they would get every 50/50 call and for most of the second half they did. But they were far too good for us and I think they deserve to be Premiership faves.

We need to get back home and reload. Hippy probably not ready to come back yet, but he was missed last night. Stewart did as he liked. McKenna I would bring in for some pace and X factor. Do we bring big O back and give Fort a rest. I thought Darcy looked tired in ruck last night - he has been good for us this year.

And finally I have said it several times this year and it brings me no joy but Charlie is very lucky to be in the side. After kicking first goal he had one more touch for match. Trying to play for free kicks too much and umps give him nothing anyway. Really worried what lies ahead for Cameron.

Clearly beaten by a faster team. Speed did not allow us to waltz through the midfield and we fumbled through. Our ruck competed but were non dominant. Missed Payne his size and athleticism is invaluable in the back half. Forwards went missing and never on top to ask questions. Thank you Rayner for the break from the Geelong dominance.Coaches will make changes and we go again.

Great summary royboys. I thought they did a great job stopping our uncontested marks and 45 deg kicks through half back. Then when we were forced to bomb it down the line we had no one who could take a contested mark. McCluggage hasn't been tagged like that before and clearly struggled.

We've been playing finals for about 10 weeks now basically and I think it's starting to catch up to us. Said that after a few losses and we've bounced back each time though.

Just wanted to say I hope Lachie recovers well, injuries at this time of the year are the worse and Neale is champion of the game.

Reckon you could do far worse than bringing in Reville, I don’t follow your games that closely but when you came from five goals down to beat us in round 3 he was really instrumental. I like McKenna too, not sure if he’s been injured or just out of favour?

No way some of your stars like Clug, Bailey and Morris are well held again next week. I have no doubt you’ll be back at the G in a fortnight’s time and be a red hot chance against the Pies 👍

Our forward line needs a shake up. Maybe go small I don’t know but it’s clear you can’t play Day, bloke was worse than useless. Gallop isn’t ready. I don’t think McInerney would do any worse than either of those two.

And as mentioned by others, Charlie and Cal, such a strength last year are just liabilities this year. I don’t know what you do there. Neither probably should be in the team but what options do we have to replace them?

Wrong time of year to have such a bad game. I think we can still win next week but Fagan needs to get the selections right more than ever.

I just can't stop thinking our midfield mix is still wrong.

When you have Wash and Bailey playing ostensibly for themselves, Hugh getting ridden into the ground because no one bothers to help out, it leaves Dunks to actually try and shut it down. Geelong waltzed it out of the middle like it was on a string. It's scary when Forty offers more defensive work than half the bloody midfield who run past the ball.

Running Lash through there at times was equally crazy because he's still to sort out his decision making - the hospital handpasses from both Ashcrofts needs a stat of their own. Mind you they weren't alone tonight, we made an art form of giving the ball to players in a worse position. And even Lachie was a repeat offender.

I'm torn on Rayner in the goal square - nothing else worked so I get it but he needs to be the bull in the middle when were getting pantsed more then less. If we can't win the ball he's just wasted.

Injuries have killed us no doubt. But geez there are a few players who are having so little impact in crucial moments - have done for a while - it's no wonder we got rolled tonight. Finals pressure shows up the players out of form and we have a few.

To be fair I sort of expected this result... but holy geez it still sucks bad.
Couldn’t agree more with the midfield mix
Levi just not there in terms of defence or decision making
Even on the wing
Bruce or marshal has to come in for that spot
I would bring both in tbh
We missed Bruce’s penetration
It’s a shame Rayner didn’t get that snap from the pocket, beat two players with agility and strength just to get the shot
In my mind would have been goal of the year.
The forward line is a problem without hippy
I would say Bruce would have been handy in there
Also McKenna would be interesting
So I think we go in the same next week we deserve to get flogged , Fages has to be brave.
I’m not content with our mix at all.
too many times we look for the one two handballs in our team , reserve grade stuff.
sorry Levi has to work on his game in the seconds . His style atm is just not working in the middle or wing.
Not great work from Fages if I’m being honest.

We can still win next week but gee we're banged up this year. That loss will have hammered our confidence. I can't see us having 3 games of high level footy in us from here on out to win it.

Geelong fans giving it to Rayner as you would expect. Thankfully their lovechild Dangerfield has never flopped in his career for a free kick :)
My Geelong "mates" were so fired up, sending borderline abusive messages. They went feral last night.

We lost. It happens. I was at the game, along with the regular Victorian fans and those who travelled from interstate and it was a tough night. Geelong supporters are insufferable and that rubbed salt into the wound.

BUT I’M NOT READY TO GIVE UP ON THESE LIONS 🦁

I thought Chris Fagan’s press conference after the game was FANTASTIC. He was honest, gracious about Geelong and most important of all, calm. Geelong were HOT last night and we were off our game. It happens and Fagan knows that. No need to panic. He was obviously disappointed, but he dug in and dug deep and exuded a positive focus about what we learned and what we can address for next week.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started watching the press conference, but I liked what I saw.

Looking forward to booking my tickets for the coming Preliminary Final against Collingwood in a couple of weeks.

We hurt their feelings when we stole their premiership last year.

What about "Jezza" the Champion All-Australian Captain and his dirty cheap shots, one on Starcevich by the boundary, another on Dunkley, both of them aimed at and hitting the jaw, neither of them pinged.
Is that the same champion “Jezza” that put our captain in hospital with a brain bleed a few years ago after a massive dog shot?

Dirtiest team in the league zero question, and it’s been killing me all year watching the entire media and footy fandom at large suck off one of the most subtle dirty players in a long time.

Chris Scott's discussion with Fox before the game was annoying as well. Potted us for having good younger players, while poor Geelong didn't get many low picks. Ignoring that (1) they benefited hugely from father sons in the past, and (2) many of their key players are high drift picks from other clubs. He is a smart guy and most of the journos are too busy sucking up to him or scared of his intellect to push back. Just like Ross Lyon's nepo baby slur against the Suns. It seems like NSW and Qld teams are just there for revenue and taking players from.

Remind them that Selwood won hundreds of free kicks by ducking his head and Danger has flopped for his entire career. Both are greats of the game.

Scott Pendlebury has played 424 games and Lachie Neale is on 293 games. If you combined their frees for, they've only had 9 more than Selwood did in his 355 games.

His decision making was consistently really really poor.
'really, really poor' is a bit too strong regarding Washy.
Constant pressure like Geelong appiled affects pretty much any player.
And what usually works for you, is suddenly not working
As a player, your decision making has to be impacted and the options you'd normally have, just aren't there.

Well cats played like it was a big final , we didn’t , cats worst player was as good as our best , we have many who should not get a pay check for that effort. No forward line and mids got cut up. No plan B

We didn't even play Plan A last night

Slight shades of 2003 but remember folks we have been virtually playing a final every week for the past 8-10 weeks with our draw and banged up bodies, I still have faith in the boys to get up the for the semi and get back to the MCG in a couple of weeks.
Yeah but, you can't compare the youth and inexperience plus average and out of form players out there last night with the powerhouse team of 2003. Bottom 8 or 9 players wouldn't hold a candle to that side.
