Yet they rewarded multiple ducks by the Throws last night.
It’s both ways - I’m looking overall looking at free kick counts doesn’t include the missed ones

Multiple incorrect disposals by your crew including one hand handballs right in front of goal

It’s bad. For both teams. The standard has dropped across the board.

There were a lot of missed free kicks to Collingwood. I have noticed kicking in danger no longer exists in the AFL this year though. Mihocek stiff not to get one 10m out from goal and then got bumped in the head as well and all play on…

Although letting Collingwood win I’m sure those 4 umpires will get dropped this week.

Worst decision of the year so far…pathetic.

2 worst decisions of all time and no surprise they were to Brisbane, always looked after.

Surprised the umpire was even watching the first one or if he’s just turned and seen a player on the ground and paid a free.

The 2nd one was there - I’d pay it every day of the week - it’s just stupid by Guthrie, no need for it

I look at the player on the ground and tell them to get up.

But it’s interesting the lack of force used there and multiple players bowled over last night with real force after disposal and no free kicks.

It’s about control - let that go and as an umpire - you’re ****ed, anything goes

So. Get over it. The Eagles teams between 1987 and 2018 generally seemed to deal with it reasonably well. Stop looking for excuses. When my team loses I generally accept that, you know, the other team played better.
We dealt with it well because we had some of the best players of all time all on the same list at once. Much easier these days for Vic sides to have a handful of guns and 15 role players and be in the conversation most years.

Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn have very similar list profiles whilst Brisbane, Giants, Freo, and GC are all stacked to the brim with first round (and a lot of top 10) talent.

That right there tells you all you need to know. The bar is far lower for Victorian sides to compete, whilst non Vic sides need stacked lists just to get close.

Great clinical team effort from Geelong, can't think of a player who wasn't at least solid and ultimately the margin should have been greater.

On the Rayner free kicks, while on face value, the O'Connor one was clearly the less justifiable, in a way - and remembering for a moment that the umpires are human - I feel like the Guthrie one was worse.

The umpire's had a chance to see the replay, seen that Rayner's absolutely conned him, made him look like a goose (and perhaps cost him any more finals this year) and then he goes and pays another - at best - very soft one, following an undisciplined response to taunting by the goalkicker. The human, common sense, 'spirit of the game' response there to take the sting out of it would have been a warning to Guthrie and to everyone to cool it. The umpire lost the plot.

You really think umpires look at the replay during a game?

Of course they do, just like players do.

Why wouldn't they? It can't hurt.

They don't. They actually go out of their way not to watch the scoreboard, and they still have to officiate the game even when the game is stopped, so I'm not sure why it's obvious to you.

That's probably the company line, but of course they do, you're kidding yourself thinking otherwise. Players have to play while the game's stopped too, but they all watch the replays on the scoreboard.

False equivalence. Players are not umpires.

The umpire could lose matches after review, if seen to be not officiating the game and watching the scoreboard. Would be a worse offence than making a incorrect decision for an umpire.

Explain the difference between a player watching the replay on the scoreboard and an umpire watching the replay on the scoreboard. It essentially gives them a chance to digest what just happened in a key moment, or to see if what happened in a passage of play they were involved in unfolded the way they perceived it in the moment. Umpires can pick up on borderline tendencies in contests: holds, blocks, jumper pulls. It can clearly help them adapt and make better and more informed decisions aa the game is going.

Cam Rayner got absolutely nothing from the umpires in the second half and got a slightly dodgy one against him for a high tackle. Someone would have had to Byron Pickett him for him to get another free. Gee, I wonder why?

I don't, I've already explained multiple times the umpires don't have time to watch the scoreboard.. Maybe you to learn other people's posts. I've stopped reading yours after this comment.
