Binder... poor bloke

Norwood had a genuine crack. Gave it everything. Tough game
Poor Bloke??

He and Callow miss sitters all the time. For our main two key forwards they can not kick straight.

We should have won that. The second qtr we dominated and couldnt score. When Binder missed i felt like punching the wall. Arghhhh.

1st one down

Sturt’s supreme efficiency catapulted it to its first SANFL U18 premiership in eight years with a stunning 57-point triumph against West Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The Double Blues led at every change and appeared in control of the contest with its neat use of the ball by hand and foot as the Bloods wasted inside 50 entries.

Westies amazingly had 12 more inside 50 entries for the match but only managed two goals for the title-decider as the minor premier piled on the scoreboard pressure with 8.6 to 1.6 in the second half.

Coached by Scott Prebble and captained by Sam White, the Blues’ kicking game held sway as they maintained possession with 56 more marks and 69 more kicks.

Key Sturt defender Blake Thredgold was a fitting winner of the Alan Stewart Medal as best-on-ground, hauling in 12 marks to go with 14 disposals as he dictated terms across half-back.

SA U16 leadership group members Harvey Chapman (21 disposals, nine marks) and Taj Garrett (25 disposals, 12 marks) continued to show great maturity after playing key roles for the Double Blues in defence and on a wing respectively.

Richmond father-son prospect Louis Kellaway was rock solid with 17 disposals, seven tackles, eight marks and a left foot snap goal while Noah Mennillo was a constant danger inside 50 for Sturt with six shots on goal (2.4) from his 17 touches.

Next week

I don't blame Binder, I blame Callow. Most overrated guy in the comp and he plays for my team. I think he is off back to Tassie and he's no loss.

Great guy, the players love him but he cost us again today. He had 7 touches, kicked 0.3 and had 5 frees against. A couple at critical times. He doesn't like to compete either.

Overall I'm proud of the team. We fought hard until the end. We should of won today but I think Sturt would of got us easily next week.

happy to see the u/16 get up and win their grand final. laurence andriani looks an absolute star, best and fairest in the u/16's and best on ground today. averaged an insane 35 touches per game across the season.

Callow also missed a late goal that would’ve sealed the game at Unley.

You're right, both side blew set shots, particularly Norwood.
The Ling run down got Glenelg back into it.
Norwood better side on the day but wasted tons of chances, but Glenelg with better forwards were more efficient.

Light at the end of the tunnel for Westies?

16s premiers, 18s runners up

yeah maybe. the club sent out an email today and while confirming bassett for 3 seasons, also said that our ceo merry go round continues as our latest one has quit after a few months.

the hardest thing with the juniors at westies has been turning them into consistent league footballers. you have the guys who are incredible talents like rankine and thilthorpe who get games at 16 but you know they're out at 18. then there's those star juniors who get maybe a game or 2 before being drafted, if that. our issue is having a core league side of talented players from our programs and zones.

The CEO's keep quitting because the club is insolvent. Shouldn't be operating. No-one wants to put their name and career to that!
Staggering that Bassett would go there. From what I heard pretty much everyone coaching at Westies is a 'volunteer' at the moment.

SANFL should get Sue Dewing in

I just hope its the boost Westies need

Hoping this is the right thread to ask this - any here used their SACA membership for SANFL finals entry? I'm going on Sunday and don't know how it works since they haven't issued the new membership cards yet. Can't find anything on the SACA website about it except hospitality options.

Just scan your membership card at the entry the same as if you're going to a cricket game.
