Hot Topic Michael Voss - Coaching in 2026. Should he remain beyond that?

He’s been there 3 years and it’s turned to crap since mid way through last season and progressively got worse under his watch.

Got a little bit of relief late in this season playing young enthusiastic types but it’ll be short lived.

Brisbane lions coaching days all over again.

Appears cook groomed GW nicely to keep Voss around and build around him.

Big mistake.

2 players have left in free agency - one for money, one running home to daddy - and one going out (potentially) through trade. How is this anything like Brisbane?

We heard there were plenty of players not happy this season and still may not be but time will tell in the end...

And its not just about who leaves or stays.

Our performances have gone downhill since mid way through last season and as the head coach he has not been able to rectify the situation.

We know he isn't much good technically...

And as a man manager whether with players or assistant coaches he has been over whelmed with the task at hand.

Yeah we "heard" a lot of things this season. We heard he was sacked an hour before he was backed. "Wright doesn't rate him". "Board approved, he's gone". "Walsh leaving". "Cripps leaving".

Time has told.

The decisions made by Wright have suggested he has questions over the list and attitudes of players and leaders within the group. And that the previous administration failed to surround him with adequate support

Just maybe there was some conjecture over what was our issue(s). The club was not keen to wear the cost of sacking another coach in contract and copping the soft cap tax (we may have already copped a decent hit with Jack Russell).

A bit each way on Voss, hoping a different group of assistants may gel. The kids seem to be behind him, with only a few old hands seen as being divisive.

Time will tell. I do think there was a considerable financial element in the decision. Think we will have a year or two of resetting around a very under rated bunch if kids. (Recruiting has been under rated)

Time will tell on Voss future. We’ve backed Voss in for now and gone down another path that we haven’t before, in putting the acid on the players and bringing hopefully better support assistance wise.
We’ll know early in the season how it plays out. If we don’t get the wins on the board, then it will probably be bad news for Voss.
I’m hoping it all works out tho.

While this is true enough, I dunno... seems to be a bit of a stench about the place currently.

Reckon next year will see more of the same and Voss gone by mid to late year, hope I'm wrong but don't think I will be :(

If youre referring to when Voss said its a reset in he SEN interview, I think you'll find he meant a reset in player attitude as opposed to a rebuilt of the list.
Yes I know what he meant. The term is being thrown about by mulptiple people. Has he considered maybe he might need a reset in his coaching attitude, that was my point...he seems to be pretty pigheaded, stubborn.. perhaps a little overbearing maybe. Negative in game style also..That's what I'd like to know, seems to be no accountability on the coaching being mentioned.
Surely he's been told to focus on a more attacking fast direct game style that players want to play.
Did wonders for Hardwick to step back and do some critical analysis on his input the off season before they came good.

Two players who have left have done very well. Kennedy left due to an exit meeting with Vossy. The other couldnt get on the park under russell but now plays every game with Geebung!

That is two for two in where we cant blame the players. Next season we are going to see how JSoS and TDK go elsewhere.

I suspect the ones that should be gone will probably stay on at the club defeating the purpose of blaming the players.

JM has played 11 games at the Cats this year including 1 final.

Didn’t play for the 1st 12 rounds.

That is because the Cats managed him the right way. We rushed him back every time in desperation like indigenous round where he was underdone.

Lets see JSoS and TDK go shall we. Remember JSoS the previous contract on this board, most were like get rid of him because he no good.

He had a calf injury. So no different to when he was with us

So you are saying Russell did a great job then because that is what the media and AFL general community are indicating about Geelong's team and getting him right.

Definitely a supporter in alignment with the current Carlton regime. An agent for more of the same then.

Martin’s stats this year pretty much mirror that of his career…….
If he plays the next two finals he meets his games per season average of 13 throughout his career.
Statistically all other indicators line up closely with career averages.
Let’s not let narrative cloud facts here.
If Jack & Geelong get through the next two games and snag a flag, if Jack gets through another pre-season, if Jack plays 16-18 games next season and his career averages reflect career best numbers…..
Then kudos should be given to both Jack & Geelong for turning things around.
Until then, it’s just hyperbole.
Don’t let facts be clouded by bullshit. Data doesn’t lie.

If TDK isn’t the best ruckman in the competition next year, then the contract is already a bust. He’s getting paid what Gawn and Grundy are getting paid combined.

People wanted TDK and Jack to stay this year but not for the money they were being offered. Not sure how they go next year is that relevant when we were never getting close to matching the Saints offer for TDK especially and with Jack being UFA we don't have any power at all to hold him. Saints also go and pay ~200K more than we or any other club were willing to and added on an extra year.

The club decided to move on Kennedy/Martin - TDK/JSOS are not the same thing.
