EP got a free kick in the centre of the ground. As they were awarded the free kick the siren went, so a Souths player, thinking they'd won the GF, kicked the ball away in celebration.

I totally agree. The umpires, all of them, shat their pants. A similar thing happened in a Swans game where Warner booted the ball away after the siren and a free was paid (was it Essendon?). No 50 in that case but should have been. The Royals may protest the result.

Would have been devastating for the South player he was simply celebrating a grand final win but those are the rules.

Agree but maybe the umpire signalled end of game raising his arms and didn't see the ball kicked away in jubilation its 50/50 , play it again next Sunday , nothing else on .

I don't know what happened at the end there. I listening to it via radio. Should it have been a free kick and a 50 to baker for the win. Wah! Controversial, if so!

Odd way in which the game finish, we will never know the precise moment that the umpire called time

I was watching as a neutral, just wanting to see a good game and thought that East Perth got an unbelievable rub of the green with the umpires 28 frees to 13, they got looked after all day by the umpires.

It wasn't the frees that East Perth received that I thought was the problem with the umpiring, rather its the ones that they missed or just didn't pay to South.

East Perth had much more of the ball but couldn't maximise their advantage in that regard.

Thought South were the better team, more efficient with the ball and in the end thats why they won
