Geelong will have to offer up a very good player in a trade.

Especially now that their first priority is securing Marshall.

He is a very important need for them going forward.

As St Neill said, we want players not picks, so their first is of no interest to us. Take their PF squad and give us one of the best ten from that.

I remember having a very fun exchange with a Crom knobhead on Twitter who was adamant we were giving up Pick 13 for Alex Keath.

When it dropped that we gave up pick 45 and an F2 for Keath and their F3 (which worked out to be 8 picks difference) the knobhead was LIVID. Accused the list manager of pure incompetence, being on the take, and should be sacked and forced to give up his pay from the previous year.

Players are "nominating" the Saints, not because they want to be based at Moorabbin, but because they're being offered life-changing $$$.
Same reason we might get Wilkie.

It's the lot of clubs like ours - overpay, or miss out.

I doubt TDK woke up each morning for the past few months or years thinking "I really want to play for St Kilda". To be an attractive option, Saints had to make him an offer he couldn't refuse, well above and beyond anything any8ne, even his current club, would feel comfortable paying.

Then on the next rung down - look at the years North offered megabucks to Dusty, Kelly, etc. Even the $$$ couldn't entice them.
