I'm not brimming with confidence but many of our players weren't right when we last played them and they showed their hand at how they intend to beat us.

We're going to show a lot more intent and energy this time and let's hope we can keep it up after our prep. for the whole game because despite the way everyone's fawned over them I believe Geelong ae a fit ,strong ,well disciplined side but they're not better than us when we put it all together.

Front on contact is not against the rules in a marking contest.

18.5.2(d) - Free Kicks - Marking Contests: A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick in a Marking contest against a Player where the Player makes contact to an opposition Player from front-on and whose sole objective is not to contest or spoil a Mark.
18.5.3 - Permitted Contact: Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player’s sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark.

Also in general play:
18.3.2(k) Free Kicks - Prohibited Contact: A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player when that Player makes any of the following Prohibited Contact with an opposition Player bumps or makes forceful contact to an opposition Player from front-on when that Player has their head down over the football.

I think all credit must go to Leathal Leigh.
Last time AFL House threw the umps under the bus (Rayner incident ) Leigh on 360 very calmly and with great wisdom provided a serve that would have resonated with everyone that over reacted.
Obviously AFL has learnt a valuable lesson, sometimes less said the better, and support your Umpires.

On the Elliot non-free, I was more nervous Harris would be pinged for deliberate straight afterward given the free we got against Hawthorn a few weeks ago. Probably more lucky in that instance than the Starcevich one tbh

I believe Harris' intention was probably to get the ball out but it was within arms reach of Fletch so I think it would be hard to argue with any authority that there was insufficient intent to keep the ball in. We don't want the AFL to expect umpires to be mind readers.

I like the theory that we wore the full maroon kit against Collingwood because it's our home kit, therefore it was a psychological move against Collingwood reminding them that the MCG has become home to us as well.

Fletch was able to catch his, albeit out of bounds.
From memory there is an angle from the Amon one where you see just how far away the Hawks player was from getting it. I thought it was a really rough call until I saw the angle from behind.*

Either way we still got our share of bad calls. To get away with one is probably fair.

There is his GOY, the soccer goal on the weekend as well as the one on the run from 50ish. But gee I worry when he has to kick to a teammate sometimes.

Some players just have that uncanny knack and instinct of knowing where the goals are.

Will Ashcroft is one. Gavin Wanganeen is another though it wasn't really showcased until he went to Port.

I’m sure he will get better, he works too hard not to. Maybe his kicking looks worse to me because of his habit to dump kick?
Obviously different positions but whenever Fletch has the ball, you’re always confident it’s going to hit its target.
