Don’t think we are in any position to draft where we are drafting for needs. Best player available every single pick and then see what we have got to fix later.
I reckon the 8 draft haul of last year makes us a bit more unique in this scenario especially given we have 2 high end picks already.

if we end up being able to get a 3rd, be in end of first or early second, I think we can definitely pick something more needs based.

Blairs moto has always been draft best available then trade for needs

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we have been linked to players like Lindsay, Sharp, Cumming, Robey, Marsh and Grlj. Nothing definitive this year as the club are playing this close to their chest, and outside of a ruckman and some outside run, there really isn't a glaring list deficiency.

So you are telling us ... that Richmond is targeting pretty much all of the players you would expect in the zone of our picks?

You sneaky thing, telling us such inside info ;)

Don’t disagree. Good argument that the wingers you have been calling for would be the best players potentially available if we had the selection in those spots.

in 2/3 years time when these kids have a few more games under their belt, we begin to show some improvement and the new facilities have been built, we are going to have 0 issue recruiting talent based on need in free agency/trade. Until then, BPA

Draft for talent, trade for need doesn't mean we would take another KPF or another pure one dimensional inside mid when it will just result in someone playing out of position and getting a low return on investment.

Sturt ran out comfortable Grand Final winners in a game they controlled from beginning to end. Jett Dahlitz was statistically dominant, finding an incredible amount of uncontested footy with West Adelaide seemingly content to fold back into a deep zone and allow Sturt to control the ball with their kick mark game. Dahlitz wasn't called upon to do a great deal of defending but was not found wanting on the few occasions he needed to commit. His kicking was the feature of his game, not always finding clean targets given how congested the Bloods made Sturt's front half, but his ability to take space with penetrating 50+ meter punchy kicks was critical in helping Sturt consistently break through for scores.

Lats time we drafted for needs we got Gibcus instead of Millera
Why stop at us?! How could North be so silly as to not take NWM at 1 when everyone was saying he'd easily be the best player in the draft!!!

You wanted Hobbs though which was the bigger miss obviously

SHould have picked up Hobbs imo Gibcus had a history of injuries coming into AFL

be seriously disappointed if we did. we do need a developing ruck with shamson closer to a rucksack than a ruckman. but we dont want some undersized hybrid forward.

CDT is a bit of a unicorn in that he can play ruck but is amazing around the ground too.

But I agree. We have plenty of players who can rotate through the ruck, but we need a dedicated number 1 ruckman this year.

It's why I wanted Dodson last year with the pick we took Sims with.

Clearly our midfield is a deficiency. North absolutely flogged us in the midfield at the end of the year and we had zero AFL listed mids in the VFL at the end of the year. Must be a priority.

MIdfield contest is not as much of a priority as speed and outside midfielders. Our mids were cooked at the end of the year, but getting Lalor, Dow, McAuliffe and Smillie back should hopefully ease some of the burden. It's our lack of class after we win a clearance or contest and a lack of speed on the spread that hampers our midfield.

what is a better outcome for Richmond one of Grlj/Cumming/XTaylor/Greaves or Oskar Taylor and NHH?

*we have already selected Robey

I assume we picked Robey already?

I’d probably go Oskar and NHH if you could guarantee it. But in reality I probably wouldn’t risk it.
