Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I wonder how it looks with the younger generation. How many kids are we getting picking Carlton on their own, without familial influence?

I think that there could be a drop off there. Though that's just supposition.
I don't know if there was - statistically speaking - any demonstrable dropoff from the 2001-2007 period from a membership perspective. My generation did our part in spite of the team's lack of success.

I don't think we'd see that statistically just yet. It'd be hitting us over the next 10 years; the time when those who could've chosen us reach a point where they could purchase a membership themselves yet when the opportunity for us to get them was there we were too shit to hook them.

Right now, those kids are still getting memberships from their parents. Wait until around 10-15 after 2014-2020, and then we'll see.

Cal Twomey reporting on Gettable we are interested in Ollie Florent. Said its not contingent on Curnow moving. Also, mentioned they have looked at Jiath but it's not certain to happen compared to some of our other targets.

Think Florent would be a shrewd acquisition if it happens. Provides run and kicking ability off the HB line but could probably also push onto a wing if needed.

Think it would be another good acquisition for us along with Chesser and Khamis. :)

Not sure if anyone can find this out but how many games have we won when both Charlie and Harry have played and how many when only one of them have played.

A couple of times I've written this. % of game wins is as follows. Harry by himself, Carlton have won 46% of those games. Harry and Charlie playing together, Carlton have won 42% of those games. Charlie by himself, Carlton have won on 38% of those games.

I recall seeing a post that claimed we won more with McKay alone. However, it's completely irrelevant, you can't infer anything meaningful from this kind of analysis. There are numerous confounding variables that need to be accounted for to determine whether we play better with one key forward or two. My intuition tells me that a proper analysis would conclude that we're significantly stronger with both of them out there.

Carlton have lost 58% of games where Harry and Charlie both played together.

Good luck selling that to the members.

You'll never please the members in these situations. Most members have a casual understanding of the intricacies of trading, drafting, team selection, and tactics IMO.

They don't think about cost or list balance. They don't think about dynamics or culture.

It's usually about who they like, and memories of when that player goes well. Curnow playing well for another club next year does not equate to Curnow playing well for us if we make him stay.

It's like when someone says we should play Player A over Player B, despite them playing different positions and having different roles in the team.

Those of us on forums like this, collect knowledge and understand nuance better than most, but we still can't agree.

You can't really cater to your base when making these decisions.

I can kind of understand the jealousy of being a star, and being locked in a long term contract, then watching on while one of your teammates becomes for a brief moment, the highest paid player in the game for no reason at all. But again, that is your dumbass manager's fault.
And a certain club for inflating the market rate for average players.

I want some in the know feedback on Charlie

What is the go? Why is he so desperate to move on?

Would love some more intel from the likes of Wickzi, Soapy V, Barrass etc

Does he see the window for success as closed?

Is it really just a lifestyle change he wants?? His brother bled blue for us and we all thought Charlie was the same...

It really seems to show a remarkable lack of resilience as to why he's giving up, Jack Silvagni exactly the same except he was a free agent. Just wimps who chose to give up as it was all too hard...

Instead they could have been part of something special the club is trying to build on and be part of instilling new culture and set of standards at the club, the same ones Cripps, Weiters and Walsh are excited to help instil in the team...
Don't need to be an ITK to see that the issue is Voss.

Thats why I was of the opinion we should be asking for King for Charlie. Assuming the want to get to Melbourne is still there.
King predominately plays as a stay-at-home forward which would be a good pairing with McKay who can also push up the ground and be a conduit, and relief ruck. Probably stay out of each others way better than Harry/Charlie do/did.

If we get a good deal for Charlie, we take it in a heartbeat. His on field performance this year has shown his lack of commitment. Hardly surprising it has now come out he approached rivals in May. He doesn’t want the responsibility of playing for a big club. Have enjoyed watching him in full flight but it’s clear he’s part of the cultural problem at the club.

The big question for me is whether anyone is actually willing to offer us a deal we consider. It won’t be Geelong - they think they can offer some spare parts and a late first and get it done. Arrogant bastards. Sydney or GC might be the ones to pull the trigger once we move past all the posturing.
