Essendon could easily end up with 4 picks in a row, 4 & 5, the Suns have to use 6 on bids, 7 comes via a trade with the Suns (which the Suns get from the Saints for Flanders, Dons use Draper Band 2 compo and their 2nds) 8 from the Hawks for Merrett.

If the Dons are keen on a player in the top 3 or 4 they could well use a couple of those picks and/or a future pick to move up the order.

We are aware. As far as I know we haven’t even spoken to him. We are known for pulling shit like this though then picking the player. Bombers love both CDT and Duursma, if they offer 5,6,7 and their F1 for 1,2 i’d pull the trigger.

If CDT is still on the board at 3,4 it will be interesting to see if you pick him.
Wishful thinking, even the Bummers aren’t that stupid.

Your Eagles board might be keen to know that, as of about a fortnight ago, the Eagles hadn’t even shown any real interest in CDT.

I was quite surprised to hear that, but it comes from a source very close to CDT.

Essendon have shown the greatest interest in him, as have the Tiges, albeit not at the level of the Bombers.
1. Duursma
2. Sharp
3. Robey
4. Offered up for trade for a later 1st and F1 with the hope it's Essendon who bite for 5 & 2nd rounder or Draper compo. Makes sense based on Twomey.

The Cultist (Twomey) would be in a apologetic fit if a future first rounder was offered!

Obviously 5 would suit us but Essendon are much more likely to offer 8 (from Merrett) plus a F2.

No chance we do that. Essendon traded a 2nd to move from 11 to 10 just 2 years ago. Maybe it's 6 instead of 5 and we slide 2 spots (knowing Essendon probably go a big bodied mid like Greeves over Grlj) but wont be 4 spots unless they give us more than a pick in the 20s.

Sorry didnt mean from Essendon. Meant another club that might look to trade up to get a pick for Petracca or Curnow or that have picks after these trades.

People keep assuming split the pick means four for pick ten and twelve

Far more likely to be a slide situation like the pick that ended up being McCauliffe where we go four for six and a pick in the twenties (this year or next year)

Brisbane traded down from 2 Taranto to 3 McCluggage and 16 Berry.
This is the exact kind of scenerio I can see benefit in. Get the player we want, and target a real needs player with a later 1st/2nd round pick.

So if Taranto = Sharp, who is our McLuggage of the 2025 draft? 🤔

I think we will.
We won’t let a talent like that slide.
That would probably mean Duursma and Sharp go to West Coast which would be a great result for them.

We get CDT and Robey.

My preference is Robey and Sharp to compete our midfield but could live with two high ceiling players that could potentially end up as matchwinners. But it’s high risk high reward.

Probably Grlj. I’d be stoked if we could pull off something similar and end up with Robey, Grlj and say Oskar Taylor

For what it's worth ..here's what I'd like ..
Use picks 3 and 4 ..take 2 of Robey, Grlj, X Taylor or Sharp ..
For me probably Robey and Grlj
( Unless Blair cooks up an insane fisting of another club )
Hopefully get a second round pick for Young ..from norf or west coast ..
Use on a slider ..there always is one or two .
And pick up Kellaway with junk picks if anyone bids on him after 40

Go home ..have a beer .. job done

Had a great chat with Scooter McNeice of the lunchtime catch up and Jep from plus six podcast last night on the draft.

It was interesting having a Essendon, Richmond and wce perspective and those two are very informed and connected with all things draft, super impressive.

We are ultimately all chasing the same type of players.

The pod should come out today for Scooter and we should have an audio file version we can release next week on it!

You'd imagine either SA clubs would give their left knacker for Dougie.
Whoever finishes last might get an offer too good to refuse.

Like WC got with Harley?

Teams will ask for the world from port and Adelaide then just decide nah we’d rather Dougie at the end of day.

Personally I want to trade pick 1 and Hawks 1R/our 2R/F2 to Essendon for picks 5 and 6.

2-Sharp
5-Cumming
6-Schubert

Duursma is quite polarising on our board, most believe he’s the best prospect but some don’t want him by (somewhat unfairly) comparing him to his brothers.

I don’t think he’s so far ahead that I wouldn’t take two top 6 picks for him and a pick in the late 1R/early 2R.

CDT is getting no love at all, I don’t think we’ll select him even if we keep picks 1 and 2.

Sharp and his strengths are very clearly the greatest list need we have, if we only had pick 1 I would take Sharp.
Whatever you decide plz take Robey.

It's got nothing to do with being clever - every club does it. We traded a pick for a North's future pick, is that being clever?

It's not some crazy absurd tactics at play. It's attepting to address multiple areas with 2 picks, rather than 1 pick.

The player you chose is statistically with a less chance, that's why you are picking 2 players - and hope that collectively they can be better, which happens regularly.

If CDT is available at 4 and someone wants to pay a premium for him (and we are fully keen), we can trade down a bit, and collect Cumming, Dovaston, Grlj and someone else for him whilst acquiring another first round pick.

There is a price for every pick. If Essendon gave us pick 5 and 6 (which they won't) you wouldn't take it because "trading down is bad"?

You started your post comparing a possible trading down our pick 4 with us trading our 2nd round pick to North.

How did that work out for North? Who actually traded their 1st round pick. Exactly my point, you shouldn't trade down your top picks because it's foolish.

2ndly we aren't getting pick 5 & 6 from Essendon so using that as an example is a waste of time and pure fantasy.

Club has 2 very high picks, it's just doesn't make sense to trade down at all.
