Geelong were heavy favourites going into the game and have been for a lot of the season

Lions had extra gears to go to when needed. No other team was going to be able to match them when it was do or die.

Well done lions goodbye cats. But, everything changes now, lions are not my go to team when hawks are out of it so next year we have to improve. I don't subscribe to the theory that it's theirs to lose. No, things change in this game and it seems too many of our supporters have fallen off us just because we lost a prelim. I still stand by the theory that we have the team to match lions around the ground. Just get Day fit, and hopefully the likes of Mackenzie and Ward improve as clearence players and we can take it up to them. Lewis and Dear will trouble them as well.
But, the Trac is a must imo. Just have that big bodied stopagge expert in there to give Newk and Nash a chop out so that Day, Mackenzie and Ward can play the inside receiver roles.

A great win by Brisbane. Clearly the most talented team in the league. And mature. Must be easy for Fagan to coach such a bunch of serious and focused young professional men. Hawks can learn a lot from Brisbane and this game. I said after the prelim that Geelong is not a better team than Hawthorn and I think today proves it. And the teams (or club's) problem is not just lack of midfield. Mitchell needs to work hard on improving on field leadership and dealing with pressure and when things aren't going your way. We could easily have been playing today. The way Mitchell and team let Dangerfield do as he pleased last week...35 years old.

Surely some good players will get squeezed out knowing that they are getting pushed back the pecking order?

I know people think Cooper Hodge is odds on to choose them, but he may look at Brisbane as an impossible side to break into and impossible to get to with other academy bids they have to match.

So if we can commit to matching a higher bid for him, and have a clearer path to regular snr footy he will need to consider that.

It’s all about depth in the midfield.
Geelong’s one wood is their 1,2,3 punch of Danger, Smith and Holmes. The rest are the support act. When one struggles, they are paper thin.
It was good enough to beat us. Those three smashed us.
Come up against a side with real midfield depth, like Brisbane, and they struggle. They can’t rotate a star midfielder into the mix, because they only have three.
That should be our learning from today.

Spot on buzz hawk. Hate to say it but guess what position most of their upcoming academy stars play? We desperately need some class in our midfield to compete.

Haven't followed thread, but how do we beat them? I agree, I think we can, with some improvement in the midfield by whatever means, + Maginness, hard tag, Ashcroft ... if he can hold Butters, then he''s key come finals time.
