Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

So a Hayward type would be appealing to you? For me he's one of the better mid-sized forwards in the AFL.
So after we pursued him for a whole year he said no and signed a 6 year deal what makes us think that not even a year later he would change his mind and say yes? He’s contracted and doesn’t want to leave Sydney.

Btw I’m not having a go at you carlton_99 im just saying the idea of Hayward being part of the deal. He already said no to us and he’s not good enough to be part of the trade when we have specified wanting top line players.

It was purely hypothetical as his name has been brought up. I have no idea if he is interested.

Not really a "rumor" per se but just reporting something that Cripps said at a function I attended last night that I thought was interesting.

He was asked about the captaincy and said that he'd probably have it for another year or two since there's a belief that nobody else is quite ready yet.

Said when the time comes it would likely go to Walshy, since both him and Weiters set a great example but Walshy is more of a people-person. He said the way Walsh relates to and communicates with people is great, whereas Weiters "just hates people" (said in a joking way, to much laughter.)

However the most interesting part was that he volunteered (without specifically being asked) that after Walshy the next Captain would be Jagga Smith. This was met by surprise even by the MC, since he hasn't even played a game yet. Cripps was surprisingly adamant and just said that when you're a leader you can instantly see when it exists in spades in others, and Jagga has it.

Close plays the pressure forward role better than anyone on our list, kicks goals and gets up and down the ground with no issue - imagine Fogarty but really good

Confucius say man who imagine Fogarty but really good no longer imagine Fogarty

Did people watch the game today and think, another key forward is what either team needed? All I could think today was, we desperately need a few players like Lohman, Rayner, Ah Chee, Close, Myers, Stengle, more than we need Charlie.
We need to get EH back on course…

Paired with Frank (and maybe ZW can be consistently brilliant), Carlos + Kempy for a forwardline around H.

Free Agency has run its course IMO. Every player is technically a free agent. Players wanting out and asking for trade always get to choose where they want to go, contracted or not. Scrap free agency altogether. Let’s clubs trade for the player they want. None of this getting players for free business and then compensation which affects every club.
The death knell for FA is the fact Carlton may benefit this year.

I'm surprised it wasn't killed off when the tdk offer became public.

Issue is can't see how Charlie gets us one atm. None of the teams linked really have any they'd be willing to let go. Humphrey would be our best best but seems Suns aren't letting him go. And even across the competition it doesn't seem like a heap are moving clubs.

Hayward can play tall but he is also pretty good at ground level. Might be our most realistic option.
way too early to say any team is not letting anyone go....

Love that snippet.

Not invested in Jagga over others as a potential leader, but I am thrilled to hear we have a NATURAL leader in our midst. Aspects of leadership can be learned or enhanced, but the intangibles cannot. Crippa is a decent leader, but is more learned than natural in my opinion. We need more instinct over education on the list. There is a place for the dedicated, good soldier types, even a need, but natural empathy and instinct is on another level.

Also considering he's good mates and business partner with Florent whom we're already linked to.
And also those two have the same management as Curnow and it's not hard to see a smoother passage

Couldn't agree more. Being the most influential player and inspiring others is his forte and he is incredible at it but that doesn't work on all people, some people need to be convinced in other ways, emotionally, intellectually, by challenge etc.

Been a few reports saying it will likely require a third club to get involved for the Charlie trade to work, wonder if Hayward says no, would we try get two firsts from Sydney and Gruzewski from GWS. Not sure if that would appease us or not however.

Have we decided to keep EH? Last I heard we wanted him to find another club. Are we thinking we will keep him now? How disruptive has he been and is it untenable enough to cut him loose based on breach of contract?

You'd want a better player than Gruzewski. He should be a target for a later trade.

IMO the benchmark is P2 and F1 from WCE.
Sydney's two firsts is roughly = P2
Gruzewski is a way short of F1 value

Asked to look elsewhere with others saying that it’s a payout looming if nothing is found.

He’s the type of player we desperately need and have on our list, though sounds like not the person we may not so want. If it’s the goodies, straighten him up FFS with support (EH needs to own it too).

This.

Surely we can't just throw Elijah in the trash. Surely there is a way to work through these issues with him. We don't know much about what's happened but jeez some players from other clubs have done some cooked stuffed and been supported through it. Why can't we have that culture? As long as he hasn't harmed someone.
