He's not protected on here. It's just that others appreciate the other aspects of his game, which some on here seem to ignore or brush over.
Not brushing over his hardness and tackling at all …just weighing it up against the weaknesses
Just tips the scale too far for me

Long is very good at getting the ball and pressuring the opposition ball carrier
He’s just not very good at delivering the ball when he gets it and making the correct decisions when he has it

Don't think hill is going anywhere, we would have known by now if he wants out.

The only scenario where hill moves is if the club asks him to consider his options, don't think I see that happening, unless they have a line on a big fish.

For example, you mentioned trading Houston.
He’s just had his worst season.

We would get far below what he is worth.

How is that a sound decision?
Anyone suggesting we trade Houston must be on drugs...or heat!!!
We've had him for one season FFS. We've seen what he is capable of. I'm speechless...more or less..I'm without speech....I don't know what to say.... I have no words....I'm....I'm....I'm just........SPEECHLESS

Its hard to now how legit the blight one is, given its a fan account.

Last year it felt like we had nothing to bargain after giving up a more valuable then expected future 1st for Schultz.

Somehow we landed Houston. Not been the player we expected but he’ll be better next year. I’m confident of that.

Anyway, wondering what rabbit out of a hat we might pull off this season!

I just take it as a Rumor on Social Media and nothing more until/IF we get a Proper Report/

That why I put it as a Rumor on Social Media

I've seen glimpes. Fly knows how to train guys to correct their kicking.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't this the first full season that Long has played?
He'll only get better with every pre season.
correct. He had never played more than 5 games in a row before this year

Agree with first two points but not sure about the latter two. Doesn't take Smith time to adjust to Cats. Or Cameron or Dangerfield. Ditto May and lever to Melbourne and many other examples of players hitting ground running at new club. His disposal was mostly anything but beautiful this year too. Has class and hopefully comes good though.

Yet people here are crapping on about getting may or petracca or some other ludicrous idea.
So just keep it as is and go with the list as is
Who does? Don't just passive aggressive that "people here"

Unlike many, I see 2026 as a reset year.
- Maybe we'll challenge for the flag but that improvement needs to come from our 1st-4th year players (and positional changes for Houston / Perryman)

We need to find out exactly what we have.

We then need to go hard at the end of 26+27
- Draft / trade / FA

I'm a big believer in bringing a mid (or perhaps Pickett if he slides) this year in the 20s before we grab our NGAs
- Kerr hopefully as a rookie

We can contend again soon but you don't though the baby out with the bathwater - it's a recipe for going backwards

They’ll be trying many things. Sometimes the impact of a player is larger than the player. The draft is average and our FS/ NGA are not highly rated. May our moves be very good.

I'm starting to think there just aren't any interesting targets left that's worth pursuing this year.

Rather than spend a F1 on whoever suddenly becomes available this year, we'd be better off keeping the F1 and giving us much more optionality next year. If this supposed "cliff" does come, we've hedged by keeping our first rounder which could suddenly become an interesting top pick to take to the draft before Tassie comes in.

Alternatively, if we are still in contention and can attract a Butters type to commit to us next year, keeping our F1 and the option to trade 2027 F1 gives us a much better trading hand if we're forced to trade a matched FA bid.

May, Buller and Blight this year for cheap is enough to address a key area of need for us (KPP) where we can still improve the list. The key is to finally trust and expose our young talent to opportunities in the seniors next year.

COLLINGWOOD

Players that could leave

Even before their preliminary final exit, a lot has been going on behind the scenes with contracts at Collingwood. Veteran forward duo Brody Mihocek and Jamie Elliott are still yet to re-sign, and with every day that goes by, it feels increasingly likely they will join Melbourne and Gold Coast respectively. It’s understood each has been offered a three-year deal that would pry them out of Collingwood, and leave a noticeable void in their attacking half. Another veteran duo in Tom Mitchell and Mason Cox have also been told to explore their options outside of the Magpies, with no guarantee either will be kept on for the 2026 season. Their recommendation comes after a quartet of Pies were delisted in the wake of their season-ending loss to premiers Brisbane. Uncertainty surrounds the future of Bobby Hill, after a lack of continuity in the second half of the year saw him play just one of their last 11 matches. Beau McCreery and Ed Allan have previously been linked to interstate clubs, but both look set to go around again for the black and white.

Players who could arrive

Almost surprisingly, there really aren’t many links to Collingwood this off-season. Fringe Sydney forward Jack Buller would be a welcome recruit should a deal be struck between the Swans and Pies, but beyond that, it’s somewhat of a mystery. A ready-made key defender would be welcome given how deep into the premiership window they are, meaning a play for Steven May or Callum Wilkie shouldn’t be ruled out just yet. Beefing up their on-ball brigade also wouldn’t go astray to further support Nick Daicos, but given the established links Christian Petracca and Zach Merrett have with other clubs, there is no obvious answer. A Will Setterfield-type player may be worth a look, and wouldn’t cost much in trade capital given he remains out-of-contract.

Who’s already gone

Will Hoskin-Elliott (retired), Oleg Markov, Ash Johnson, Finlay Macrae, Charlie Dean

Draft picks

34, 52, 64, 70

This is exactly what we should be doing

I'd love to be able to move this pick ahead but I don't know if other clubs would be willing or what capital it would cost
I imagine we'll be trying to acquire more points for a potential late 1st bid for mccarthy. Only our 1st two picks have points attached.

How do turnover prone mids improve us?
We don't need improvement in the midfield cause according to you ours is better than Brisbane;s 😆👍

The difference is the heavy tag, the whole opposition team gets into Naicos and he still performs, what does the other one get? Nada!
The way he gets held at stoppage before the ball is in play and its hardly ever called infuriates me. Kane tried a gotcha on Bucks one day on SEN saying Nick is umpired differently (trying to insinuate cheap frees) and Bucks was like absolutely he is (saying how he cops it and doesnt get rewarded like others do).
It was the same for Binnivan when he played for us - hes a cheat and a ducker. It was open season, too high didnt exist. Its mind blowing the contrast in how he is umpired at the Dawks.

Second year well work out how to use him better and get him back to his peak, if not beyond it.
